WHere the Hell is the A-Team movie, Cagney and Lacey, Manimal, T J Hooker, The Bionic man, Heart To Heart and that one where the Cowboy rode around New York on his Horsey!?

Stop with the sequels and re-makes and do big screen Re-Boots of Columbo with Philip Seymour Hoffman or Murder She Wrote with Glen Close! I'd pay to see that shit!!!

I have no idea who could pull off a straight version of Knight Rider though. Think about it... A serious movie where a man talks to his car,not a robot car, just a cool gadget loaded talking car. The fact that there is a KnightCon is kind of disturbing but I have to admit I liked Knight Rider when I was growing up. I just like A Team and Fall Guy better.

So go watch the TV version. Maybe he'll be part of that. The concept is what works for Knight Rider. That and the red-on-black color combo for KITT. The show was utter shit, the acting was utter shit, and the storylines were... shocker! utter shit. Once again, this is an 80's property that could be fantastic if they write it well. Put Jason Statham in this, and it's GAME FUCKING ON.

I don't think you can reinvent this series to make it cool like Battlestar Galactica or Bionic Woman. A talking car is too goofy to be reinvented. They are better off going the spoof route and casting someone like Will Ferrell in the Hoff role.

Stop motion Knight Rider webisodes for the Internets, so it's actually three projects. Said production company was just a fat 35 year old virgin jerk playing with his toys and a videocamera. All those ill concieved Knight Rider 2000 and Future Knight Rider from the late 90's blew. And I'm sorry NBC, Battlestar is one of the best TV shows ever, but you all are seriously blowing it with Bionic Woman, methinks this could be the same. The problem is that Battlestar can deal with broader issues and be treated as a serious drama... Talking Cars and Half Robot chicks... not so much. Just have fun with it ok?

Did I read correctly that there is actually a Knight Rider CONVENTION occuring somewhere out there? That is both fascinating and horrifying, probably ranking somewhere around a furry convention in terms of the surreal. I am imagining Devon Miles cosplayers and panels on the mechanics of turbo boosting. But this begs the question... does this mean there is a Sledge HammerCon I have been missing out on for 20 or so years? Fandom is truly a scary place sometimes.

As a fan of the original Michael Scheffe designed KITT ( the show itself was pure 80's fluff) and as an in-progress KITT conversion builder ... knightfoundation.net ... (deep breath) Guessing/knowing that at this stage of the game that either project is most likely going to be cinematic toilet paper actually pleases me to no end. My beloved '82 Pontiac won't have to suffer the indignities of the whole Flames on Optimus debate :-) I am of course waiting for the perfunctory "Lame-ass comedian" - "Bimbo d'jour" and the "Hot Musical Genius" which I am sure will be summarily attached to either project announcement so I can officially laugh my ass off. Demographics are for those poor souls that are stricken by God himself to posess no artistic ability or insight. And of course lets not forget PRODUCT PLACEMENT. It's a Knight Rider Invasion of Savings at your local Tri-Cities GM Dealer! Glen, we love ya pal but I Pray that those glasses are not rose colored. You had lightning in a bottle. always got buried, or trapped in some friggin' hole, and KITT would have to launch them out like a rocket. That's all he could ever do, besides talk and drive fast. Didn't even make coffee. He shoulda had rockets and a machine gun. Bond cars were more tricked out in 1962 than KITT was in 1982. But, yeah, I watched the show. The General Lee was a cooler car.

I loved that show, I would buy that for $20 on DVD, not any mnore then that, crap, I'm not made out of money. What they should do is combine Street Hawk and Air Wolf and make it a helicopter that can have a motercycle eject from it and hit the ground going, that would be awesome

now I haven't seen behind the mask yet, but a similar take on cheesy 80's vechile actioneers might be a fun movie. KITT, Air Wolf, Street Hawk, VIPER, the thunder in Paradise boat all exist in the same universe and I don't know some crazy mechnic is trying to build a new one.

