Can we all just agree that YouTube is the largest compendium of useless crap ever foisted on the internet? Every video is grainy, dark, with colors bleeding and sound distortions. I try to avoid it whenever possible, but even in casual surfing, I am assaulted with those big black boxes with links to some supposedly heart-stopping 30 second clip of - let's face it - total crap.

Applause track?

Oh man that's bloody ridiculous, in a hilarious way. But what I want to know is, what's the name of that "applause" track they use for every single bloody crowd-bursting-into-applause scene? Of course I can't describe it--how does one describe applause?--but does ANYone know what I mean? I know they used it in CLERKS the series. The damn track drives me crazy and always takes me out of the story.

I also remember that the show 'Taxi' had this really weird audience member, where there was always this one guy with a weird laugh that went something like, "Hawwwwwww.. . . . hawwwwwww. . . .hawwwwwwww. . . . hawwwww" Weird. They actually keep moles in studio audiences, so there's one, or a few, fake laughers to get people to follow the herd and laugh as well.

The only thing I can specifically remember it from right now is from the Earthworm Jim game on Sega Genesis, but it's been EVERYWHERE. All this time I had it confused with the wrong one? Did Lucas actually allow them to use that clip, despite years of swearing he'd like to see every bootleg copy of that show destroyed? Does this mean we will soon be seeing The Star Wars Holiday Special "Special Edition" 2- disc dvd, with brand new musical number between Jar-Jar and Bea Arthur? Oh, the horror.

I'm familiar with that one. It's a longer scream that's usually used when a guy is falling off a cliff, since it fades off at the end. I've heard it a million times. I don't think I've ever really noticed the Wilhelm scream all this time, since I thought this other one was it.

That one is wayyy more noticable, fake, and shitty. I mainly notice it because it was used in one of the Dark Forces games whenever you fell off a cliff, and since then it sticks out like a sore thumb. It's way way way overused and whenever I hear it it rips me out of whatever film I'm in and places me right in the editing bay watching some shit director scramble to throw in a death scream at the eleventh hour.

The Dark Forces scream! I always notice that one too. I think the first time I heard it re-used was in Broken Arrow when some guy gets thrown off a train as it crosses a bridge.

Also, speaking of re-used sound effects let's not forget the noise of doors opening/closing in Doom that turns up all over the place.

There's also a really cheesy scraping noise that gets re-used loads too, usually whenever a cell door or old gate is opened.

Anyone else remember where else this scream was used? Does it have a nickname like the Wilhelm, too?
