The only good thing about this show is Katee Sackhoff and she should have been cast as the lead (and waited until Battlestar was done, taking the extra time to make the scripts better). The show just reeks of being rushed, which is too bad, as there isn't a lot of good sci-fi on TV.

Is the only one who seems to be taking the show seriously. She is the best thing about the show. And no I am not a Battlestar fan boy. I have never even seen one episode of the show. (I know I heard I am missing out big time). Anyway for the show to work you need a charismatic lead. And Michelle Ryan is not charismatic. She also doesn't deliver her lines with any sort of spark. They are always flat. And am I the only one who notices how one moment she is semi cute, then the next she looks big as a house? She has beautiful eyes and a nice rack, but she looks like she has a double chin sometimes. She should get on a bionic treadmill because sometimes she looks really out of shape. When women like Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel are proudly walking around being the postergirls for athletic and healthy women, if you cast a woman who is supposed to be The Bionic Woman, she should be in top shape. Remember that show where that dude had John Goodman's brain? I forget the name of the show, but at any event, the guy who was supposed to be the bionic body was in crazy shape.

Like I said previously, I am unfamiliar with Sackhoff's previous work. So I don't think she is the second coming of Jesus just because I am a Battlestar fanatic. But on this show she is good. And if she is 2 dimensional, what do you consider Ryan? I see some hope with Isaiah Washington joining the team. He's a talented actor. In the end people can continue to make excuses for the show. But by the 3rd episode we should all be hooked, not talking about how it STILL needs work. I won't deny that it has tons of promise. But all this backstage drama coupled with the fact that Ryan is not ready to carry her own show spells doom down the line. NBC won't outright cancel it because they invested too much. But it better shape up soon.

It could be better, but it's not bad. I really thought they were setting the boyfriend up to be a bad guy with all the cryptic dialogue and the effort put into establishing his "secret agent" interest in Jaime, but then he up and dies and she barely sheds one tear. She also seems to be a little TOO excited (and I don't mean in the "I'm going to kick your ass kind of way, either) about fighting Sarah, you know, the woman who just shot her boyfriend in the shoulder. And since when does a person die from a shoulder wound? Reading all the behind-the-scenes stuff makes me think the show won't be around for more than 1 season, and that's too bad...

You mustn't have gotten the exchange on the rooftop in the first episode... the bad bionic woman was replacing her parts and felt less human, felt like she wasn't in control (or someone was controlling her)... the good bionic woman wants to be More human - so why would she go around replacing her limbs? The part that annoyed me more was in the second episode when they were giving her a work out, and she was doing one armed pull-ups - wouldn't they want to work out her non-bionic arm more, so she had strength there as well? I liked Now and Again, and Jake 2.0, and all in all this is feeling too familiar this time around - they really need to do something big to take this out of "run of the mill" country, stat.

First of all, she's a bartender not a superspy (like Garner in Alias) or a veteran Bionic Woman (Sackhoff) so her body is indicative of that. If the show survives she will surely get in better shape - if only because of the necessary workouts that come along with playing that type of role. And the character is just coming out of her shell physically and mentally. Finally, the show itself is not LOST or BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - OK I GET THAT. This is much more of a straight-ahead action drama (most people might even call it junk) that has more in common with shows like AUTOMAN or MANIMAL so enjoy it for that or stop watching.

It's almost impossible to fuck up a show like this: Stylish, potentially interesting plots, hot actresses .... yet somehow they are fucking it up. It's amazing. I could turn this show around in 2 episodes. Bring me in to write a two episode arc where Sarah Corvus, to get back at the agency and Jamie Sommers (who she feels stole her role), seduces Jamie's rebellious and unruly little sister. Jamie walks in on Sarah using her bionic tongue on lil sis, and they engage in a hellacious bionic fight in the nude. As the two of them battle to a draw, lil sis convinces them that they shouldn't be fighting - they should be sharing. The ladies then engage in a massive bionic lesbo orgy. OUILA. Highest ratings in network history.

