I'm still on the fence with Heroes - last season it seems like they new where they were going, although I didn't like the ending. I still think the twist should have been that Linderman had a real nuclear weapon somewhere in downtown NY that Peter had to stop. The exploding man bit was kinda cool but didn't make much sense. Anyway, this season has been such a snoozefest. I mean, I CANNOT believe that Peter, knowing what he could do, wouldn't just take what he wants. Plus, the Mexican wonder twins are on par with Jessiki, D.L., and Micah - characters I could care less about. Last season they drug the story out way too much with them, and the new "Hero" who can replicate things she sees = lame. The whole Katrina thing was shoved in our faces. I want Heroes to get good again, ie have Sylar kill some people off.

Not 7 weeks, or 5 weeks or 2 weeks away anymore. It's tonight, at longest last. And NBC has done a spectacular job, IMO at putting Bell over as a big deal in its ads leading up to tonight. That says to me they're encouraged by her work on the show and are confident enough to give her a mega-push over what would be the main storyline, Matt trying to find Molly's 'nightmare man'.

Cannot wait. :D

Shat as Kirk...
by American Mythos
Oct 22nd, 2007
06:47:54 AM
I know this isn't a Trek talkback, but Trek was mentioned. So, this movie is supposed to be about Romulans traveling back in time to kill Kirk, or so rumor has it, with back and forths between Spock in the 24th century and the TOS era? Well, a killer ending would be, after all is said and done and the past is saved, Ambassador Spock queries a young ensign about the death of Kirk on Veridian III, to which said ensign replies, "Uh, sir, James Kirk survived the Veridian III incident." And then we have the whole reunion of Nimoy and the Shat. I know, it throws time travel theory out the window (if Kirk survived Veridian III Spock would remember it and would never have queried about the death of Kirk on VIII), but it would be the coolest moment in Trek history. And keep that mf'n ending under wraps until the very moment audiences see it.
This rundown is why I quit watching

I agree. If superpowers started appearing in the real world, I have no doubt someone would put on a costume and fight crime because they would be inspired by comic books. It would be a great storyline in "Heroes" and could be done with humor; the series takes itself too seriously and I'm tired of the I-have-superpowers-but-want-to -be-normal-and- I'm-full-of-angst bullshit! They've managed to make Claire dull with her annoying Flying Emo boyfriend, Nikki/Jessica is still whining, Hiro's back-to-Japan storyline is dragging and the Latin Wonder Twins real power is boring the shit out of the viewers but I'm finding Reflex Girl from New Orleans interesting. They need to introduce a character who is inspired by comics and wants to be a Superhero! Coming up with a codename and costume would be a hilarious and original storyline.

Cloverfield and Heroes...
by PROF IKAMONO
Oct 22nd, 2007
08:00:56 AM
Yesterday the latest Cloverfield related website went live: www.boldfutura.jp

Bold Futura is another subsidiary of the Tagruato Corporation, the parent company of Slusho.

On the website I read that Bold Futura was founded by "...principles from the Tagruato Corporation, Yoshida Medical Research, and THE NAKAMURA GROUP" (emphasis mine)

The implication here is staggering... was Kaito Nakamura in league with Ganu Yoshida?

Will Uluru be the beast tearing up NYC on Jan. 18, 2008?

If indeed JJ Abrams and Tim Kring are having a crossover with their universes... what will that mean for the "I hate Horoes" Lost fans or the "I hate Lost" Heroes fans...?

...I posted on last week's Heroes thread as soon as I saw this yesterday morning... the website has, alas, gone back down to an "under construction" notice today... But it WAS LIVE yesterday! And it DID say Nakamura Group! I swear!

I know some folks brought up mind control last week and it's the same thing I was thinking as well while watching the last episode. But let's take it one step further. Perhaps the "marks" or homing chips put on many of the power afflicted folk aren't just some tracking system, but possibly a way to control the newly super powered masses....and now one of the old guard in the company wants control. Its not that we should forget these events. Its more that we should not turn them into madulin babbles we use when a writer cant think of better motivation or a way to tug at the audiences heart strings. Its like in the show "Drive" on Fox when they kept mentioning over and over again that it was an illegal cross country road race. We got it the first time. In reality, what these writers are doing is removing all efficacy of the event by making it a fetish in the show. Thats just bad writing.

