9 out of 10 times I'm against horror remakes, especially if it's one that I particularly enjoy in its original state, but Hellraiser looks ridiculously dated if you watch it today. I like the wetness of the gore, and cgi certainly can't replicate that, but a blend of practical effects and cgi, can create something better than the original film which looks incredibly amateurish by today's standards. And that bone dragon thing at the end? If you don't think Hellraiser looks dated, you probably haven't seen it since its original theatrical run.

I have been a huge fan of Clive's work for many, many years. I remember when he first hit the scene with Books of Blood and his debut movie Hellraiser. He was 34-35, young, good-looking and incredibly articulate about the genre. He was, and still is, a BIG hero of mine. But in every interview he's given in, say, the last 4-5 years, his voice has concerned me. He sounds like a man who has a serious throat condition, but I don't know whether it's the cigars he's been smoking or something else. But surely he can't be that ill, otherwise he wouldn't be doing tour after tour, and promoting his new novel and new next gen console game' Jericho'. I pray to god (and I mean that) that Clive is with us for many, many years. P.S. The remake could be amazing. I'll watch it's development with interest.

that cheap feel was a GIANT part to me of why it was scary in the first place. all those lumpy, half assed monsters at the end, yeah they might not look like the t-rex in jurassic park or fucking Gollum but they still frightened the ever living shit out of me a few years ago when i saw it on dvd. because trying to make them look 'real' wasn't the point, trying to make them look disturbing and scary was; they didn't have 'realism' to fall back on and had to go for more of a visceral psychological angle. if anyone can name me a CGI-effects-using horror movie that is actually scary and not just random and/or fucked up (i am thinking of SILENT HILL when i say that, awesome sure but not scary per se) i would thank them for it....i guess WHAT LIES BENEATH is one?

there's actually a story on here concerning the horror world. Ive always thought this site needs a writer that's competely dedicated to the genre. INSIDE was definitely disturbing since essentially youre watching a pair of scissors going after a pregnant woman through much of the film. Great gore not just the cheap gimmick of bloody water being splashed against walls like in most low budget flicks (Im looking at you wrong turn 2). Its one of those movies that is almost too intense which was a great surprise to me since I thought I could sit through anything. Great choice for the remake. Is Barker still involved? By the way, I respect all of you.

You can say what you want about Hellraiser, but it is one of the most inventive pieces of horror ever to hit the screen. It may be my favorite horror movie of all time..well..next to Dream Warriors..but whatever. It can't be remade, it will lose that eerieness the first one had. The second one ws also great in my opinion. I think they will make the mistake that Hellraiser 3-99 have made. Damn that header limit ta hell! ;-) BTB: I'm an ardent fan of Matheson's work, from what I've seen of 'Legend' so far I think it's going to jetison the most significant psychological and emotional aspects of Mathesons book in pandering to Smith's Ego and the limited vision of Shitseltown in packing in the quota of gratuitous set-pieces and action. It would take a more cerebrally inclined director free of market constraints to truly do justice to Matheson's classic. Del Torro will set the standard with his adaptation of Mountains of Madness as to how a classic piece of literary fiction should be adapted.

Stephen Spielberg has just announced that after Indiana Jones 4, he will remake all the star wars prequel trilogy using only late 70's-early 80's technology. George Lucas will pay for it but have nothing to really say about the creative side.

However I did like Hell on Earth mainly due to Bradley's perormance as both Pinhead and his alter ego Capt. Spencer. But the idea of a news reporter taking on 5 Cenobites was retarded. (The camera ceno would have pureed her ass with one focused shot. "say cheese bitch"!) The forth installment..had potentual but I wrote it off as "Pinhead in spaaaaaacceeeee.." Then the franchise went way down from there. The production reeked of a skinemax flick and Doug got...older. I also noticed the disturbing sound of Barker's voice..not good at all, hopefully he's alright. Anyway can't wait for Jericho as it will kick all the other FPS this month.

The hellraiser series has fallen deep into disrepair. Deep pathetic disrepair. I applaud an effort to do a better one. But there isn't any reason not to do a new movie, better than the last 4 or 5.

Creatively, this is a useless remake. The first one is definitely not dated in acting quality, style, or technical quality - the special effects still hold up, which would be the main reason I'd even consider remaking this type of movie. So why remake this at all? Does anyone think they can do better than the original? I sure don't.

the whole reason hellraisr is so famous is because of the crazy visuals that were handled in a completely serious manner(which is why the movie was so believable) and the extreme subject matter. I mean its like they're trying to improve the film when theres no need to do so, I dont give a shit about the crappy cube banishing effect at the end, thats not the important thing about hellraiser and if you cant look past that you know nothing about horror films. This is all about money, theres no way they can think that they can make a more effective film, even the french guys, they know they have no business touching this movie but they're trying to make it in the film industry they're not gonna turn this down. I really do damn michael bay to hell for remaking TCM (which was the most god awful piece of garbage ever) and starting this horror remake fad which hopefully will dry up soon

Their is no way a re-make could be better! Yes, a re-make could make good use of "state of the art" CG. Yes, (maybe) they could show us something bloody we don't quite expect... But as "ClockWorker" points out, that which makes "Hellraiser" such a great movie can NOT be redone. The serious presentation (direction/production) of the story sets the perfect mood for this movie. This movie was made at a time when horror was treated with a "tongue-in-cheek" attitude...and their is no way that you could capture the vision of what they where trying to do... Maybe the acting could be better, and maybe the editing could have set a better pace (it does drag in parts)...but none of that really matters when you talk/think about how great this movie is. And NONE of that will be taken in to account in making the re-make (I'm sure)... ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY $$$$

1 they were made before the year 2000 when mainstream film GENERALLY started to lose its way (god i miss the 80s). See The Fly, The Thing, and, err, thats about it! 2 when they were remakes OF OLD OLD FILMS!!! See the Fly, The thing etc! Now remakes are of films no more than 20 years old. Hellraiser is still fresh in my mind and doesnt need redoing! Dawn of the Dead was perfect due to the duff make up on the zombies (still my fave film though), but it was made after 2000 you see so no chance of that coming off. Err.....GRRR!
