This looks exactly like that lame-ass second Rambo movie. Look: First Blood is a classic. It worked because everything clicked. The more and more I look back, the more I realize that the '80s were the height of action movies and nothing else has come close since: First Blood, Predator, Die Hard--all pretty much perfect action movies. Hell, even the first Conan was kickass. Even Bloodsport! But nothing done since has measured up and you can't go home again with any of these franchises. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

AWESOME : TITLE GRAPHICS NEED SOME WORK
by TheDohDoh
Oct 23rd, 2007
02:48:53 PM
Yeah, woooo boy. Nice trailer. I think the title graphics still need a little work, they are a little to direct-to-video. Too chunky. Need to be sharper and more modern. Definitely in red though. If "RAMBO" keeps expressing the kills, then it's going to be a hit. Relentless, war means war motherfuckers. It's great the he doesn't have a country, so the media can't pin the film for being pro-Iraq War. The "You got weapons..then you ain't changin' nothin'" line is great. YES. Officially siked. AND REMEMBER GUYS, THANK THEDOHDOH FOR THE NEW TITLE, I AM THE ONE WHO SUGGESTED IT.

Sly sounds like a rumbling volcano, the shite Golum Globus style 80's musak does'nt help elevate the trailer, prefered th original teaser with Goldsmith's cues much more brooding and epic sounding. It does'nt really feel like a Rambo film tbh, not getting a 'First Blood' vibe from it, feels more like a pastiche of 80's action exploitation. Cringe worthy tag lines too. BUT...In spite of all that (or maybe because of it) this looks like a great piece of mindless popcorn action, gotta support ol Sly, he's the last of his kind, hope this film earns it's place in the Rambo cabal.
Let's see..

Not great, but it works. It shows some serious issues (this shit is happening there right now), it has cheesy elements which hark back to the old school action films, which is good for the older crowd, nostalgia. It also should appeal to kids who want to watch a violent action film for once!

by www.revyou.tv
Oct 23rd, 2007

Stallone knows his stuff and he's actually pretty deep, so odds are this movie will be good. However, after so many years, why wouldn't he change his look at all? That's the only thing dating this movie, IMHO. Also it would be cool to see Rambo fighting in Iraq or something - this kind of setting isn't very current and pulls the focus from Rambo himself.

Not "red band John Rambo" good, but still good. I can't claim it's good for me, but I have to admit that I have a definite desire to just plain watch a guy kill a bunch of bad guys. World situations being as complicated and fucked up as they are, cutting back to that basic seems like a great idea, even if it's a dumb idea, if you know what I mean.

Trailer doesn't show the true Rambo dynamic
by lavaboat
Oct 23rd, 2007
05:11:44 PM
Here's the thing, Rambo is human weaponry, always has been really. He's a bones and blood war machine, a crafted thing for killing. Rambo chose this road, signed up for it and everthing. And then it came time to stop making stuff bleed all the time, which is fine. But now Rambo is the sole steward of his own psychic storms. This requires lots of work and a shitload of normalcy. And when this process gets fucked with Rambo finds it's natural to make stuff bleed again. The trailer doesn't show a man pushed too far, it doesn't show a man with a questionable grip on his own frailties. Sorry, it just doesn't.

No, I just want you to slow down

Have you never been mellow?
Have you never tried to find a comfort from inside you?
Have you never been happy just to hear your song?
Have you never let someone else be strong?

Running around as you do with your head up in the clouds
I was like you
Never had time to lay back, kick your shoes off, close your eyes

You need someone to hold your hand

Have you never been mellow?
Have you never tried to find a comfort from inside you?
Have you never been happy just to hear your song?
Have you never let someone else be strong?

Huurrrggggg, YES. Thats real old skool trailer for us old skool boys! Have to admit, though, others would have damn good reason to laugh! I admit, I did, but loved it. It did play off like a joke trailer as if it was ghandi 2: The Return - "Ghandi's back and he's pissed, he's bad.." - cut to Ghandi with machine gun as he utters "die you taliban fukkas". Live for nothing or die for something - ha - yeah when's it out - we there yet?

