Every now and then on AICN I get to a point in an article where the writing is so good I quickly scroll back up to the top to see if it's one of the staff members. Great reviews.

Uh. No. The girl gave what had to be the worst screen performance ever seen. "You're hurrrrting meeeyeeeyeeeeeeyeeeeeee!" Christ. I actually walked out of the movie because after 45 minutes it was already getting completely idiotic with its ludicrous "twists" and I figured it would just get worse. Only movie I have ever walked out of in 25 years of movie-going.

Just out of curiosity though, how DID it end?

It DID have an ending. Though I guess since you didn't understand that I can understand why you enjoyed Sympathy so much. To each his own I guess.

I've always found it interesting when someone says they didn't like the performances in a film, when they don't watch the whole film... A great performance should be an arc and without seeing that arc completely there's no way to gauge it. I'm afraid you walked out too early BitterMan because in a game of cat & mouse what you may have seen as 'bad acting' could have been part of the bait laid out in the game. I thought the performances where astounding, especially for an indie film, and it seems so did Variety when I looked up the external reviews for this film on imdb. Meanwhile, it truly is 'to each his own' but don't be the jackass that asks people to post the ending to a suspense thriller online. Some of us do like to see movies without knowing how they end. You truly are, a Bitter Man...

Seriously, I'm as jaded as the next guy...but this movie completely freaked me out. Best minimilist horror movie in years. Inside was great too!

Seem a bit Admiral Ackbar inspired? I can't help but hear that voice when I see the poster. Saw IV....It's A Trap!

There's this great thing you can do concerning spoilers to a movie. It's called MARKING IT SPOILER. That way, folks can skip over it if they don't want to read it. It's not my fault AICN uses the most antiquated posting software on the entire internet and thus we can't have PMs or advanced HTML tagging.

And I don't think you need to see an entire film to know someone can't act. Like I have to watch ALL of Godfather III to know Sofia Coppola is dreadful? Does something happen at the end of Saw that makes it totally understandable that Cary Elwes and Danny Glover give the worst performances of their career? I don't think so. The girl was terrible, and I have since found out part of the ending (concerning her character) and it's still no excuse for how bad she was, though I can at least understand a theory why it would. I'd explain more but i'd hate to be a jackass and spoil part of the end of a movie, because apparently you are forced to read everything in a talkback even when it's recommended you don't.

I really don't wanna get into a talkback battle over this film, so this is my last post (even know I know you'll respond and I hate not getting the last word, that's why I'm named after Jack Burton :) I obviously liked it a lot (so did the guy who posted this) and you didn't, that's fine. That's what built this site -- opinions on film. I was floored to discover today that someone on this site hated the new Coen Brothers film, which I heard was hands down the best film of the year. And then there's Harry, who just loves everything :) But I do feel the need to throw this out because I've followed this film's website since I saw it this summer. "Few women on film have managed to terrorize two possibly psychotic males while handcuffed to a bed and bleeding to death." That comes from Variety, who called the film "a female empowerment missle." Then Bloody-Disgusting compared her to Hannibal Lecter and Fatally-Yours called her the standout of "One of the best indie films this year." These seem like credible reviewers to me... Again, like you said, 'to each his own.' I just dug the flick and can't imagine how at the end of it you wouldn't say, "Damn, she was really good." And I agree strongly, there should be PMs or HTML tagging because I've stumbled into spoilers too many times on this site and I've ruined some films for myself that way. Anyway, I dig sympathy and I liked her a lot. And I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love No Country for Old Men.

I went to the screening of this film actually, and I was amazed. The reviewer is right that the movie isn't about much of anything, and it is so incredibly gory and violent. It is so extreme that I think the audience will eventually disconnect from it. I'm usually very quiet during movies, but I was squirming and screaming during this. If anybody remembers, during one of the earlier brutal scenes, when the audience was silent I said "Jesus" and I guess it was loud enough for everyone to hear because people started laughing, which is good because a tension breaker is needed for this kind of film. Anyways that doesn't matter, but the film does go pretty far at the end, turning into some kind of fucked up play where you don't know whether to laugh or continue screaming. I don't know. It's flawed towards the end, but picks up by turning into a surrealistic nightmare. I happen to like the film, in a sort of masochistic way I guess haha. I thought the soundtrack and sound design was excellent and very engrossing. If the film didn't have the atmosphere and tension it has, it wouldn't be a good film at all. I guess this movie is more about having an experience than getting into some in depth story. There's more to say but I'm done.

I dont think it was ever intended to be anything more than that. Where was the Twin Peaks moment? I must have not caught on to that. The best gory serious film that ive ever seen. http://tinyurl.com/pv8do
