D"TR"J is 35 now. Patrick Warburton is 43, and by any standard would be perfect as the classic, squinty-eyes version of CM. Hope that counts for something. It's nice they're not skewing young on this, like that JLA "experiment."

In fact, it is hard to think up someone as good for the role. He has the charisma and humor to pull it off. Patrick Warburton is the only name that springs to mind. There is a certain amount of cheese to this title and the movie shouldn't shy away from it. It should be a Pixar-feeling movie.

Jon Hamm hyping = Be very afraid JL fans
by Live.
Nov 2nd, 2007
06:23:28 AM
For an obscure name from a little watched cable show, he sure does get pimped a lot here in any JL talkback. Either his PR reps are working overtime hyping his name in connection with a hot project to raise his profile, or WB has already hired him, since the price was right, and are getting cold feet. Thus necessitating WB pr flacks to raise his profile and soften the public up to the idea. "HE WAS ANOINTED BY POPULAR ACCLAIM!" Only the populous still has no idea who he is.

Genuine fanboy favorites get their name tossed at every movie. Green Lantern? "Nathan Fillion"; Star Trek? "Nathan Fillion"; Julia Childs? "Nathan Fillion"
But Hamm's name only seems to pepper JL talkbacks. Odd un-fannish behavior. Things that make you go "Hmm.."

Don't go fkn raising that damn eyebrow..

The problem with this is...if you are doing a couple of films in a row, is that the kid you cast as Billy Batson will end up outgrowing the role. Agree with the above that The Rock is perfect as Black Adam. And normally I don't agree with most Talkback casting suggestions, but I can absolutely picture Patrick Warburton in the role. Especially if this is going to be a family superhero movie, skew a little older with the Captain Marvel role, and then use Freddy Freeman/Mary Marvel as teenagers in the following films as the audience gets older.

No way I am going there to that brainless shit. I wonder why Rock did not come here since we are better than they are. But at least it seems they got the right answer for Rock. I would have liked to have seen a dual role for Marvel/Adam to see Rock's acting chops really put to the test. It worked for Jet Li.

was good casting why? because he was bald? I'm not saying he didn't do a fine job in the role but I don't remember any references to tha Prof. being English in the comics. He certainly didn't have a pointy mishapen head like Stewart. About as good as casting Halle Barry as Storm cuz she was black.

He's got a great look and voice for Black Adam. Patrick Warburton could be fun for Captain Marvel, but I'd also throw in Brendon Fraser. Slick his hair back and he's a big enough guy to really look the part, and he can play that little kid in the body of an adult stuff in a believable way. I also think it'd be easier to find a kid that is believable as turning into Fraser than Warburton. His work on Scrubs had that childlike quality that was charming and fun but not over-the-top. He's definitely got the chops when he's being well-directed.

Would be perfect as Captain Marvel. If it is true that they are going for a similar tone as The Incredibles, this movie (with the right director) could really be great. You mean there's a famous movie with Brendon Fraser and the Rock that wasn't very good? Wow, you're right! We should judge every future project either is in based on that movie! Monkeybone and Loony Tunes: Back in Action sucked too, so that means Fraser should never be cast in anything again. Oh, and Dwayne was in that babysitter thing and that Football movie where he's got a little girl. LAME! And DOOM tanked, so he should never work in Hollywood again. Many actors have done a crappy movie before, but a lot more of that than gets credit comes down to direction and writing. Both actors have done better movies than the ones mentioned, and I could see them doing great stuff with Captain Marvel and Black Adam. I don't think Fraser would be cast for it, but I also think there are some issues with casting Warburton, so I put it out there.
Fuck this. Dwayne SHOULD be Superman.

Along with such casting, reflecting the style and color of "THE INCREDIBLES" ...while going with live action mixed with motion capture and cgi, realized in that "300" kind of way, ...yeah, that's the way to go. This picture sounds like a hoot, if they would only go in that direction. It could very well be the "funnest" movie going experience of it's year. Keep your fingers crossed, my fellow geeks.