The rights to Martin Caidin's "Cyborg" (on which the SMDM pilot was based) is held by Dimension I believe, and for whatever reason they won't deal so SMDM is in a limbo. Kenneth Johnson's website has an enigmatic mention (http://tinyurl.com/2acdeu). Oscar didn't appear until "Wine Women and War", the second of the 3 TV movies that preceded Steve Austin getting a weekly series. Not sure if Darren McGavin's "Oliver Spencer" is in Caidin's novel, or if Oscar is in the sequel novel (also by Caidin) that WW&W is based on. Long and short: any elements from early in the bionic lineage, including Steve, are going to be absent pending resolution of the literary rights. Ditto DVD's of both SMDM and BW (1970s vers). UK and region-free fans are in luck; for me I can't bear the PAL pitch shift, sounds like Steve got a replacement part that wasn't better or stronger, just faster. YMMV.

Well to make up for jinxing with JamieCOTC95 my thoughts on the new show. The new Bionic has a problem with cool - and it's not what you think. The writers/producers are trying too hard to make this thing hip and witty; when you succed with that it's great but when it duds it's painful. I felt last week was a big boost from the pilot, which felt really unfocused. Sadly, with the changes is staffing I don't feel I can make up my mind about the direction of the show until we hit the shows that represent the final (for now, heh) mix. While I think Bledsoe's people could be a great source of intrigue given that it's a private group that operates without government oversight, I fear that Morgan's departure indicates a lack of intestinal fortitude for that path higher up the food chain. #1 reason why Galactica can rock: SciFi keeps it's meat hooks OFF. They know they don't know Kung-fu. NBC has a longer path to enlightenment. It may be Eich himself, I shouldn't point fingers. I liked last week and am looking forward to tonight, but I fear this show's weak pilot is not the outlier. Merits: good action moments, as in the car crash, Jamie tossing her BF across the room, and the Katie fight (pilot). Strong ideas: the "demo", sticking with the cover (Dept of Agriculture) That Jamie was being cased prior to the accident, that she's weak in a fight unless she brings in the bionic hook, that the organization manipulates her without compunction (check out Oscar's first couple of outings in SMDM for an eye-opener on his "morality"). Ep2's musical interludes actually worked, vs the ham-handed execution in the pilot. Love how the "bionic sounds" are sublimated into the score. Michelle Ryan is emergent, patience will pay off. Agree she should have worked out her natural arm but.. did they do a shoulder replacement? If not, that shoulder is THE weak link and must become buff yesterday if she's to get any mileage out of the arm.. if we take any of this seriously, lol! Of course, Miguel Ferrer could dust off an old script and say: "I thought we agreed on full limb prosthesis?!! Lose the arm!". Just got my BluRay copy today, double cyborg feature Wednesday is here! I work for Dick Jones!!!

even though it's written by eick. it's making no fucking sense, sarah tells jaimie to come alone to the sulfur plant not fifteen seconds after pointing out the camera in jaimie's eye. wtf? and that dude from the beginning? what was up with that? if he gets away there will be mass casulaties, but he decided to stop for some fucking lunch? and jaimie assaults him and leaves him unconscious in his car... wouldn't someone see any of this? it's little shit like this, that in a better show i would let slide, but it bugs the hell out of me because the show is so poorly crafted. also, it kinda feels like random scenes have been edited together to make up that first act. ...sigh...

I watched the first and second episodes of "Bionic Woman" and boy am I... underwhelmed. Seriously, I know it's gotten good ratings, but that's it? Ryan, while cute and amply bosomed, doesn't pull off the part as well it could be pulled off. Sackhoff is the reason to watch this show. And that's mostly due to the writing. Ryan is a quality actress who puts everything she has into the role, but she's just not as compelling as, say, Sydney Bristow. The show's writing is the reason for this, not Ryan's ability, in my opinion. But if "Bionic Woman" keeps getting high ratings like the first two weeks, my opinion won't fucking matter anyway. Yay!

