but not great. Will stick around for a bit to see if it gets its legs (no pun intended). These days, we're way too quick to discard a show without giving it time to hit its stride (*ahem* Fox Network *ahem* Firefly). Star Trek: The Next Generation didn't start getting really good until season three, IMHO. Before then it was decent, but not up to its later quality.

The acting was LAME, it was boring and hardly made any sense, and the actress who plays the bionic woman has absolutely no charisma. It could've been a very cool pilot w/ an updated version of the original storyline and the character of the first bionic woman who went crazy, but it sucked. They should've hired people w/ actual talent for writing and casting.

It was very much a re-hash of several different themes, all of which we've seen before. I was very intrigued by the preview -- but the show did not deliver. I'll watch it if I catch it by accident, but I'm not making any real attempt to watch it again.

...As the rain pours down through holes in the roof, female lead hero in a desperate fight against enemy inside a warehouse...

Music rises: "And they NEVER see what's coming...they NEVER understand...you're just ONE person against a world of blood and sand...and what THEY tell you...is NOT what they mean...and NOTHING is simple...and NOTHING will withstand...WHAT I'VE seen...WHAT I've seen...in you..." Music enters soft fade.

Female hero kicks bad person over ledge. Seeing the body, she collapses to her knees and weeps at what she's become. The little kidnapped girl she was saving puts her hand on female hero's shoulder to comfort her.

Fade to black.

Washington, who is a great actor and the fact that the show runners are better, stronger, faster than the Pilot. Sackoff is a starlet and gives it when performing and thre is a lot they can do with the premise. They arent going the Buffy route of being too self referential so I have hope. But the Pilot wasn't good. Needed to be 2 hours and was only 1. Too condensed. Whatever happened to long Pilots?

Issues

First, the show lacks focus. They need to figure out the real, central, most important, can't live without it core of what this show is about and build the stories around that and only that. Get rid of the non-essential subplots and distractions like the younger sister arc. That's the type of stuff that can be easily phased in later on when they have stronger legs to stand on. Until they build a stronger foundation they need to keep the focus tight. There's no room or time for a new show to futz around with that type of crap. Also, the characters are as flat as a pancake. Blame goes both to the acting and the writing (which while marginally better then the pilot is still weak). The girl playing Jamie in particular is weak. She's the central character that everything depends on and needs to be the most credible of the bunch but she's just not. As weak as the writing is, there's actually "enough there" for her to build some depth but I don't think she has the acting chops to do it. That's a serious problem. Other characters like the bossy blond "Dept Of Agriculture" woman is just bad acting. I don't know why she's even there. Phase her out for now and bring her back later if need be. Contrast those characters (and the other characters for that matter) to Starbuck who, with very little screen time and very little dialog, has created a character with some substance. She's the best character on the show by far. Next. This should be a "super hero" show. It's got characters with geek-rich super powers but they're only used as simple clue collecting tools. Bring out the geek moments which can be used as the climax to a tension building arc. Of course it doesn't help that the plots are rather ordinary. A super hero needs to tackle big issues worthy of their super hero status, and not screw around with small squads of renta-soldiers. I didn't pay particular attention to the music or sound but I'm guessing those were weak too. And what's with the lame opening title sequence? Contrary to popular belief that's not an insignificant part of the show. I'd really like to see this show succeed and think there's a ton of potential. If they have good stuff/eps in the works they'd better get it on air real damn quick or they can kiss whatever audience they have goodbye.
Yeah, I actually took notes.

Random points/Questions:

-Bionic Slut.

-I ask again. She was gonna jump off the building backwards?

-She just stumbles on the files hidden in the floor? That’s the best they could do? Guy that worked for the super-secret organization couldn’t hide something better than that? Couldn’t write in her bionic eye picking up something strange? Yeah, I could see how you might not think to use something “bionic” when you’re writing “Bionic Woman”

-Wow, that’s one funky lookin’ bionic ear. It’s all shriveled up n’shit.