The Rovk looks nothing like Superman, other than being huge and having dark (though badly balding) hair. Plus his annoying smirk and audience recognition would ruin any portrayal he did of the character.

He IS, however, PERFECT for Black Adam. He'll make a fantastic "bad" guy and is a spot-on copy.

Yes, now that the Rock has confirmed what we knew all along, it's time to cast the big red cheese.... BRANDON MOLALE. He was born to play this part and it WILL be his breakout role. He was hilarious in Mr. Deeds as the a** hole Jets quarterback, now like what Brandon Routh did for Superman, Molale will do for Captain Marvel. Give Brandon the role. I can only imagine what Adam Carolla would think of all this. Grown men (allegedly), discussing the merits of casting a former pro wrestler in a movie based on a comic book character. He didn't have kind words to say on his radio show about his friends when they argued over the Silver Surfer's film appearance this past summer. To Adam, I say, "Phooey!" We won't pick on him about his sports and cars and stuff, and he can leave us alone with our comics and movies and stuff. It's all good. And equally MANLY.

who gives a shit about this news. Shazam sucks anyway, so does the Rock. So funny that people never want anything to be to "kiddie" who the fuck do you think superheroes are for? What if superheroes weren't "kiddie" when you were a kid, you'd be even more fucked up than you are now, I think we actually need less violence in movies and comic books I like the old days, so sick of Hollywood trying to please you, get a life, go watch a real film and try to go back to superheroes, I guess Harry can, since it makes him so much money

...and the one that he was actually perfectly suited to, despite advice to the contrary, even by a certain aicn staffer. Fact is, he's perfect for Black Adam, he wasn't for Captain Marvel. And if the script is well written, then Black Adam is a better and more complex role for him to set his teeth into anyhow, not to mention one that allows him to show a different side on screen. I wish him nothing but good luck with it.

Black Adam. I'm not sure who could play captain marvel though, but I do have some comments. To the guy who says that Rocky can't play a villian, what are you smoking. The Rock was one of best heels in wrestling, the type of bad guy thats entertaining. Also to the guy that says superheroes are for kids he must be a crackhead and has probably never picked up a comic recently. The vast majority who think like this don't even realize most of the popular elements in cinema and tv today are ripped right from the comics page and can't give respect to a medium that requires you to actually read instead of letting the characters connect the dos for you and to the one guy who asked he already dropped "The Rock" from his name.

The "nay" I proclaimed wasn't over The Rock IN the SNL skit; it was over how right he would be AS Superman, exhibit "A" being how he looked in that skit. Even more so as Clark Kent. Now, from the neck down, Mr. Johnson would be right to play any number of superheroes. From the neck up, not so much. Especially one as recognizable as Superman. I will grant you that the SNL SOP is to slap things together quickly, so it's not like Duane had lots of time to get into proper attire, hair, and makeup. Even taking that into consideration, it was pretty obvious that he would never be a good choice to play Superman. Not unless and until we first have at least a decade's worth of comics with the character drawn to resemble Mr. Johnson to set a precedent. That's what I'm talkin' about.
And what I'm talkin' about...
by Shermdawg
Nov 4th, 2007
05:24:52 PM
Is Dwayne doesn't need to "look" like Superman, to be Superman. What IS needed however, is a modern Supes. And Johnson has the right look for the role. The curley-q hairdo, the underwear over spandex outfit, the same hue of blue and red, are all trivial. What matters most is the man, and the characterization.
ALSO...

"Not unless and until we first have at least a decade's worth of comics with the character drawn to resemble Mr. Johnson to set a precedent."

Um, are you forgetting the black leather outfits from the X-flicks? They weren't used in the funny book pages until Singer used them. Hollywood doesn't need to wait around on DC for anything. And even after that, there's no reason to transform the comic Supes into Johnson's image, because they are seperate entities. There would be no reason to do so anyways, given the ultra small reader base of comics nowadays, and those who follow them aren't gonna get confused.