Lost drifted a bit in it's second and early third season, but it was always good and really redeemed itself by the season finale. Heroes started off decent, but this horrible second season is losing viewers at a phenomenal rate. They'd better do something FAST.

and yeah, I'm watching the next few weeks for Kristen Bell, but I don't expect her talent to be able to breathe new life into this any more than Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson could overcome the dialogue of George Lucas.

If you want to compare them, compare the best episodes. Now Lost 1x04 has a tremendous twist which puts everything into perspective, but Heroes 1x17 pays off 17 episodes of the excellent Claire/Noah relationship superbly. I think 1x04 has more of a 'fuck you, THIS is what we're capable of' impact, but 1x17 has more emotion built up. I'd say the best eps are tied.

Does anyone else see one of the storylines heading down a path where network TV just normally chooses not to go? I mean am I wrong in getting the impression that the annoying flyboy that is currently seducing Claire is in fact her own brother? The third son of Nathan seen in a picture last episode? Add to this the equally strong possibility of Hiro pulling a "Fry" and becoming his own ancestor and we are hitting new levels of underlying "ick" factor.

I live on the Gulf Coast and have no problem with a character in New Orleans facing the problems so many are still facing here. What makes it cool is that she has “powers”. It dates the show, but it also makes it more realistic. At least it does for me. So far, it has been handled tastefully. BTW, I've noticed how aicn still runs ads up top to help. Thanks guys!

Excited about Bell tonight. I'm hoping that all of the acting credibility that Kristen Bell has earned with Veronica Mars doesn't take a nosedive tonight with her appearance on Heroes.

The lame series finale showed it for what it was... an OK show with average writing and acting. There's too many story threads and none of them worth caring about. I agree about the costumed hero, it needs to be introduced. A friend and I were discussing that last season. It would be a natural progression of the show and would freshen things up. This behind the scense conspiracy stuff isn't much fun anymore.

It's odd to me that there are many good writers out there (especially genre writers) and it seems that "Heroes" and "Bionic Woman" doesn't have any of them on staff. They should let the AICN Talkback collectively write an episode of "Bionic Woman". Then again scratch that because there would be too many suggestions for Sackhoff diving into Ryan's muff that we wouldn't be taken seriously.

Lost Season 2
by Mr. Profit
Oct 22nd, 2007
03:39:37 PM
Was weak because the overall scheduling by ABC was awful. 3 new episodes 2 repeats then 1 new episode 3 repeats. It was fucking annoying and it didn't keep my interest.

Season 2 also wasn't a very strong season and I STILL havent seen every episode. But the finale was so fucking odd that I had to return for season 3.

The first half of Lost season 3 was ridiculously boring to me. I almost gave up on the show but the marketing of the remaining episodes being a non stop season drew me back in.

All of those episodes were really fucking entertaining (minus Jack's tatoo episode). The finale was great (glad I avoided spoilers) And going back I realized that Lost is a really well done show.

I knew it initially, but when I watched other TV shows, you can see the difference. The production values on Lost beat out most network fare. And the acting (even if the mysteries may piss me off sometimes) is always great. So now I'm back full time. And I really hope that they learned their lesson in fan backlash and really fire on all cylinders with these 16 back to back episodes in February.

And I hope they give the show a new fucking timeslot. They should move it to Thursday at 10 following "Grey's Anatomy". That way it has a proper lead in and virtually no competition. Who is scared of "ER"?

But she is just a cute down to earth girl with a good sense of humor. She has talent as an actress. She is smart, dresses well, and again is funny.

The reason guys like her and she has a large male fanbase is because she is basically perfect girlfriend material.

Bell seems like a girl who can hang out with you at a bar and drink beer with you and not be a snotty bitch who is wanting to hit up a hotter club in a selfish effort to show off her new Louboutin shoes she bought with her stripper earnings.

She is basically a girl who's perfect personality amplifies her already decent looks to make her desirable.

Hope that explains her appeal to the people who seem to be confused.

The show is up against Criminal Minds and for some reason the geezers at CBS power all of their shows about cops and detectives to ratings victory. Grey's may seem soapy and have a different audience than Lost, but Lost is probably the most unique show on ABC's schedule. There is really nothing you can pair it with.

