Just like arrested developments first season. When a comedy gets its second season they've had time to flesh out their jokes and find out which ones work (Gob's magic tricks or any seen with Kenneth) and which ones don't (any seen with Marta or Tracy Morgan and the little blue man). I think its the opposite with dramas. Heroes first season was pretty good but the second one blows just because they relied so heavily on the twists, there is nothing surprising the second time around. But I do take into account there have only been two eps so far. Anyway. I love 30 rock and can't wait to see Seinfeld and Baldwin together.

I have yet to see an episode of this show that I did not laugh at. The sequence with Jack taking a week to film a commercial was easily one of the funnier things on television last season. This is possibly the most anticipated comedy this season for me.

Somewhere there's a room full of executives who just can't wrap their heads around the fact that this show is a bomb. It's never been funny, not for a second. The self-reflective notion that NBC can't get anyone to watch this kind of crap without somehow getting Jerry Seinfeld to show up in it is clever, but unfortunately it only makes the show's weakness that much clearer... next week, there will be no Seinfeld and we'll back to the usual laugh-free exploits of the regular cast.

Never gets old... To be honest I thought the show took several episodes to hit its rhythm, so I don't see the shame in ragging on the pilot, it was disjointed and tried too hard. But fair play to Fey, who I was never a fan of, once it had clicked it was a fun sit-com with a couple of characters too many, but still, Baldwin and Morgan did fine jobs...

I'm a supervisor at a movie theater and I know quite a few of us couldn't stand Seinfeld's monologue at the Oscars this past year. Just wasn't funny at all and the timing was odd. The guy is a serious douche; never cared for his show before and now I just can't stand him. But hey, Supernatural is back today!

Those old talkbackers are right. I had to FORCE myself to watch this thing at first. I literally gave it 5 chances before I got into it. I've never done that before, given a show so many tries, but I felt like I should be liking it. I do. It's good. Alec Baldwin is amazing, the page kid is amazing. Rachel Dratch's cameos are cringeworthy, and I think she's ok in other stuff on SNL. But every time she is doing a little part on 30 Rock that is a wasted potential joke for someone new or someone else...instead it's just more of Dratch's creepy overacting characters. They stick out like a sore, sick thumb. Yuck.
So wait...Herc...

this show has improved a lot since the pilot particularly in the way the actor's gelled into their characters and the ensemble cast meshing together. The difference with 30 Rock vs most sitcoms though is that it had a decent start (for a pilot) and it had abundant potential with all the talent working in front of and behind the camera with additional cameo talent streaming in from SNL. The premise also allows the writers to be far more creative with their episodes then sitcoms that are locked in to a confined story.

It's almost as good as Arrested Development. The first few eps showed promise but were a bit rocky (Still loved how they were at "Sin City Cabaret" in the BX in the pilot), then the show became brilliant with the "Jack Meets Dennis" and "Tracy Does Conan" episodes. After that it found it's footing and is consistently funny. I think this show deserves to find a larger audience. I also think that is the shitty "Scrubs" has managed to survive 7 seasons on Low Ratings, 30 Rock should be given a pass on it's low ratings. And the Snapple Product Placement gag was hysterical.

Tina Fey is still not funny. SNL was still absolutely abysmal with her as head 'writer'. While 30 Rock isn't a failure as I predicted, it's still a mystery to me why it's on air and Studio 60 is gone. I can see that Baldwin’s comedic timing is nails on 30 Rock and that he is the one bright spot on that show. He can take her drivel and deliver it so it sounds like Larry David wrote it. The show won an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy... so? Will & Grace did. Sex & The City did. Hell, even The Monkees won back in the day. So the one point I will concede is that 30 Rock is on par with The Monkees. Quote me on that next season, Herc. The Office is easily the funniest show on TV. Go crack a Zima and enjoy another hackneyed season of 30 Rock.
This show is still uneven, but better

Herc doesn't do nuance or even "this show is pretty good." It's either hype something relentlessly or not at all.

Personally, I said last January: "The cast is superb and incredibly talented. But let's face it - the show is not... funny!"
I agree the show got better. I still watch it for the cast and it's still hit or miss. The season finale in June was painfully awful!

Clearly it didn't leave the best first impressions, but people DID believe in it and kept watching, and it only got funnier and funnier and ended up pulling the Emmy. Viewership can be impressive - take Jericho, for example. Sure we drink a lot of Haterade, but we still have some faith.

NBC still lacks faith
by Napoleon Park
Oct 5th, 2007
12:59:06 AM
The show started poorly and improved, gained momentum with a lot of positive critical buzz and then scored at the Emmys. NBC rewards it by shifting it's timeslot so it's not buried opposite Grey's Supernatural CSI. But they still lack faith and are going for the desperation play of frontloading many episodes with name guest stars. Trying to promote guesting on 30 Rock as the new "guest villain on Batman" Hollywood fad. Thats just sad.

Had mixed feelings about this episode, though. I either wanted less Seinfeld and more 30 Rock... or funnier Seinfeld.

I saw the horrible Pilot and have since watched a couple of shows and it hasn't gotten any better. What gives? This is just typical NBC; every comedy show they have is built like it's meant for children but peppered with adult themes, take My Name is Earl for instance. Is the "Dee'dee'dee'dee'dee" sound-track really necessary to tell me it's a light-hearted comedy and It's annoying how every character talks like they are member of Sesame Street in some twist to appeal to their mouth-breathing audience. "Now we're a comedy.. see, it's written on my shirt. Comedy. I'm likeable, very likeable..Look at the way I'm talking to you. Not a threat.. FART HARHARHAR. MEN KISS HARHARH.." this among other complaints. I mean I'd rather watch a telatubby fuck a stuffed cat for half and hour - sound great on paper dun'it? I'm sure NBC's line up does too.

30 ROCK WON AN EMMY?! (now I know why I stopped paying attention) I mean I'd love to have a go at Tina Fey but I wouldn't give her an Emmy to get her in the sack.

O.K. I gave it another shot

and it confirmed everything I thought about the show last year, mildly amusing at best. The " I like Lost" thing was funny, but much like SNL you have to sit through a lot of mediocre, obvious or flat out unfunny jokes to get to the one or two genuinely funny jokes per episode.

I can see why this show won the emmy, it makes perfect sense that a group of people that think that Keifer Sutherland is a better actor than Ian McShane or Hugh Laurie and think that Boston Legal and Grey's Anatomy are better shows than The Wire, Deadwood, The Shield, Rome, BSG and Lost would think that this is the best comedy on T.V.
