Jackson's producing Dam Busters. Not directing. People seem to get these confused on this website.

That's a great suggestion, dye his hair and he is Tintin. Between PJ working with him before and Spielberg's friendship with daddy Hanks he'd be an easy bag. Good thinking Carlos

isn't Tintin like freakin Garfield except on TV and not as cynical? People are excited about this? A god damned show about a guy and his dog? SHIT! I'd much rather see the further adventures of Wallace and Grommit any day and twice on Sunday than god damn Tintin. Maybe it's just me...

flick, to show Hollywood execs he can direct a feature length movie. I recall that being one of the reasons Halo never took off. Maybe this is just the way to open doors. Remember the Wachowski brothers had to do "Bound" before anyone would let them make the Matrix.

Code names have been used before and if anyone thinks that the Halo movie will never happen then they might want to re-evaluate the gross that Halo 3 has made so far. Hollywood loves money, they might not have an eye for much of anything good or new, but they still loves the money and it will eventually happen. When it does, I can think of nobody better than Blomkamp and Jackson and I think the live action shorts are more than enough proof of what they could do. Watch the combined shorts in 'Landfall' and get back to me.

Avatar is going to be awesome. I love Cameron. Wait, you did mean that one and not the air bender, M. Night one right?

...then I'm optomistic that Neill will do alright.

Tintin was the best "A boy and his dog solving mysteries" comic that I can remember reading as a kid. It was part Indiana Jones, part Scooby-doo (if only for the personified dog, but not half as goofy), part Hardy Boys, and part Huckleberry Fin.

An ensemble supporting cast of quirky reoccurring characters gave it an odd Tim Burton/David Lynch meets Archie comics feel. Smart, but way fun for kids.

I wonder when we'll see an Asterix movie?

Not to hijack the thread, but whatever happened to the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers movie?

"District 9" my ass! All signs point to this being Halo. After the sales numbers of Halo 3, I don't buy that they can't get this movie made. That said, I'd be happy to be wrong. Blomkamp's Halo shorts were ridiculous, I hope that the eventual Halo movie is nothing like those.

I thought the Alive/Joburg (or whatever it was called) short was unimpressive. It was basically a showcase for effects and featured little storytelling ability. Certainly, it isn't reason for anyone to believe he can make a feature which needs storytelling ability and actually acting. He needs to be able to communicate with actors. Has he proven either of these skills? I know he's made other shorts and commercials (which I haven't seen), but I don't have any faith in this guy. "Style" alone doesn't make you a good director. Zach Snyder, Michael Bay, and David Slade all are very stylish directors. Unfortunately, none of them can create believeable characters or compelling stories.

He did this other short that is more narrative than his other work. I can't think of the name but it had Linda Carter in it and a few other people who had speaking parts. He seemed to have directed it fairly well but I agree his body of work as a whole doesn't build confidence. But then again, David Fincher directed commercials and music videos and gave us Se7en. All I know is that the guy is friggin' talented so I'll reserve judgement until I actually have something to judge.

while I enjoyed the games I felt that the story was nothing more than a weak backbone to give you an excuse to shoot. The characters were very poor especially. Now a Half-Life movie I would understand; far better characters and story line.

I'm very, very happy Jackson and Blomkamp won't be making "Halo". I generally abhor video game movies so I'm excited to read Blomkamp will direct an orginal story from a... gulp... original screenplay.

Heathen, you said: "If anyone thinks that the Halo movie will never happen then they might want to re-evaluate the gross that Halo 3 has made so far. Hollywood loves money, they might not have an eye for much of anything good or new, but they still loves the money and it will eventually happen."

Except that's EXACTLY the problem. Hollywood DOES love its money -- which is exactly WHY the Halo deal imploded. Because Microsoft and Bungie were demanding too big of a piece of the pie upfront AND on the backend, to the point that even when Halo was going to be a two studio co-production to help offset costs they BOTH still walked away from the table, basically willing to tell Bill Gates, Microsoft, Bungie, Jackson et al "Screw it. It may be a big game, but there's no way you're making this economically feasible for us."

So frankly its BECAUSE of it's gross to date that a Halo movie hasn't happened. And after the zillions that HALO 3 raked in, you can bet that right now Microsoft and Bungie are still willing to hold firm on what they want, even though that only forces Hollywood to stand by its guns as well.

Alfonso Cuaron needs to direct the movie based on Half-Life 2. If it ever happens, he would be absolutely perfect. I just couldn't shake the feeling while watching Children Of Men, how amazing it would be.