-Man, that lone survivor chick is dealing with the news of the entire town’s death pretty well. My guess is she didn’t have many friends.

-No, don’t send the call to voice mail. Answer it and say “Can’t talk now.” Then continue a full conversation on the phone. Before you make a Jack Bauer comparison, I should point out that it wasn’t Chloe on the phone with important intel that might save someone’s life. It was her younger sister looking for a shirt.

-Ok, here’s the biggy, I guess we just dropped the whole nano-tech implanted training thing. So, she holds her own against another bionic woman, but normal guy pretty much kicks her ass. How? Well, he used the same moves. Really? Then what’s the point of being bionic?

-Best thing about the episode… She was actually wearing sneakers this time. I know the heals are supposed to look sexy n’all, but she just looks stupid running in them.

I think I’m pretty much done with this show. Am I being geek nitpicky? (geekpicky?) Maybe, but I’d be much more apt to let shit slide if the characters were a hell of a lot more engaging.

I gave this show one more look, just to be sure that my opinion of the pilot was perhaps too harsh.

It wasn't.

My problem with the show is not the fact that it's crap (it clearly is). In fact the show is beside the point. Who cares if some writer and producer (of mediocre talent) bring us yet another show that fails to live up to the (very attainable) goals that we - the geek community - have clearly issued forth for a diversionary program to make us applaud. It's the fact that I know that as soon as I make a statement like "the show is crap" (which is most clearly is), I will be gutted by the group of people that I have decided are the very few people I will associate and discuss with (in the loosest sense of the term) in terms of discussing pop culture and other trivial crap. I have a highly "adult" life outside of this forum, and I want, nay, I NEED to believe that you (my fellow arbiters of all that is escapism) are smarter than this show. Can I get an AMEN?

in response to giving this show time to "mature" i have to say that it deserves none. writing this lazy should be punished quickly and if there was ever a candidate for midseason cancelations this is it. some shows take time to but hoping that this is gonna end up being a good is blind optomisim that the year's worth of hype will come true. when it comes to serial drama tv (ie a long story progression and not just standalone episodes) the first episode sets up the foundation for the whole. grimey acting iffy effects and questionable direction is all forgivable but here they have proven thmselves unable to set up a universe worth being interested in and filled it with so many cardboard cliches that it will crumble under the wieght of more than 13 episodes. think about all the really amazing epic tv: sopranos, sixfeet under, BSG, Farscape, twin peaks, lost, hell even 24 and prison break, were those show's first episodes anywhere near the level crap that BW is? Let it go. put your hard earned viewing into journey man instead

it's just not going to last. Like others have already said, the show needs to either stop taking itself so seriously and get witty, or get hard core and uber gritty. They really need to do something to make this show stand out, It's nothing other than generic sci fi action show with female lead #235 If they don't start taking some risks, they're going to go down the same road Dark Angel and Alias did and that's not good.

and it was not as horrible as the pilot, but not great. Isaiah Washington is on there now so Michelle Ryan appears to be a better actor in comparison. (The Jack Russell terrier was better than both of them.) And Katee continues to steal the show. The best part of the show was the 'get my office soundproofed' bit. Please kill off the loser sister, have Sarah Corvus do it, that would be cool. "It's not a drug, it comes from the earth." Give me a break. The sister is tacked on like the bionic limbs were in the pilot (or Darth Vader's in Episode III, same difference). Put on the fembots and the Hagar twins from outer space; it couldn't make it any worse.

