And every week, they open a mysterious crate that leads them on a pursuit to uncover the truth that causes them to be chased by unmarked black helicopters.

Still, Rock O'Bannon has enough cred in the bank after FARSCAPE to make the first episode worth my valuable time. Don't let me down, Rock.

Rockne O'Bannon and Jane Espenson. Farscape and two thirds of the Whedon trinity. (Did not she not write anything for Angel.) Kind of sounds like Eureka/The Chronicle territory. I expect we can count on a clever/cute factor from Lady Jane and O'B 1's got a solid recod for mixing human drama and scifi(Check Alien Nation out too). And some sharp dialogue and characterization besides. Now tell me Ben and Claudia are the agents in question and I'm so F'n there.

If they make both FBI agents female it could be a hit. If only someone could do more with Ward 13. That should be a show/tv movie.

This is the most derivative show EVER! A mash up of X-FILES, RAIDERS, AREA 51 (an unsold pilot from the same studio), NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM and MOONLIGHTING. I love how the article describes EUREKA as a "hit," just because somebody has actually watched it. I'm tired of all this unoriginality. One thing's for sure, based on the names involved... it won't be funny. Not a decent comic mind in the bunch.

Sounds like Doug Tenapel's book Creature Tech ...sorta. It's about a scientist put in charge of a government warehouse that stores mysterious objects (alien artifacts, anachronistic items, mystic relics, etc.). Oh and there is the ghost of a mad scientist, his demonic house cat, and a weird alien dimension Christ. Tenapel had originally sold the story as a screen play, but the deal fell apart and he just published it as a book.
why do you assume it's Mulder and Scully?

Wow! Each week a new artifact, escaped soul etc. with it's own new story to tell. Although some of these shows are at times interesting they rarely rise above average. And the bickering partners? Whether it's M & S or Brokeback.....snore!

It's great that you all are bitching because this MIGHT be a X-Files rip off by ripping off the people bitching about it being an X-Files rip off. Or ripping off other talkbacks so you can seem cute and clever. This is Jane Espenson people. She has yet to go wrong. Outside of Marti Noxin the Buffy writers are all top notch. I can't wait!

Low budget all the way.. Rent some warehouse up in Canada and turn it into a sound stage. Fill it full of crates and junk from whoever sells all that crap they put on the walls at Applebee's and Joe's Crab Shack.

Hire a couple of no name actors to star, mix in the lowest budget effects money can buy and presto! A classic Sci-Fi channel original series!

Of course you never know, they may actually create the next BSG or Farscape.. accidents can happen.

Farscape was probably the best sci-fi show of all time (maybe neck and neck with B5), but this has suck written all over it. I don't think Hollywood has ever been so committed to recycling old shit as they are now. I keep hearing about this writers strike coming up. I think they should just fire all the writers and rehire non-union ones. It's not like 95% of them could manage the basics of their jobs in the first place. And what really amazes me is that people like us are the target audience here. If a bunch of geeks from AICN aren't gonna watch your show, then what makes them think they're gonna pull away the American Idol crowd. They still have time not to air it, but they're going to go ahead and waste the money anyway. It's like buying stock, without doing market research. It's flimsier than gambling, as business models go.

But I guess if everyone else is recycling things they should be able to as well. In fact, this almost sounds like a joke made up by writers: let's pitch a total X-Files retread/rip-off and see who bites - after all, that series has been off the air for five years, and probably no one remembers it anyway! Heh. I hope the pilot sells, and I hope they rip off as many X-F episodes as possible

Copying/Combining ideas and Rebooting

is fine. Just about everything we see on TV is a copy, combination of, reboot or variation of something else. It's the quality that matters. I'd much rather see a well written, well executed series about Mulder and Scully knock-offs stuck over the last few seasons of the "real" X-Files. Espenson and O'Bannon are a darn good, credible, proven bunch to launch a new series. The SciFi channel has stumbled around, made some real bad/stupid decisions, and created some horrible stuff, but they're also responsible for BSG and Far Scape so there's always hope something just is good is going to be next.

i thought it was dan o'bannon too. WE NEED SOME SCIFI FROM DAN O'BANNON TO SAVE US NOW! this news has insulted my intelligence. there are at least a dozen different comics, video games, other movies and tv shows with this very premise. btw fuck scifi channel for creating this crap, but watch odyssey 5 every friday night because that show is beyond awesome.
