As opposed to being a WEEK late with the Rachael Nichols casting. At this rate, we should get confirmation from AICN that Zachary Quinto is playing Spock on the eve of the premiere. Sheesh.

I just don't get the idea of not having the Shat in it. He is so much more Star Trek than Nimoy is, and, while I love them both, you should have them both.

"Would someone go to that site, and suggest to those people there, that "City" and all its elements EXCEPT specific Star Trek characters, belong to Harlan Ellison-author of that much-lauded episode-by terms of the Separation of Rights clause of the Writers Guild's Minimum Basic Agreement (MBA), and if Mr. Abrams-with whom I'm currently on strike-or anyone else, at Paramount or elsewhere, thinks they're going to use MY creations-whether the City, the Guardians, Sister Edith Keeler, or any other elements CREATED BY HARLAN ELLISON...they had damned well better lose the unilateral arrogance, get in touch with me, or my agent, Marty Shapiro, and be prepared to pay for the privilege of mining the lode I own."

A cast of nothing but models and various "pretty" people, with a reported plot that is as dusty as James Doohan. Oh yeah...this is shaping up to be pure shit. They should let the Trek bones lay with whatever dignity is left to them after the twisted, canon mangling, logic defying crap that was the last series and movie. So far, if not for the money involved, this has the smell of straight to DVD all over it.

He's just protesting and denying too much. I'm fairly certain it'll turn out he is in it, and they're denying it to try to make surprise people, in this age when the internet spoils any and all surprises a film might offer.

She is absolutely the worst sort of TV actress: colorless, no personality, annoying and whiny. I dub them "Waitresses," because they're like all the stupid women I worked with when I was a chef. This ST is sounding worse and worse; I hope this broad's role ends up on the cutting room floor.

The marketing "masterminds" are trying to build buzz.

Couldn't James Tubbyrius Kirk have an earlier--thinner--version of himself taken from the transporter pattern buffer?

I keep forgetting Kirk is dead. Is that still in continuity?

Kirk is kinda of dead
by Orionsangels

Since time doesn't exist in the Nexus. Meaning you can go to anytime inside the Nexus. Technically entering the Nexus. You could go to the time before Kirk and Picard fight malcolm mcdowell on that bridge and change history by saving Kirk. Then you and Kirk somehow leave the Nexus.
The gods help y'all trying to sort out...
by DarkHawke
Nov 14th, 2007

...continuity vis a vis the Berman/Braga fucked-up-the-ass Trek and anything involved with it. Yes, they totally blew off continuity with Scotty's comments about who'd come to save him in "Relics" when by "Generations" he pretty much knew Kirk had bought it. And as far as that pathetic debacle known as "Star Trek: Generations," by all the "logic" put forward therein about this "Nexus" thing, then nothing that happened after Picard entered it actually took place in the "real" universe, including DS9 seasons 4-7 since they involved a live Worf!

Think about it: what are the two most defining aspects of the Nexus? A, that it gives you everything you'd ever wanted and B, there's thus no way you'd ever leave. So where's the logic in not one, but TWO people finding neither of these aspects to be true, i.e. both Picard AND Kirk? Isn't it a much more reasonable concept, working within the framework set up by the movie, that what Picard REALLY wanted was to save the day and prevent the bad guy from winning? So the Nexus gave him exactly what he wanted: the ability to leave it with someone whom he admired and could help, and provided him with a win-able scenario. So in "reality," good ol' Jean-Luc goes off to have what he really wants in the Nexus, to continue to captain a ship named Enterprise, and Jimmy T. is still in there as well, enjoying his own perfect life, captaining his own Enterprise and having great adventures himself. However, in the real world outside the Nexus, the sun went nova, nuking its solar system, the remainder of Enterprise-D and its crew, being as it crash-landed on the planet from which Dr. Soran launched his Nexus-attracting, nuke-the-sun missile (oh, and he made it into the Nexus as well; yes, the bad guy actually won this time).

So if you're REALLY being a continuity/logic geek, technically, the remaining Next Gen movies, DS9 seasons 4-7 and maybe even some of Voyager never really happened, because they all involved known dead people, i.e. the former crew of Enterprise-D. Yes, I know that *actually* ALL of this is fiction, but I'm speaking within the framework of the movie and reasoning it out as best as I can given the facts presented. Not that the actual writers gave a brother any help. I can only assume Braga went over the script AFTER Moore knocked it out, 'cause the same man that gave us the great remake of Galactica, which hangs together remarkably well, couldn't have been solely responsible for that hash of a screenplay!

Anyhow, that's why I largely ignore all this Next Gen/Berman-Braga crap. I cut the Original Star Trek some slack for being a pioneer in its time and having to write for a less sophisticated audience. These latter-day incompetents have no such excuses or justifications available to them. They just sucked and thank the GODS that they're no longer in control. I'm not exactly jazzed about what I hear from the J.J. Abrams production, but in this case, better the devil I DON'T know!

Morrison Playing Nurse Chapel Maybe?
by jorson28
Nov 15th, 2007
02:22:49 PM
I don't know if someone else on this board has suggested this already, but Morrison could be playing Nurse Chapel. Chapel was a recurring character in the original series and was in the 1979 movie, though she's the only one that I haven't seen or heard mentioned in news reports, strange considering that the role was played by Gene Roddenberry's wife Majel Barrett. Maybe I just overlooked it, but if the character has been mentioned as being included, I can't find reference. In any case, I'd be surprised if the character is NOT in the new movie considering the number of other more obscure TOS characters which are included (Spock's mother, Capt. Pike) and if she is a character in the new movie, it seems that her casting would be news.