The Piolet was OK, this episode was boring! So was Life I stoped paying attention toward the end. House's new season is lacking and so is Boston Public. On the otherhead I think Heros and Prison Break are starting off a lot stronger then last year. Plus the lead in this show goes from hot to ok looking a lot, BUT then again she is british so looking ok over there is like being a model over here. Don't hate I lived there for three years so I am not talking out of my ass. Chuck had a much better second episode as well, Reaper ... ehhh not so much. BUT I AM NOT GIVING UP! NEVER GIVE UP! One word to the camera man.. BUY A FUCKING TRIPOD!!! What is he a ninja camera man? Shots are filmed from behind boxes,, in a closet, with computer monitors taking up half the screen. I cant handle the way the camera zips back and forth like every shot is an action fight scene. It jiggles up and down like it's filmed with a hand camera. Jeeezus, put some cash into the production and buy the man a steady cam or something. The show might be good, but i couldnt say, was fighting motion sickness the entire episode. Might be that my screen is just too big. Might be the director is used to filming music videos only. I dont know what the problem is, may not be a problem, might just be me, but if this is the way the whole season is filmed, count me out. I dont have enough air sick bags for another episode.

for a real mind twist, if i was writing the show... i'd have jamie fall into the whole saving the world thing, with this shadow organization. We as viewers eventually find out it's really an evil organization, and that Katee is really doing her part to take it down. Her and jamie get into a huge fight and Katee kills her, and continues the series as the real bionic woman fighting against the evil company. Oh yea, she bitch slaps the face off jamie's moronic sister. Just if i was writing it...hee hee

The formula for how new shows must work...
by Prof. Pop-Cult
Oct 4th, 2007
09:36:52 AM
1. The pilot must grab the audience's attention. Period. The pilot establishes the main characters and starts to set up what the show's format will be like in the following episodes. 2. In the second episode, we see how the show's formula plays out, with a few tweaks and adjustments. 3. In the third episode, most things should be established and the audience should now feel accustomed to what the creators behind the show are setting out to do with the series over the first season. Bionic Woman has failed so far in its first two episodes. It's ludicrous to ask audiences to watch an entire season of a bad show in the hope that a couple of episodes will be good. In theatrical films, audiences expect to be hooked within the first 10 minutes, which is something that is constantly emphasized to aspiring screenwriters. If the producers of a new TV series require a full season of episodes (13-to-22) before they can fully figure out what they're doing, then something is wrong.

they supposedly fired a ton of staff and hired on some people to fix the problems. I'd like to see how things look after they've had some time. Though granted, I probably wouldn't be this generous if it 1. didn't have bionics which has tremendous potential because of its inherent issues (some of which can be seen in the _old_ manga series by Ishinomori Shotaro like Cyborg 009 and Kikaider) and 2. didn't have Starbuck who, if given the right role, could help serve as an anchor to turn things around.

I was less than thrilled with the pilot. This episode played better, although it still needs help. Did anyone notice that BSG was playing on a TV when they walked into a house? That gave me some hope. I must say that Katie is just far better as a bionic woman. I believe her. Then, we decided to watch "Life" after "BW" was over. Save me, Jeebus! THIS is the best show I've seen this fall, by far. My 20 y/o stepson said "gee, this guy is a better actor than everyone on the show we just watched...except maybe the blonde (Sackhoff)" I had to agree..."Life" really screws NBC; it's so good, it REALLY makes the lead-in show look like crap on a stick.

Boyfriends dead, boo hoo, now I'm a drunk slut, wait here's Albert from Twin Peaks, now I'm in a bookstore looking at self-help books with a homophobe, I hear that Wilco song, now I'm having lunch with generic friends we forgot to mention on our previous episode, hey, don't jump, plot-device suicide woman! Hi again, Albert, now I want to save the world! Ouch, there's a ringing in my ears, wait, now its fixed, time for some pull ups! Now I'm on a mission with a woman who looks like Starbuck's mom, small town, nerve gas, dead dogs, dead kids on bikes, oops, this girl's alive ("where's grandma?!"), run, run, run, fight, fight, fight, battle some guy in a military outfit, surviving girl spouts z-grade action movie "funny" dialogue over and over again ("who ARE you people?") now the vague nerve gas threat is over, whew we saved Portland, Starbuck's having sex and says she got hacked, my sister is apparently in a talent show production of Hee Haw, there's that Wilco song again. THE END.

