One - FOX never aired the first episode. You know, the one that introduces all the characters. How well would Lost, or Heroes, or any other episodic series do if the characters weren't introduced and established?

Two - FOX did not show the episodes in order. Unforgiveable. I was lukewarm on the series and bought it on DVD due to my OCD, and to my surprise it was great. Engaging, with characters you cared about almost immediately. It really does help a show when the dicks running the network are behind it.

Bring on a sequel in any form, says I.

Although the movie was fantastic, I agree that it was missing the best elements of the show, especially the camaraderie of the crew - everybody seemed so snarky and mean to each other, I didn't get the sense of surrogate family from the show.

I'm all for a direct to dvd, as long as they don't pull another Highlander:The Source and drive the franchise into the ground. That was one of the few cases where I could easily see exactly which mistakes were made and how they could have fixed them.

But since BSG TOS far preceded SAAB, I don't think you can make a case for SAAB as the inspiration for anything more than look and feel.

Didn't TOS precede Star Wars, too? It was long ago, in a land far away, but I seem to remember watching TOS at home as a kid, and SW came out while I was in college. So SW cannot be the inspiration, either....

On a Friday: "It may be a while before I can get these back to you, is that okay?"

On the following Monday: "Done! WOW! Started watching and could not stop!"

I keep my mouth shut about everything else, but Whedonites tend to GET IN YOUR FACE and question WHY you don't like what they like, and they Talk About It Incessantly. They try to convert. They're the type of people who will make an attempt to sit you down in front of a TV and badger you into watching the first season of Buffy, or the entire run of Firefly, in an attempt to get you to join their weird cult. If you say "I don't like Buffy" they instantly come back and question how many episodes you've seen, which season, and what your state of mind was when you watched them. In short, they come off like mentally retarded Jehovah's Witnesses, except that in place of "Jehovah" there's "Joss" and in place of Jesus there's "Buffy".

But they'd probably go door-to-door if they could.

Same thing applies to anime/manga fans (primarily the ones who ONLY watch/read Japanese stuff and wouldn't consider watching/reading something western) and of course, to Christians.

I would also consider throwing "Jugallos" on the list, but frankly there are enough of them, and they're stupid enough not to matter.

Pretty soon you'll want us to have our own SCHOOLS!!

(a) Book used to be an Operative. fairly easy to come up with that, and could work

(b) Much More Intriguing (to me anyway) was the theory that Book might have been, under another name, an Alliance General in the Battle of Serenity Valley. It, too, changed his life just like it changed Mal's. Mal lost his faith (remember in the early scenes Mal kissing a crucifix before he went out to take the gun emplacement?), and Book found his faith. Book seeing the name Serenity on the hull was what drew him to join them.

What say you?

Inara's backstory is of interest, too, but probably not an entire film's worth there to tell. Could be dovetailed into a film that gives us the Book Story we need.

Also, think about the what the state of the 'verse would be for the sequel. If the 'Signal' had any impact it all, it would have destabilized things even further. The Alliance might have to crack down more and become even more despotic, or there might be even more dissension in the ranks. Would it lead to another civil war? Will the Browncoats regroup? Will there be another battle of Serenity Valley? The possibilities are endless. Also, even though the two 'blue hands' guys did die in the comic, River's statement was 'two by two, hands of blue,' indicating that there were more than just two of them. And we never found out exactly who they were, why their hands were blue, who they were answerable to, etc. Joss has said that the Blue Sun thing was a story he was holding to for the future. So maybe there's something there as well.

Finally Ribbons, amen brother. We don't always agree but you usually make sense. I also think that the 'obnoxious Browncoats' thing is an urban legend made up by Whedonhaters. You always hear these trolls like Zerocorpse and Kai justify their assholery by saying 'But the Whedon fans have driven me to it. They're always in my face, blah blah. I have no control over my trolling behavior' - when it's usually the Whedon fans who are nice, polite, and open to dialogue and certainly willing to critique some of the shortcomings of Whedon's stuff, because they have high standards. And it's always the trolls that have weak arguments, are rude and insulting and are the in-the-face getters. Are some Whedon fans obnoxious? Sure, like any fan group, there's going to be some idiots. But the overwhelming evidence is that those types are in the minority, at least here.

And, oh yeah.

I think I heard or read something by Joss, where he said he had to get 12+ hours of story arc edited down into one film.

finally, I cannot take credit for either theory--though the Operative one seems to spring up from several sources simultaneously , so it is more "generic". The Alliance General theory came from someone else in a forum long ago and far away, whose handle I cannot recall.

Quite a few pictures don't become profitable until they show up in Blockbuster. Then there's stuff like 'Office Space' which did $2million at the box office but over $100million in Dvd sales/rentals. The Digital Versatile Disc saved Hollywood...or so they say.

When the CE DVD of Serentity came out, Harry was on his honeymoon and was taking a hiatus from his weekly DVD reviews. Herc, by the grace of rumour and multiple emails, was able to post an article with not one, but TWO links to purchase the DVDs. He purposely fucks up the interaptation of said article so people will post on the talkback telling him so, ergo raising the number of posts on the talkback and giving more advertising to the links he posted.

Herc knows the score. He is like the Micheal Scott of Coaxial.w

The concept was flawless, though IMO. You have a mercenary cowboy/smuggler and his posse, a high-class whore, and a person that remians a mystery but still seems to fit in, and it's in space. With lasers and space battles and what-not.

How could they go wrong?