If it stays on Wednesday, it will be on right after the vagina hour of Private Practice. And if you think Grey's is soapy, Private Practice is like a Lifetime show that snuck onto ABC's schedule.

Also I caught all the crucial episodes of season 2, but I missed maybe like 3 or 4 episodes. The other's just didn't interest me once I found out they were regular people. But I read recaps of shit I missed in season 2.

I know it isn't the same, but Season 2 is on my Christmas list. So I will catch up soon.

Lost season 4 is going to either be brillent or a mistake, I can't imagine a "season 2" with season 4. Season 2 wasn't horriable, the marketing was and as a late Lost fan via catching up over that summer and thanks to Their own catchup episodes I was able to get into season 2 but not without work and ABC's wonky scheduling didn't help. I recently watched it on dvd and it's good but not great but the Bad Twin marketing attempts SUCKED

These shows keep mentioning the obvious ad nauseum b/c the networks executives are greedy and shortsighted. The only thing that is important to them is INCREASING the viewing audience, to show how great they are at their jobs. So, they repeat the obvious over and over so that new watchers, people who join after spending the first 30 min watching a sitcom and people who are flipping channels will quickly know what's going on. To the executives, orienting new people and getting them on board is far more important than lowering the quality of the story/dialogue. It's also the same reason why every episode of ER has to be "a very special, unforgettable episode", which leads to one ridiculous story line after another, very much unlike the high-quality initial seasons. Unfortunately, these executives are too short-sighted to see that all these compromises dilute quality and value of their IP and cost them in the long-run.

Speaking of which, one thing that bothers me this season is how the tagline is "Somebody is hunting the heroes one by one. And it's one of them!" I know it's hard to come up with a credible villain/conflict for people with superpowers, but do they have to make it so obvious that this season's story arc is EXACTLY the same as last season's? It's insulting that they don't think we'll notice that.

everything i'm add has already been said somwhere, but im gonna say it again anyway.
as someone who gets excited for each new episode of both lost and heroes (it is possible to enjoy them both) if i had to only pick one to watch it would have to be lost. i disagree about lost season 2 being bad.. i really enjoyed picking up all the clues and craziness in season 2. (like the first time the blast door came down and we saw the map, i, like every other obsessed fan, was on the internet for days after picking apart everything on there.. that was fun)

i do agree that lost stumbled a bit with the first story arc of season 3, but then they made up for it with the rest of the season.

heroes, on the other hand was an interesting concept that started off slow.. then the first season picked up, and i found myself really enjoying it.. until the let down of a finale. but i was still on board for season 2. the writers promised they learned from their mistakes. unfortunately it doesnt seem like they have. nothing has happened yet this season.

now im not gonna give up on it yet. im just crossing my fingers that we're in 'lost season 3' territory, and heroes picks up enough that i forget the first few boring episodes ever happened.

There is an absurd amount of footage of them together on Youtube, and it seems like the defining push in her choosing Heroes over Lost may have been Quinto's presence. Is he actually gay, or is that just something that's been said on the talkbacks to insult him or something. I know she's in a relationship too, but it's ridiculous how much footage of them, with romantic music playing over it is popping up all over the place. I've consistently enjoyed and been wowed by Lost though. That's not to say Lost is better, and I can see why Heroes is so appealing and fun for a lot of people, I'm just saying I think Lost is the much better show. It's stupid that they're even being compared. It's not like this is the first time two arc-based, immersive, mysterious shows have aired at the same time. There's been plenty.

I'm sure everyone wants to talk about Veronica Mars appearing on tonights show. (I'd be excited too if it was Karen Sisco instead.

but the news I'm geeked about was in the Dana Davis interview in the TV Guide Scoop newsletter. The new Hero dropped some details from unproduced scripts from her previous series "The Nine", including her own near-rape and the major revelation that her dad was the inside man and planned the robbery.

Wow. I have enjoyed Chi MCBrides work as everything from Principal Stever Harper (Boston Public) to Detective Emerson Cod (Pushing Daisies). His act as the uptight bank manager and concerned parent had the wool over my eyes - he was the bad guy? Awesome! I don't suppose there were many "the Nine" fans here - or at all, really - but while it slowed down from it's theatrical quality premiere it still had an intricate and steadily unfolding plot and deeply developed characters. I have often mentioned that I'd love to see the creators and writers of this series finish the story with a novelization, and these new revelations only whet my appetite for such a work.

