I frickin' adore High Noon, but I've noticed that even among my film-dork buddies, it's not nearly as well known as a lot of other classics of the era. I've shown it to a TON of people who I would have assumed had already seen it. So maybe, MAYBE this could be a case where a re-make helps to revive awareness of the original. And, in the current American political climate, they might have something to exploit thematically that would give the story some of the same relevance it had in 1952. Maybe.
They should do "Death Rides a Horse" next!

Why did the recent news about Ted Eliot and Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) doing the Lone Ranger flick not make it here, I wonder?
I'm not interested in a High Noon remake, but...

The story is that a sheriff sees a threat that the rest of the community wants to avoid. The sheriff, denied the support of his community by cowards and nay-sayers, bravely fights alone. The subtext would be W fighting the terrorists. Obviously this movie cannot be made at this time.

but regardless, IS NOTHING SACRED IN HOLLYWOOD? This isn't a cheesy B-movie that needs an update. It is one of the greatest films ever made! DAMN YOU HOLLYWOOD. Creativity is dead.
Its already been remade along with a sequel!

Micahel Madsen played Frank Miller in the 2000 remake for tv. Before that, Lee Majors was in the sequel in Gary Cooper's part! Where the hell's the originality anymore?

There was an homage to the original in an episode of "Head of the Class" where Arvid faces a challenge from a bully.
"Miami Vice" too.

yeah, Uncapie, I'm surprised no one mentioned that a lot sooner. That's only 7 years old. sure it was a tv movie, the the simplicity of that story doesn't require a huge budget