But why do they think anybody can take this seriously in 2007? Why the fuck not just get David Hasselhoff driving the same car and make it an action comedy about him going around helping people? And he's still a dude in a leather jacket driving a Trans Am so people laugh at him. But he plays it dead serious and kicks ass. And yes, McG would be a good director for this.

I can't see how a serious take could work now. I mean I guess a serious Michael Mann style update might be funnier than the comedy version. But anyway, they should consider it.

p.s. Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell or the fuckin Napoleon Dynamite dude not allowed.

by PutZ

If i remember correctly he wasn't Michael's Twin. The guy who started the whole thing "Mr. Knight" had a son who he presumed was dead (but was actually in an african jail) When he remade Michaels face, he made it to look like his son. Later on the son shows up and is pissed because his dad kinda gave his face away. He was driving a semi truck named Goliath that was made from the same indestructable material as kitt, although the truck didn't talk...or even have a computer. Oh and the evil version of KITT was KARR he was the original prototype that had turned evil, but instead of a mustache he had a bad 2-tone paint job.

Why the hell not? The basic concept is solid: a "cool secret agent" and his tricked out car solving crimes and helping people. It would make a change from the "woman with special powers/training kicking ass" that we get so much of - add in the obligatory conspiracy arcs: Who is really behind the Knight organisation etc. and a light, humourous remake of the series (but that takes itself seriously) could easily be a hit. Nathan Fillion FTW!

I'm not inherently opposed to there being two simultaneous Knight Rider properties. Just look at Batman after the Tim Burton film... all sorts of properties (like Batman: The Animated Series) popped up, many of which were worthwhile. On the other hand, it's a shame that NBC would do this just to undercut Larson. The fact that that's apparently their only motive makes me smell a rat... so I kind of doubt their TV show will be worthwhile. Anyway, a new Knight Rider needs a big budget, a gritty feel, and an epic storyline.... they need top notch special effects (an awesome Kitt car with James Earl Jones or someone equally cool voicing), a good cast, and strong creative talent. That's a lot more likely to happen on the big screen with the Weinsteins than with NBC. So, hail the hardcore, big screen treatment. If NBC's smart, they'll embrace the feature film and use the extra buzz from that to sell the TV show... they don't need to be Larson's enemy, and if their show is really worthwhile it will benefit from the extra publicity.

was one of the highest-rated TV movies of 1991. Yes, it aired a mere two weeks after production was completed, but the moderate TV budget was put on-screen whenever possible. It was intended as a pilot for a new series, but later morphed into an unrelated "Knight Rider 2010" TV-series, three years later. Hasselhoff, Mulhare and Daniels were a part of it, and it was fun to work on. It included a bizarre "as himself" cameo by James Doohan. The minus was the unfortunate casting of Susan Norman (who?) as the sidekick. Mitch Pileggi performed his usual schtick.

Hollywood has turned into that episode of South Park where Cartman was pretending to be the robot buddy of Butters. Hollywood thought he was real and he kept making up stupid movie ideas with Adam Sandler in it and they loved it. It is the same idea now. Hollywood has run out of ideas, so they are remaking TV shows and old movies...copping out. Don't get me wrong, if done as a non comedy I would see Knight Rider, but Hollywood really needs to start being fresh again. If it wasn't a tv show or a movie, Hollywood doesn't seem interested.

I think you have stumbled upon a good idea for a comedy movie, but no Hasslehoff, unless he's getting run over by KITT. You mentioned Ben Stiller, I know you didn't want him in it, but come on, Ben Stiller in a leather jacket, going around solving crimes in a Trans am, that is comedy gold. Of course he would meet a girl played by Drew Barrymore, and fall in love. If you're dead set against Stiller, I know you would love Seth Rogen in the part, maybe with that fat redheaded kid as his faithful sidekick.

