unending references to the "war on terror", 9/11, etc. from critics. looks all right, but I'm hoping it's not a heavy-handed allegory for our fears in the era of Islamic terrorism. not that fears of Islamic terrorism or any other kind of terrorism are unfounded. Whaaa? What was that? You know, i'm getting tired of directors trying to mimic true originality by making their story more cooky. Stephen king, Wes Anderson, and m night shamalamading dong. All they keep doing is starting with a regular plot and getting it so wierd that it falls outside of normal human behaviour. Film school kids with pretentious black glasses applaud, I just look on and ask simply "just retire".

Yes, Harry wrote a book called "Ain't it cool?" back some years ago. To be honest I didn't know this either. I've been coming to this site for the longest time and had no clue. My girlfriend got me the book for my birthday and she didn't even know I go to this site. She just thought it would be something I'd like. She was dead on. Its a great book for movie lovers and a great read in general. Holy shit I sound like a plant.
The reason the trailer "gives everything away"...
by SubliminalJones
Oct 19th, 2007
09:24:39 PM
is probably because the marketing team figures that 98% of those who would go to see this have actually read the story and are familiar with all the big moments already. Of course, the fact that 3 out of 4 people in the United States haven't picked up an actual book in over a year puts this in the category of "arrogant presumption", which describes studio marketing people to a tee.

To anyone who watched the Homicide series, that black guy is Andre *Fucking* Brauer, one of the most talented and sadly underestimated and underused black actors working today. I can't say I know Stephen King's work all that well, but he's an author's author, and by that I mean he's the type of writer to inject layers of meaning and symbolism into his work to create something far more substantial than it looks on the surface.

Then again, it could be just giant bugs and the mist is what they fart.

which frankly Im tired of by now. How many stories has he wrote with a crazy religous freak in it, I mean I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little psycic girl who knew that they were all gonna die soon if they didn't do something soon. The guy re does himself so much its sickening, dont get me wrong hes one of the best horror minds of the 70's, 80's, and early 90's but everything of late has been a revisiting of his earlier work. I do however have faith in Darabont, and I know that he has a dark side to him. Hopefully this wont be watered down but I do have my doubts. As for those who say they give away too much in this trailer I'll have to agree, showing the images of the bug creatures was a little to much info for a trailer. I mean the movie is called "THE MIST" not "THE MIST WITH CREEPY CG BUGS FLYING AROUND IN IT" ....(that might sound picky but I dont give a fuck about this movie either way)

1.the mist cuts off customers and workers in a "costco" from the outside world - 2.the mist is evil and full of scary giant bugs and things that want to kill "us" - 3.the military (guy in uniform) is found responsible "we opened a window to another dimension" - 4.a bible nut incites the people in the store to sacrifice the main characters kid in order to make the evil go away 5.in an attempt to escape the human monsters inside the store the hero his kid and a few others make their way outside and confront the giant alien threat in the heart of the mist - i can guess the rest - or not - but why should i pay 12 bucks to see this now - the trailer kinda ruined it - the oversell is the studios way of begging for an audience - if they had just kept the creatures, military connection/responsibility, and crazy religious woman/enemy-within-the-group all secret the movie would have some "mist"ique - ill rent it though

This movie could use a pirate ghost. In fact, all movies need a pirate ghost. Imagine how fantastic Crash (race hate version) would have been with a pirate ghost. Thandie Newton's getting touched up by Rumblefish and then a pirate ghost just appears behind him, and taps him on the shoulder, and Rumblefish screams like a girl and runs off. That's how that shit should have rolled. Uh, anyway. The Mist, yeah? Looks okay. Smells a bit Dreamcatcher to me, though.

Why in the world are they making the military guys spell it all out? Next to the mounting tension, my second favorite aspect of the story was how ****SPOILER****their was just mystery and speculation behind the military facility and the Arrowhead Project and then the soldiers just went and hanged themselves in the back. And now they are explaining to the crowd that they opened up a window?

