As for Lost, I think 14 of 16 are already written, which means we should see it assuming the producers and actors in Hawaii feel like fulfilling their contractual obligations (unlike the ones in LA).

As for this season's new shows, I'll only really miss Journeyman, Life, and Reaper. I hope those can survive the strike.

All such disagreements over collectivism aside, there do seem to be legitimate reasons to renegotiate the writers' contracts. I'm quite sure that Hollywood and its infamous accounting schemes have bent more than a few writers over a barrell, and I hope the guild gets at least most of what they are striking for. There does, however, need to be one stipulation: scripted television shows, such as 24, Prison Break, and Desperate Housewives, need to have all their scripts ready FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON and not written on the fly. Then again, this strike is not about quality production, but rather quality RETURNS, isn't it?

Finally, "Alen Smithee," I must confess that I'm sick and tired of internet rambos, such as yourself, who threaten others when they disagree with you (a common problem among unions). And when you are attempting to get someone to write their normal name on the internet for all to see, you damn well know you are doing this so that they will be threatened or have their identity tampered with. You are the coward here, not that person hiding behind anonymity. By the way, when next you want someone to post their real name, try not using the fictional guild name "alen smithee" as your ID. It is because of disgusting little leg-breaking bullies like you that I, and many other realistic human beings, remain intolerant, annoyed, and frankly BORED, by unions and their overly egotistical supporters and thuggish bosses.

No, I'll thank Henry Ford for that. Unions were fighting for it before him and a handful of companies won it for themselves, but Ford set the trend. He realized that nobody could buy his cars if people didn't have the money or the time to do it. So he doubled his employees pay and shortened their workday. Before that companies only gave that up with a fight. After him, they realized that the productivity gains were worth it. I actually suspect that you'd see even higher productivity from a 6 hour work day. It wasn't about the workers any more than abolishing slavery was about the slaves. It's about getting the most bang for your buck.

As for 24, they should just cancel it. It's had a long run, skipping a year is just stupid. And why skip a year anyway? Why not just postpone everything? Who cares if the season slips into the summer (never understood why they take it off in the first place the lazy fucks)? These studios are really shooting themselves in the foot lately. Getting me out of the habit of watching TV may in fact be good for me, but dealers should never let their addicts find a rehab. Certainly not in this digital age. All companies seem unable to realize that the internet will have a far greater impact than even the printing press did.

As for anyone who feels that I'm unfamiliar with unions, believe me, I've had more than my fair share of experience with the AAUP, thank you very much.