Seriously? Like Ingmar Bergman intellectual? Or like rip your head off and shit down yer neck intellectual? You know, the redneck shoot first ask questions later style of diplomacy, cause that's who this film is for. All this bull from posters on here about Myanmar and 'it's happening now' so that makes this turd of a film somehow 'intellectual' and worthwhile? Are people going to see this for it's political content? No. They're going cause they can see some American lunkhead shoots people as if that somehow saves the world and is the right answer to the problem. Great. Reinforce that shit. Just what the world needs right now, I don't think. And yeh, where is the thread on 'Assassination of Jesse James'? You're right, I thought this was a film site too. Enough about this cheap, war porn tat. This is on a par with a tape full of random explosions, some bikini clad ladies firing automatic weapons and a few buckets of blood. Didn't we have enough of this bull in the 80's? Haven't we moved on at all? Maybe not. I'm sad. Enough!

Turkey have been attacked for decades by the PKK, with ten's of thousands of casualties. They've kinda got a reason to be pissed with a bordering nation escalating terrorist activity's against them. The Unrated Trailer Was Much Better...And Not Just The Gore
by Acquanetta

I thought the unrated trailer was a lot more interesting- and I'm not referring to the action. I really liked the quiet moments it had, with Rambo admitting he had been living in seclusion "a long time". By comparison, the announcer's voiceover in this trailer is lame and cheesy. The only addition I really liked in this one was the cobra fight intercut with the action footage. Otherwise, I'd be very worried if this had been my first glimpse at Rambo IV.

1. Trailer is NOT the movie. Learn to separate the two. Some awful movies get GREAT trailers and some fantastic movies get LAME ones. Some get it just right...I hope this is one of those. 2. The Red Band trailer from a while back was just that...RED BAND...Not approved for eyes under the age of 17. It doesn't mean any of the carnage we saw in that one is now OUT of the finished film...it just means this one is the official trailer you will see in movie theater previews...approved for ALL audiences. 3. New title sucks. 4. A "Rambo" already in Germany? Who the fuck cares? Germany will just call this one something different....Like..."Rambo 4". So, obviously...Rambo turns his back on the team that wanted to borrow his boat & services. They find another boat & captain and go anyways...and are promptly captured & tortured. Rambo, feeling guilty, catches wind of this and decides to go set these "prisoners of war" free. Same plot as Rambo 2...and I'm fine with that...but, in the end...who does Rambo give his big "What I want...is what they want..." speech to...seeing how he no longer..."has a country"?

first, turkey is fighting with ethnic kurdistan on the turkey/iraq border, and they have indicated their intention to enter the kurd region/kurdistan for purposes of quelling rebellion in that area given that the US Congress is likely to pass a law condeming the Ottoman Empire's slaughter of Armenians after the turn of the 20th century. Is Turkey already IN Kurdistan? That may depend on your perspective. Back to Rambo: if the point is that we need a good villain, fight, etc...Burma seems an odd choice, given Darfur and tons of other problem areas. But for all I care, Rambo can go into the Congo and kill the gorilla poachers. There's a movie--gorillas preparing for war, led by ONE MAN OUT FOR VENGEANCE after the death of his orangutan love. Rambo 8: Bedtime for Bonzo. Rambo: The First Blood Part II was an excellent, if cheesy, action movie. However, the ridiculousness of the plot in Rambo II somehow was overcome by the plot, fx, and ass-kicking. Whereas R:FBII had a legitimate-enough reason for Rambo to do "one last mission", you can't have a third movie in a series where the "one last mission" happens again. THat's like giving a movie the name "Final Destination 3". It makes no sense. So Rambo III didn't work, though I love how Sly cauterized his bullet wound with a large caliber shell. I'm sure they use that technique in Iraq now as standard operating procedure. So Rambo I.V. Not Rambo 4, Rambo I.V. - where he's so old he needs something pumped in his system--is another "one last mission" movie. Only now, it's Rambo I.V. - Burmese Fishing Guide. I'd rather see Cobra 2, Over the Top 2, Stop or My Mother Will Shoot 2, Tango and Cash 2, Oscar 2, Lock Up 2, Rhinestone 2, or something else than Rambo I.V.