1)King's story, good, movie is nothing like it. 2)Andre Braugher, awesome under used actor who deserves plenty of awesome roles, but it will be hard for him to get anything better than what he brought to HLOTS. 3) This trailer sucks because except for the final body count it gives you the whole plot, and is nothing like the book. Even if this is a good movie, it gave it all away. 4)Hollywood has to stop killing the brothers, fight the power. 5)Did I forget anything?

Was a pretty good short story by my favorite author. The trailer gives too much away. I hate that, it makes me sad and blubbery. *reaches for comforting glass of Pepsi* Just about the only suspense left now is what happens to everybody else.
SPOILER ALERT FOR THE TRAILER!

Had to type it in caps. Marketing folk just assume everybody are stupid. This trailer is no different than most, showing you the entire three act structure in two minutes. The only surprise now is how creepy the things will be and i pray for little CGI.

book since I don't recall bugs per se. I guess I'll have to dig out my copy again, and do an old timerz checkup as was suggested. See guys, how easy it is to disagree, and not have to resort to name calling?
T.V movies should not be shown theatrically.

A preview that shows the talented Andre Braugher being the first one to die, and leaves it up to Thomas Jane who has'nt shined bright since "Boogie Nights", to carry the rest of the film! Are you serious? You can tell with the acting, and lazy effects that Darabont just took the job. Next.
It's just a serious Tremors but with mist and CG

I don't think there's anything special about King's short story. He's written countless better novellas/short stories, the best ones already being turned into flicks (Apt Pupil, Shawshank, Stand By Me). The Mist feels like King on autopilot. Maybe it's because it was written over 20 years ago and this kind of thing has been done to death since. I don't know. It should have been made 20 years ago when CG couldn't plague it.

The Mist was a fun read, and maybe the best able to be adapted to the screen, but damned if Skeleton Crew didn't pack some better horror punches.
The story didn't have "bugs", per se...

...they were described more as pinkish slug thingies with membranous wings and eyes on stalks. But I can live with more insect-like critters.
Why this is a GREAT trailer...

Cut just perfectly. For those complaining that it shows too much, it may, but consider their budget. If this one featured Cruise/Pitt/Smith, the media machine would be in full swing. We would have seen teasers for it a year ago, ad space would have been bought in Mags, and that exposure (with added luck and audience fickleness) would guarantee a hit. This movie has LOW (by Hollywood standards) budget, caters to a very small crowd (age group - rated "R") and has a tight deadline. From their perspective they need to get as many people in the seats as possible. The average Joe doesn't want what some of you want. Classy reveals just aren't going to galvanize someone's feelings, but a "Holy Shit - did you just see... oh my Gawd that tentacle pulled that ki... how the Hell did those people make it ou... what happened to the people in the stor... (leading to the inevitable) ... I have GOT to see this movie!!!" Throw in a government man's explanation of where the fog comes from, so as not to be confused with (the recent and crappy) The Fog as well. The trailer gives enough without giving too much (only those freezing Quicktime can sorta make out some creatures - not the general public). Personally my only trepidation at this stage is that the creature design looks horrible. Effects might have been smoothed out (great), but the besic design of the creatures so far (except the tentacle which you can't screw up) have been kinda grade-schoolish. Those bugs with boots on the glass look like toys, the "winged creature" in the store looks like a bald parrot/bat mix, and from what I can make out of the spiders (freezing trailer) they don't look very menacing. These are creatures from ANOTHER DIMENSION, and should look nothing like what we're used to. Those crab guards in The Dark Crystal, as well as the stilt creatures are an example of fantastic creature design. This may end up being a small gripe, but we'll have to see on opening night.

I'm glad regular Darabont cast member Jeffrey DeMunn is in it too, he's very understated in Darabont's movies but very good nonetheless.

No, I'm sure they are not so ignorant and dumb as to spell "dimension" the way you did, several times. And Spamster, The Mist was written 20 years ago ('86), so Half-Life borrowed from this.
