by Napoleon Park
Oct 6th, 2007

because they couldn't get the rights to the comic book series "The Oz Squad" because that was pretty cool.

So was the synthesizer concept album "The Wozard of Iz"

So were Eric Shanhower's beautifully illustrated Oz graphic novels.

And Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie's "Lost Girls" with Dorothy, Alice and Wendy.

Not to mention The Wiz.

And Star Wars. (Picture Chewie as the Lion and C3PO as the tin Man, with Luke singing "we're off to see Darth Vader...").

Sure, updating OZ might be a fun idea, but really, it's kinda been done.

the character looks look uninspired, the cgi looks bland, the "lost in oz" show that never got aired was deffinately a better approach. i realize people who think it looks good are really stretching to find something good about this because they want a good adaption of these books done for the modern era, in a series that they can look forward to for a while, but if you step back and forget your "girlfriend" zooey is in it, or whatever other reason you're holding onto it so dealy, and take a good look, you'll realize it isn't.

I'm talking about is expanding the story, not just rehashing the first book. L. Frank Baum wrote something like fifteen books, not all of them starring Dorothy, and I'm sure someone can figure a way to get them right on screen, much like Return to Oz. It would be like people making different versions of the first Harry Potter film and ignoring the sequels.

"the O.Z." = "the OC"

and IamMrMonkey!,

http://tinyurl.com/2kt7rc

In the books, the origins of the character are rather gruesome. Originally an ordinary man by the name of Nick Chopper.

, the Tin Woodman used to make his living chopping down trees in the forests of Oz. The Wicked Witch of the East enchanted his axe to prevent him from marrying the girl that he loved.

The enchanted axe chopped off his limbs, one by one. Each time he lost a limb, Nick Chopper replaced it with a prosthetic limb made of tin. Finally, nothing was left of him but tin.

loooks like they'll use the "unable to feel love" staple, i.e.; reese in the terminator

logan in xmen.