RE: TURKEY : C LEGION/ BringingSexyBack = RAMBO $80MILL
by TheDohDoh
Oct 24th, 2007
12:54:29 AM
C Legion, what's your deal, mate? All I meant was that Turkey is going to invade the Kurds w/o the U.S.'s approval and turn Iraq into a bigger, unecessary blood bath, thus allowing any country with qualms to enter and bring hellfire and death to the Iraqi people. BSexyBack was totally right (thank you) in understanding my point. I spout bullshit you say? Dunno about that man. Don't agree. Again, I think RAMBO (all CAPS) will connect with audiences who are tired of war-propaganda (via Fox News) and anti-war propaganda (via Lions of Lambs, which will gross $40 mill tops, looks soooo lousy) and end up grossing $80 mill like a mini-300. Sly has a way of connecting with audiences who both want blood and want blood to stop (conservatives/liberals if you will) and I'll be honest. As a liberal, no fucking movie is going to enlighten or resolve or resonate in the build up to World War III (Iran awaits Cheney's wolf whisper) more so than RAMBO, No JOHN. I think this will expand beyond the normal nostalgia audience and break into the Monday Night Football crowd, the hipster demographic, and the urban audiences. Also, he's got the cruicifix in there, so there's the Christian demo too. RAMBO is for the people. And like I said, OF COURSE I CONSIDER THE U.S. AMONGST THE "WARMONGERS," that's what we love about RAMBO. The dude is without a country. He'd go over Bush if he was camped out in Maryland taming cobras. Fate would have it that he's near Burma. The guy is a soldier of fortune. And, we all are at this point. Anybody who defends the U.S. government's occupation(s) is out of their fucking mind. Bush should be tackled like Sadaamn's statue. He's an evil evil man. Cheney should be hung. I'm quoting Hunter Thompson. Our government is not a government but a front for corporate interests that will bring this country to its wobbly knees. I love how Bush wouldn't visit California today b/c he doesn't want to make it look like he'll jump to the rescue for rich whites in Malibu but leave the blacks in New Orleans waiting for months post-Katrina. It's a fucking Larry David CYE commentary in the making. SO, SLY, BRING ON THE RAMBO, DON'T TAME DOWN THE VIOLENCE. THIS AIN'T SAW V. THIS IS THE FUCKING 80S COMING BACK TO HAUNT AND PULVERISZE OUR ASSES. FUCK ARNOLD, HE FIGHTS FIRES, RAMBO FIGHTS THE WARS FOR THE PEOPLE. Can you believe Arnold is governor? You know what it looks like? It looks like a solid RAMBO movie. Nothing more, nothing less. From the trailer it has that entire "Stallone" feel to the way he personally approached his better action movies, yes, right down to having a catch line like "Live for nothing, die for something." Which doesn't make it Eighties per se -- for crying out loud, what movie (even now) DOESN'T have some screenwriter inserting into the story OR the studio marketing department plucking out of the movie itself some sort of catch phrase that they can then ram down your throat?

I was genuinely shocked at how great I thought ROCKY BALBOA was, especially given how utterly shitty I find ROCKY 5 to have been. I thought Stallone had really regained some class and form with ROCKY and so far the trailers for RAMBO or JOHN RAMBO, which ever it ends up being, seem like he's back in form over this one, too.