what they were thinking this show should be about when they were tossing out ideas.... I'm glad there's a new guy running the ship. I know things might change radically now but here's my two cents for what they've aired so far. First, and most importantly, they need to make a show that's going to be worth our while. And that means less of this Gilmore Girls, sister relationship stuff. There was way too much screen time devoted to the sister bonding. That's what the Lifetime channel is for. Showing Sommers' human, grounded, personal side shouldn't require nearly as much effort as this. If they want to impress us, and keep/grow an audience, they need to think big. Real BIG. BIG is the only thing that's going to be worth our while and make us exited to tune in every week. This show is about a woman with bionic implants that costs $50M+ And she's the second such woman. And she “works” for some ultra super secret agency that has the funding and resources to 1. research and develop this technology 2. successfully create two (or possibly more) bionic beings. Now the logical assumption we'd have of such an organization is to tackle the big, tough assignments. That whole baby sitting storyline was silly. Not to mention Small. Unworthy. Babysitting a brat is an episode of Growing Pains or Family Ties. This organization should be fighting the type of adversaries (note “adversaries” plural) that no other agency would be capable of handling. That's the whole purpose of creating a super secret agency. Baby sitting and fighting some Eastern European Goons in a nail salon is for the FBI or maybe the Martials or whatever. Just not a secret organization. And these need to be worthy adversaries. More powerful/capable. A hero (ie Sommers) fighting a lesser/weaker opponent is just not worth our viewing time. And no, the adversaries don't have to be bionic or clinically insane, just worthy. The organization also needs to be run by a guy (or gal) who has a level head, who commands respect and loyalty, who can make difficult calls fighting these super enemies and manage an unlimited sized budget. I like Miguel Ferrer but he's playing his character more like a stressed out project manager at a fortune 500 company. The head of this type of organization would be confronted with so many rich conflicts and story lines which would give his character depth and make him a worthy mentor-ish figure to Sommers (thus building some much needed character relationships that don't involve sisters). There are all sorts of complex consequences for a man in that type of position.... He could be such a great character. And what's with the low budget look of this place? Why don't they give this super secret agency a nice super, secret, “well furnished with our tax dollars” office? Now on to Starbuck. It's clear Starbuck is a great asset and brings a lot to every scene. But this “let's be friends and help me live” story line needs to wrap up quick. It's a good idea but it's not something worth devoting an entire episode. let alone two. It actually might make a good minor side story but it doesn't deserve more air time then that. Starbuck's character is so versatile and can be used in so many different ways. There's some good Starbuck/Sommers conflict/relationship potential brewing there, I'd hate to see it wasted on something conventional or sappy. She'd make a good lone wolf. The Asian martial arts man is a good character to have. The hero always needs a support team to help out. But he's too tame. Not credible as the head ass-kicking guy of a super secret organization or someone who's going to help Sommers in a pinch. There's tons of stuff that can be done with his character to give him depth too. They also need to show progress. Relationships, characters, stories. Big forward momentum makes us want to see where the momentum is going. We get that the Asian guy can kick Jamie's butt. We get it. No need to repeat it. That's wasted screen time. Finally, NBC needs to give the show more money for s/fx. You can't have a show called “Bionic Woman” with bionic effects that are....whew.... let's just say the show from the 70's had more credible effects. Good effects are critical. Anyway, good luck to the new team. Please make this show worth our while.

Okay, the Bionic Woman actress is not what we're used to seeing on television but none of you geeks can't tell me you wouldn't want to give her the bionic refill in a single parsec. My issue with the show is the writing. Its just plain terrible. The fact that they seem to be cleaning house is promising. The show's got a great look, interesting actors... now all they need is dialogue that doesn't sound like it was written in rush or puked on by Ed Wood.

