Where's the Smallville Talkback? I thought surely with this week's big reveals we'd get some kind of a forum going on

What!? Last season of Survivor was arguably one of it's best. Yaoman? Earl? Dreamz? Rocky? C'mon now, NO ONE in the new cast is even remotely as interesting as any of those guys.
Come on people, start watching Supernatural.

Yes, I've been trying to catch up with this show and last night's episode was great. Roger had another heart attack, Don's wife got her rocks off on a washing machine, and Joan looked DYNAMITE as usual. So, where's the MAD MEN TALKBACK?!

Watching him tell Joan that she was "the finest piece of ass" he's ever had in his life made me laugh out loud. He was so sincere but it sounded so wrong.

Supposedly, the show has been picked up for a second season. Which means, we'll get more great lines like "Everytime a door closes, God opens a dress."

But other than that it was an, as usual, fantastic episode. Also, Joan is the hottest woman ever to appear on my television set.

Advertisers don't give a shit about viewers over 49, which is why viewers 50 and older can't keep your favorite shows on the air. That's why TV Week (and everybody else) doesn't really give a shit about "overall viewers."

49, and most certainly 65 and over are generally very tight with money. 65 and over are mostly fixed incomes. Late 20's and 30's spend, spend, spend.

I buy the season sets every year and the whole family just eats it up. Far better than I ever thought it would be considering McG's involvement.

Advertisers don't cater to viewers over 45 because they have pretty much decided which products they like (soap, toilet paper etc) and so it is hard to get them to switch to whatever the ad is selling you. 18-30 year olds, on the other hand, are just starting out and can be tempted to try various brands before buying. The caveat to all this is that on shows that skew older you see a lot of ads for expensive cars because the old folks they got the money.

Even in a weak year, Survivor still rocks. This year I am liking the grave digger and the parkour guy (don't know their names yet). And you KNOW that next week or so they will switch up the challenges to one that favors small skinny people and not the wrestling type stuff that favors the big guys.

Why the hell aren't people watching Supernatural?? It used to retain a huge chunk of Smallville's viewers, but last night SM had over 4 million, while SN had less than 3 mil, and it was the season premiere! When are people going to wake up and take notice of this excellent show?! Who gives a rat's ass about Ugly Betty or whatever stupid show is up against it?

Heck, it even plays well here in the UK (albeit not on a mainstream channel, though it rates well given its time slot). There's some thought and effort that goes into the whole production that elevates it far above the a monster - of - the -week genre offering it could have been.

Earl was great last night. Craig T Nelson's character was funnier than hell, I hope Earl stays in prison just so we can more of CTN. Best role since Coach!

are about it for me.

I saw ER a couple of times when a guest wanted to watch it and it was well written but I had no idea who anyone is or what their decade of backstory was about. I followed Without a Trace for a couple of years but all the interesting characters are ugly and all the attactive characters are uninteresting. I saw Big Shots but a great cast is wasted on some horrible, unlikable characters and appalling situations.

The local PBS affiliate is using the 10:00 pm est slot to show the newer version of Dr. Who. Is that any good? How am I supposed to jump in on a series that's been running since 1960 or something? I liked Red Dwarf. Is it anything like that?

[Joan who? Joan of Arcadia or Joan Jett?]

i think this has to be ER's last season right?

No, Mr Nelson's best role was in The Incredibles. My wife thought it was ironic as Jason Lee was over CTN in that movie, and it's reversed on Earl.

The TV Week's, Variety's, Reporter's, and Media Illustrated (okay I made that last one up), all give weight to overall, because overall is still the bar by which networks can claim certain bragging rights... and even advertisers are still drawn the aura of the "number 1 new show" or "most watched hour of television" -- things that can only really be claimed via overall households still. You're right, for a network like NBC, and shows like Bionic, 18-49 is about all they can really hope for, a win there is a major victory for them. But American Idol wouldn't be the feared show it is (and a scheduling nightmare for other networks) if it didn't swallow up the overall audience. But you know all this... you were just being cute to Lenny.

if you're going to lecture someone on the value of demographics, the least you can do is be more specific about the numbers you're giving. Are they shares? Are they a fraction of TVs just turned on, or all TVs? That's "shit" advertisers care about, too, and if they're just shares, then it's not really fair to compare Office to Survivor because they aren't up against each other (or the same competition). but you know all this, you were just being a dick to Lenny...

It's been getting steadily better for a year straight. It's better than 95% of the crap out there, that's for sure. They must have hired a whole bunch of new writers who don't suck Donkey Ballz, because I totally agree with the poster above: The rebirth of Morris as an interesting and enjoyable character is one of the greatest comebacks in dramatic television history. He went from an incompetant, boob bit-player to being one of the funniest and most sympathetic characters on the show. Also, Linda Cardellini looks much hotter as a brunette ... and sure fills out those scrubs nicely.
I watched repeats of ER for a week when I was sick
by Dr Gonzo

04:49:43 PM
Stuck at home, after having just jerked off to Charmed, I didn't have the energy to change the channel so I watched ER. The repeats were from where Dr. Green died of a brain tumor. Jebus, what a depressing show. First of all, every possible combination of doctor and nurse, man and beast were fucking each other. And their lives all suck and they all hate their job and they're all stressed out because they're such valiant heroes and give me a fucking break. That show makes Rescue Me look like a whimsical, lighthearted comedy.