If I have a choice of spending 10 bucks on a Friday or Saturday night to get out of the house and munch on some popcorn and have some fun at the movies, given this or having to sit through some hammy two-fisted lecturesome bullshit like RENDITION and all those crappy anti-American policy movies where the Hollywood Left wants to have a circle jerk in an election year, guess which one I'm going to?

Yeah, that's right -- to RAMBO. The same movie as fucking everyone else who is out for a good time. Stallone was the man back then, and its a blast to see him back having fun again or at least TRYING to make something fun unlike a lot of other stars who continue to hack their way through completely unforgettable and truly non-fun movies for an easy paycheck. GO, SLY!

Can someone out there score the trailer with original Goldsmith.

Speaking of which, I hope there are winks and inside references to the first movie in this movie. Kind of like how Bruce Willis referenced the first movie in his sequel this year. Wink wink...only the fans noticed! have Rambo try to ride a motorbike in the forest again and fall of again.

Missionaries Portrayed as Complete Innocents?!
by Kal Reeve
Oct 24th, 2007
02:18:17 AM
I grew up inspired by Stallone performance as the true-hearted Rocky Balboa. And he moved me profoundly with his awe-inspiring return to the character last year. But I think "Rambo" will be a misstep for him. He is clearly giving a white-washed portrayal of Christian missionaries. There is nothing wrong with loving God and being guided by your belief in Him to do good by others. But history has proven that the kindness and charity of most missionaries is guided by an agenda to promote their slanted form of Christianity. Where are they for the members of the third world after they use food and warnings that Jesus is the only way to salvation to convert them. There are missionaries who actually do good and keep their religious beliefs to themselves. But history shows that many are manipulators and not the humanitarians they claim to be. I sincerely hope Mr. Stallone's portrayal of the missionaries is not as ill informed as the trailer indicates.

Myself I was happier with John Rambo, for me and most people my age, who were too young to see First Blood in the cinema, it was always just called Rambo. Calling it John Rambo had a finality sure (which I can understand Sly didn't want to give it) but it also had a continuation without backtracking.

Imagine if you will that Aliens come down and all they find left of our civilisation is a stack of dvds. (humour me friends) and they find Rambo, Rambo: First Blood Part 2 First Blood, and Rambo 3. What would they make of it? and would they have the ideal viewing experience? zargblat'poo and xxyehn'iy'op might, but not poor Fengr'ashlll who watched them first put in Rambo first and was so confused he crashed his moon unit into Cydonia. It's all very sad...

Missionaries...

I guess they would have better portrayed the team as humanitarian workers and not missionaries... and not all white Americans. I worked in that area and many of the humanitarian workers are locals (Thais) or Burmese refugees themselves helping their people. As such missionaries are not a converting group anymore - they shouldn't be at least. I know of Christian groups who help Muslims build Mosques and Buddhists temples so it is not good to generalise as some people are doing.

In the third act, Rambo falls down a sewer where Man-Bat and Killer Croc are duking it out. However, both creatures put their differences aside to team up and quickly get the better of Rambo before an English news reporter says "it's so brutal", "they are hitting him", "surely he cannot survive now", "I cannot bear to watch", "he came to save us but now he is the one who needs saving", etc., etc.. Then--Kevin Costner's character from Dances With Wolves appears, sacrificing himself to save Rambo who repays the favour by separating Dr Kirk Langstrom from his evil alter-ego; "You were not born a bat...so why should you strive to be one?". The moral is REVENGE DOES NOT WORK and Sam & Ivan Raimi pop up to tell us so in the fifteen minute epilogue. *End of Spoiler*

Just imagine a bunch of closet homosexuals...sorry Emo kids screeching "FIRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSST BLOOD!" while stallone lumbers around, lopping Burmese heads off with a machete. Speakings of lumbering machete loppers, did anyone think stallone looked a lot like jason voorhees in this trailer? If it tanks here in the states, maybe the overseas markets can change the title to "Friday the 13th part 11: Jason takes Burma". They can digitally insert a hockey mask over stallone's face, just like TBS did over all those boobies in showgirls.