I don't know how many others around here will fall into my age group, but I'm willing to bet that I'm one of the older geeks around here since I can actually remember watching on ABC the original "Movie of the Week" test pilot premiere for THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN when it first aired. And let me tell you something, literally DECADES later I can still remember being a little kid and watching it and saying "Holy crap! This is the coolest thing ever!" as Lee Majors went ballistic and into action and utilized his bionics. And that's the problem with BIONIC WOMAN. Flashback: from decades ago, I can still remember Majors in the climax of that pilot having to take on some bad guys in the desert, where at one point he uses his bionic arm to rip off the top of a tank. Flash forward to BIONIC WOMAN and tonight's episode: while confronting a bad guy in the opening, Jamie uses her incredible strength...to push down a power window on a car. Wow! Talk about incredible! Talk about top notch production values! Now that's some serious kick ass bionic scope and scale that will keep the viewers tuned in! (Insert mocking Rodney Dangerfield eye roll here...) The truth is this show is just not fun in a "bionic" sense. I think anyone who truly was a fan of the the old Lee Majors/Lindsay Wagner runs is looking at this and going "What the fuck is this? Who the fuck cares about a bartender and her bratty sister?" Oh...and that is another cut that should be made. If the writing staff on BIONIC had any balls they WOULD have let Katie snack little sister's neck tonight just to add some real weight to things. Not to mention the kid sister is truly the most vomit inducing actress and total brat and TV cliche going. Seriously, you think you're going to endear yourself to middle America viewers with a brat teen who whines about someone not buying her a pair of $175 jeans, at which point to prove she loves her Jamie forks over her credit card? Seriously, Jamie herself should have snapped her little bitch sister's neck for such a ridiculous thing. And that's the problem -- these characters are just flat out UNLIKEABLE. Will is introduced and dies in one episode...Washington is only signed to do 5 episodes...Ferrer is coasting on the fact that geeks at least like him...the little sister is a TOTAL waste and cliche... ...And worse of all, for 3 straight weeks your lead has been COMPLETELY upstaged and outshined by the guest actress. Truth be told, Michelle Ryan, sad to say, just has ZERO star power as a lead. And I do agree with others -- whether you want to blame it on the direction or camera crew, she fucking looks "ok" one minute and then as Mr. Profit noted above she suddenly looks as big as fucking house. And don't hand me that bullshit defense line that someone used above that "Oh, you don't know what REAL women are like! She has curves! Not like Garner who was a stick or looked like a man!" Screw that crap -- Jennifer Garner looked ATHLETIC in a role that demanded an ATHLETIC person. In all the training scenes Ryan doesn't look fit or athletic. But she does look like she just came from testing ALL 31 flavors at Baskin & Robbins. I'd say this show needs an overall but I think it's already too late. After the 30% drop off after the premiere, it will be interesting to see how tonight's show faired in the ratings, but this show is so God awful at this point that I bet it could actually be gone by mid-season and not even make it a full year. For NBC it is this year's SURFACE. And like I said at the start, the truly sad part here...the part that should get people fired...is that you had this handed to you on a silver platter. Geeks and audiences were ready for a revamp of the bionic franchises, but they REALLY dropped the ball here by being totally underwhelming with the bionics and everything else. Frankly, so far BIONIC WOMAN is a pure case study in how NOT to do a reimagining or revamp.

I got pretty excited when I saw a "consulting producer" credit for Darin Morgan on the episode last week. That's a pretty obscure sort of credit, but just the chance that he might write a script for the show was something to look forward to. Darin Morgan has only a few credits, pretty much just a few X-Files and Millenniums, but on those alone he should be thought of as one of TV's coolest writers, and certainly deserves to have more work out there.

She was promised the lead and instead she got the least interesting character on the show. It's not her fault. With all the changes in the writing staff the lead character is bound to take the worst hits. They don't know what they want the series to be and they don't seem to know what they want Jamie to be. Katie Sackoff and that Asian guy seem to have been left to develop their eown story being supporting. Or that part of the script as left unmolested beng a B-plot. As a result their relationship is the most interesting thing about the show. It's kind of a weird situation. If a steady hand of a talented writer/producer got hold of this there would be ore screen time given to that reationship and Jamie's story would be given something of equal substance and then we really would see what kind of acting Ryan's capable of.