A show with a steadily moving plot, tight continuity and deeply rounded characters... you decide what that has to do with Heroes.

Do they think we're all just ungrateful bitches, or do they think we'll come around when we see episode X, or do they think they need to make changes? Are they learning from this or do they just think they can do whatever? I'm really sorry the show has become so stagnant. That reviewer is right, the pacing has died, nothing interesting is happening. A whole episode with no Hiro or Peter is a huge slap in the face this early in the season. If they're gonna do that then they should have whole episodes that focus on just them (and that episode had leave them in a different place than where it found them and I don't mean just geography). I don't think it helps that last season did end with a very satisfying climax anyway, so this season feels like build up for another let down.

and keep the show reality-grounded as in "What would really happen if...", then a comics geek will develop a power, get a costume, fight crime for about a week and get slaughtered.

They might try going with the original premise of Mike Barons "Badger": "You'd have to be crazy to put on a costume and fight crime. He is. The Badger isn't a super-hero, he just thinks he is." Not that i didn;t enjoy the more conventional direction Badger evolved in during its first Comics run, but that original premise really had a lot of unexplored potential.

I also enjoyed when...

all the "heroes" teamed up, albeit briefly to fight Sylar in the finale, yet the fight itself was underwhelming. You'd think that after an entire season of these characters being more or less alone, they'd be together NOW, but they've just gone back to their positions in season one, with the occasional team having been forged (Parkman and Mohinder, Mohinder and HRG)

because it is, for the most part, easy to follow, you can pretty much dive in with little effort and know what's going on. LOST on the other hand, unless you're willing to drop 120 bucks on the first two seasons right now and another 60 when season 3 hits in December will lose you quickly. I do enjoy having both genre shows on the air though and I do enjoy them both.

How I Met Your Mother is Gay?

I didn't know Doogie was gay until the 2nd season. The show is funny and should be on a network like NBC. It seems CBS doesn't realy care for the show. You can't knock the show. It's one of the best traditional format sitcoms on the air right now.

And if we were to follow your logic, is everyone who liked Harry Potter gay too because Dumbledore enjoys the company of dude wizards? What about LOTR? Isn't Gandalf into guys too?

And the KBell-Quinto love rumors are silly. Sillier are the Sylar is gay bull crap. Just because he was gay on Tori Spellings VH1 show doesn't mean he's gay in real life.

Lost Second Season = Sucked a Wet Dog's Ass; Heroes Second Seaso

So, to hear fanboy spin control: Lost “never” strayed off course. Huh?!? Lost’s WHOLE second season was about a stupid computer and some stupid numbers that have to be typed so a stupid electromagnet thingie doesn’t activate, just because some total retard didn’t install a stupid OFF switch and label it: “The Stupid Off Switch for the Stupid Electromagnet Thingie.” That, in a nutshell, was Lost’s ENTIRE second season. If you disagree; you'd better have some ACTUAL good moments to list and not just fanboy minutiae. Yeah, I know; “Neener neener Heroes' second season sucks too.” Yeah, well; the season’s JUST STARTED. By this point even *I* was saying in the talkbacks that Lost’s second season didn’t suck. Man; Was…I…Wrong! I feel better confessing it. You will too. If you want to flame Heroes at the same time; whatever rocks your world, dude. Some people prefer stories inspired by imaginative comic book whimsy. Others are entertained by a beach. It’s just a matter of taste.

Herc,a few days back you hinted that you had information that William Shatner would be in ST XI. You mentioned something along the lines of that all the talk of Shatner not being in the film was "a lie" You also said that you know more about the film than most + Shatner would return as older Kirk. Don't leave us hanging. Is this true? Do you have information about Shatner returning as Kirk or is it mere speculation on your part?

For weeks now, my NBC station has been coming in messed up. (all shows: heroes, office, chuck,... whatever) I am quite obviously missing stuff off the sides of the screen - picture, text, whatever. I think they're broadcasting the "HD" signal on even just the plain non-HD broadcast. I can even see the edge of the letters "HD" on the left of my screen. Is it NBC or is my cable company screwing up?

It's really annoying. what happened to broadcasing it letterboxed for those of us without HD? Why mess up the picture for the majority of you audience, just to avoid having 2 different signals for your few HD customers?