I'm a bigger Rocky fan, but also enjoyed First Blood, and the 2nd one(to a degree). John Rambo was a better title than Rambo, and the other trailer was better than this one. Seems like there's a few (sophisticated sounding) one liners, miss the Goldsmith music, didn't like the graphics, or the feel of the trailer. Give back the best of the 80's genre, but cut the cheese out. I don't have as much riding on this film, like I did with Rocky Balboa. I kept my expectations low, and Stallone knocked it out of the park(for the most part). This film, I just don't know. I'll go see it. And, while I'm not a total Iraq hawk, I would rather see this than the usual leftist anti-military shit movie.

The first trailer was better in that it had much, much better pacing. This new one is too 'all over the place.' I understand they won't show the extreme violence of the one on the internet, but you can edit those parts out for the trailer. Also, I love the guy reading from the Bible over the cut scenes in the first trailer, much more effective than the 'cobra' speech delivered by the mayor of Munchkin Town.

The first trailer was definitley better and ironically (despite the gore) more appealing to the masses than this one. But this is cheesy in a retro old skool way that I find quite cool (and funny!) especially that voice over "You know his name. yada yada" but that same cheesy approach is really for fans only. I think Stallone always intended that - he even talks directly to us for crying out aloud so he knows what we want. But I reckon he intends to release a more modernised trailer later that will gear towards the masses.

...is because this is clearly a gritty, grindhouse version of 21st century Rambo. The earlier trailers showed this, and because they gave us peeks at the violence, the cheesiness of it was offset. Here, this official one looks fun, but kinda cheesy, because it looks low budget and lacks the grit. Mind you, I'm just saying THIS trailer didn't do it for me. The movie is probably still decapitatingly good.

Sly, I'm a big fan, but this trailer is seriously going down the wrong path. It may have played well in the 80's, but times have changed. Whoever assembled it is all over the road (sorry if it was you). Your first trailer was light years ahead of this turd. This one will evoke laughter in the theaters. You should have left the whole Ken "White Shadow" Howard piece in and added more drama, not chesey one liners and explosions. You're bleeding credibility with this one, and it won't reach beyond your loyal fan base. Also, put the original Goldsmith score to it. That says Rambo like nothing else can. And don't ever listen to AB King. You could take a steaming pile of shit and he'd applaud it. Good luck!

Then one day, in the middle of the night, he wakes up from the dogs barking. He goes out to check on them, and there's this weird creature there that runs away and jumps up on the roof when he chases it. The next morning, his fields are full of mysterious crop circles...

He spends the rest of the movie running around in his house chasing aliens, yelling "They drew first blood!".

He's a lighter skinned Chinese guy...I can't imagine him fitting in with those bad guys.

As for Rambo living on a farm, that was just a question of why isn't he. He was wandering around the U.S. in the first movie, how come in part III and IV he's in some place 10,000 miles away by himself hammering something? You'd think after the third movie he'd have headed back to the U.S. to live in his seclusion.

But I want Rambo V to take place in the U.S., before he heads back overseas for any future sequels. He hasn't been home since the first movie. I want to see Rambo running around town (or in a building) in a claustrophic setting again with his big gun...almost like a Bruce Willis movie...but setting traps and doing it Rambo style.

The cost of living in the US is prohibitive for Rambo. Buying a farm just wasn't in the cards. Remember when Rambo was crying about how he couldn't hold a job even though he was in charge of million dollar equipment during the war? After the events of the first movie, it's hard to see how he could live in the country anymore.

He moved to a Thai monastery so he could work as a carpenter in exchange for room and board. He made side money with stick fighting. It was probably the bext existence for him - to have peace, an inner peace, while still being able to unleash his aggression in a non-lethal way.

Guys like Trautman and the missionary keep dragging him into the warzone and they won't let him live in peace. They keep going to places where they don't belong, get captured, and expect Rambo to clean up their messes.