It hasn't been great, but there has been some interesting build up. I think the biggest trouble with the first two episodes felt rushed. It's almost like they writers were convinced they would not get to finish their story, so they tried to rush through everything as fast as they could. Basically, instead of making a novel they cut out a lot of the character dev and wrote a short story. Last nights episode didn't give me that feeling, so maybe they're going to start turning things around. I do agree the little sister angle is a bit of an albatross around the shows neck. I wonder how long it will be before sis gets pulled into the secret facility a la Mary Jane and Aunt May in New Avengers before Civil War. Because then we could get some GREAT scenes of bratty kid terrorizing people in the headquarters. /eye roll

OK, first off Michelle you are hot. DO NOT listen to these jerks, develop some muscle tone for the character but ignore calls to go down the Lindsey Lohan anorexia express. Michelle has bone structure that's wide and doesn't photograph well from certain angles and no change in weight is going to effect that. She's still hot. On to the "jump the shark" perspective: I remember in the second hour of Star Trek TNG's pilot "Encounter at Farpoint" Deanna saying "A feeling of great joy.. and gratitude!" the show jumped the shark in it's pilot episode. I watched a couple more but threw in the towel before season one was over. Ditto DS9 - oh wait, I tuned in years later and both shows turned out to be great! Hmm, "jump the shark" is defined as a moment where a show loses all the credibility it has built in a single moment of absurdity... so you can't "jump the shark" until you've got said credibility! I sense a need in a lot of folks here to judge this show and frankly, until season 2 we really don't know where this is going. I still find it hard to watch first season TNG or DS9, both shows I dig generally. Much of what we're seeing is laying track for later. I'm not saying it's a good thing that there's been flatulence in the BW writing room, but some perspective helps. I've been watching the first season of SMDM, and it's filled with plot holes and sillyness. It's real saving grace was wit: "How'd you do that?" " I eat alot of jumpin' beans." LOL! Sound familiar? Bionic Woman is creating it's broader mythology now. If it can hang on to it's audience, it'll get it's sea legs. On the "Lifetime" quips: yeah, it does pander to the females in the audience - shocker! Heaven forbid you would make a scifi show with a female lead and not pander exclusively to male geeks! If suffering through some female bonding improves the ratings and gets me some weekly scifi on NBC, I'll suffer it. Star Trek IV was watered down (get it?) as Trek but appealed to a wider audience so TNG became possible. Sacrifices must be made.

First off, I don't hate this show as much as others. I still think it has potential to turn it around. What the mistake of the show runners is to up the "realism". Instead of throwing Jamie into exciting esponaige, they are following logic that her not having any spy training that she needs to be eased into the spy game. It can make for some tedious TV though. I expect the adventures to become more exciting and intertwined. I think there is enough here that if they start to pull it together, it can be a good show. But they need to kick the show into gear a bit soon. I will give it a few more episodes. As for the original series, the original Bionic Woman was utter trash. The Six Million Dollar Man was great for it's time, but Bionic Woman sucked. In the pilot episode, one of Jamie's biggest display of bionic powers was to tear a telephone book twice to impress her class of students. Wooooo! This is why it was cancelled after one year runs on two different networks. Personally, I was a little surprised that this was the remake Eicks wanted to tackle next since the source material was so bad. If it wasn't for the BSG, I would never even have given it a shot. I think this remake is better than the original, but that ain't much of a compliment.

With the exception of BSG (33 is one of my all time favorites BSG episodes still), all SF series suffer severe first season growing pains. Some overcome it quickly, some take the entire season to become good and many never do. Each episode has been better then the previous (though I still stand with the "make Sarah the main character" crowd) so maybe it may yet find its legs. The writing is by far the weakest link and possibly the most easily corrected. A good writer would have had Sarah kill Becca, thus setting up a reason for the ongoing conflict between the two Bionic Women. We all know Joss Whedon would have.

Your statement is correct, Ejkbou -- well, assuming you meant that like the rest of America you're quickly changing the channel or turning off the TV. Hate to break this to you, buddy, but here's the real ratings story for BIONIC. It lost a whopping 30% of its audience for week 2, and now the ratings for week 3 are down yet again by another 5-7%. Assuming week 4 goes the same, you're talking that 40%...nearly HALF the people who watched the premiere...will have ALREADY given up on this show. Needless to say, that's not exactly something to crow about. I said it above and I'll say it again. They need to fix this show and fix it FAST or else it will be this year's SURFACE for NBC and be a one season thing, otherwise it could keep dropping week to week and be gone by midseason.