An evil car... I mean how can you doubt the genius of a show that has an evil car as a recurring villain. And Hoff in a 'tache as another villain. Hey, how about you bring back Hoff as the bad guy version along with KARR, and that way you can have a hot new lead and Hoff at the same time. I'd pay to see Hoff with a big 'tache, twirling it as he cackles evily and drives around in an evil 80s car. And by pay, I mean download it... Come on, whoever of the two projects does that is the obvious winner...

by Big Dumb Ape
Oct 7th, 2007

Don't count on that happening any time soon, much as I'd love to see it myself. Selleck tried for years to get a Magnum movie going and at one point even had Tom Clancy himself on board to write a treatment, since he was a giant fan of the show as well. You'd think with all the SHIT tv shows Hollywood decides to "remake" as movies that a Selleck & crew with Tom Clancy in tow deal would go through easily...

...But it didn't. Instead, Universal killed it all and basically told Selleck that his services were no longer needed and they would do their own movie, with a full recasting. At one point Clooney was mentioned as being courted for the role (appparently he was a fan of the show too) and last I heard...much like STARSKY AND HUTCH...they were going to do the MAGNUM movie as comedy. I don't know if he's still attached, but the guy who did DODGEBALL was signed to do a new script and direct.

Frankly, doing remakes like this makes no sense to me and strikes me as utter bullshit and yet another example of Hollywood creative bankruptcy. I'm sure there are some die hard Trekkers out there that just HAVE to get some new Trek material or they'll die, but the new J.J. Abrams remake falls under this same category for me. Why the fuck are you remaking classic TV that IS classic because we truly loved certain people in certain roles at certain times in our lives and THAT was the charm and magic to it all? I'm sorry, Hollywood, but fuck you with the new TREK movie no matter how many Sylar fans you think there are out here. Shatner and Nimoy are Kirk and Spock...Selleck is Thomas Magnum...the Hoff is Michael Knight. Trying to make new versions with new people is just bullshit that no one really wants to see and that's why practically EVERY so-called "reimagining" of a classic TV show fucking fails.

This has to be the most fucked up entertainment company on the planet. First they dump iTunes as a vehicle for selling TV shows, one of the dumbest moves in history. Now they are using guerilla warfare tactics against Larson to force him to dump the Weinsteins in favor of Universal? No wonder why NBC went from the highest rated network from just a few years ago to the lowest. A bunch of dumbfucks are running that company into the ground. They can go suck balls.

This was a great show for it's time, and I really think we need a resurgence of these kind of mini-movies that were so prevalant in the 80's. The show had something for everybody, it had the car for the guys and action, the Hoff for the ladies, and a kool futuristic talking car for the kids. No wonder it was successful. I can seriously see this being remade and updated into a movie, or even a weekly show easily. In a world with nothing but reality TV, and millionare shows, (with exception to a few...HEROES) We need more projects like this!

KR was a show that was a cool concept, poorly executed. The little narration during the opening titles makes it sounds like an awesome show. But then Michael ends up in a cowboy hat saving someone's farm from evil developers. The A-Team pretty much suffers from the same thing, right down to the same plot line, though the show was a bit better.
Then and now.

I grew up on 80's shows like this and they always divided people right down the middle, you thought it was shit or the only good things on tv. I fall into the latter group. TV can be too talky now, but then the old shows didnt have the substance the present equivalents do. They were just a product of the times they were made and bringing them back now is just an exercise in brand recognition. On the whole older fans wont like the inevitable changes and the younger audience cant see the attraction in the nostalgia. That said, if they insist on doing it, bring back K.A.R.R and Goliath !

Anyone remember an episode of Leno not to long ago where the Hoff was on and he talked about the movie? He didn't say anything about doing a TV show, but that he really wanted to make a movie with Glen. I'd much rather see this movie. As for NBC using the show to tank the movie, I don't think it's going to work. Everyone who loves KR knows Glen more than those other two guys, and personally, as far as KR is involved I'd follow Glen to the end of the earth. If it has his name on it, I'll watch it. Cause he won't fuck up Kitt. Mind you, Glen didn't have anything to do with any previous KR spinoffs. Which all sucked. Also, KR con I believe is kinda a show for people who've built the cars, and kinda a parts swap too.