Although my opinion of the show is not as harsh as some people here, I still haven't seen anything that will keep me watching once they kill Starbuck off (or however they end her story arc). I plan on giving it a few more tries since my "shows to try and watch on a regular basis" list is pretty short this season, but so far Katee is the only thing that will keep be tuning in.

Well almost all of you , and Starbuck will be regular if there is a season 2. I think the show is impoving and I love the lead actress and her little cute sister.

Leave out the sci-fi so the rest of us know not to watch. After watching the second episode, I could see why all those people left because of creative differences. And I now understand why the producers were all defensive when they tried to play up the bionics as secondary to "a show about a single woman and her issues." I was literally screaming for the second episode to end so I could put a cork in it once and for all.

I'm very forgiving of pilots so I was willing to give this show a chance when the pilot seemed half-assed. But I could now tell this was by the people who ruined BSG for me. They want to tell lame, banal little stories, but they know nobody will give a shit about them, so they through in bionics or cylons to keep people hooked. Whatever. If they wanted to go that route, they should have kept the deaf sister. Also, I don't see why people think Starbuck is anything special on this show. Her character is either badly acted or badly directed, I can't decide. Everything about this show has an unnatural feel to it. I couldn't care less about the main character.

So I guess of all the new pilots, BW is the first to fall off my schedule. I was betting on Chuck. If by some miracle BW picks up, I'm sure I'll hear about it later and check it on DVD. Reaper is still ok, but that show is all about the funny, fat friend and that may not be enough. Daisies should be good though.

Doesn't she look like JOHNNY HANDSOME?

Giant face. Short and stocky body. Yeah, big fucking deal, her upper half looked vaguely passable in that boring black workout top. Seems like the kind of "hot chick" show that will NEVER show its star's legs or have her wear sexy high heels with a dress or skirt. Probably because she has kankles and legs like tree trunks. How did they ever choose this doughy, tubby, pasty chick with a BIG FAT FACE to be the Bionic Woman?

she's cute but annoying. The deaf chick from arrested development was interesting to me but they got rid of her. alos this episode really stunk, and I enjoyed the pilot

THE Bionic Woman, Oscar, and Rudy. These characters were fun and made a great team. It's a bloody shame this '07 tripe has stolen its name and,in essence, constipates any genuine effort at updating it. NBC, hating you now. Got cocky, didn't ya? I think it is too late for a new team to completely save this. Too much would need to change. NBC just needs to smell the upcoming financial loss and release the '76 BW Region 1 for those of us who want to wash this crap out of our memories.

from the gist of the previews I see, the show seems to be aimed at the hyper, whiney head bangers who like to watch dark, bleak shows like CSI 24/7 (but with a superhero twist), where just about the only colors of the show are black, gray, blue, and, oh yeah, and the color of blood. ...and don't tell me... She's another one of these cold, tough chick's, right? WHERE'S THE FUN? WHERE'S THE HEART? GIVE ME A FREAKIN REASON TO CARE!!! ...pass...
Why should I stick with a series that starts badly?

It's network TV. I'm not paying with my time while dumbasses get their shit together. Show some fucking pride. Don't run a series that is crap. It should be top-notch entertainment when it hits the screen. Scripts should be flawless. If you can't deliver, get the fuck out of the way.

...Just goes to show...A first episode needs to make sense or people get turned off REAL fast. And this was a prime show to make it big.

It had the older crowd who remembered the original show and were curious to watch. It had the 'Buffy'/'Xena' crowd who dig strong women in the lead of a show. It had BSG fans tuning in to see the girl who plays Starbuck. It had the general comic geek/sci-fi crowd. It really had a huge appeal for so many...and it squandered it in a mere 43 minutes.

I would rather

watch re-runs of the real original Six Million Dollar Man. Lee Majors is the man. This is the same melodramatic bullshit that ruined the "re-imagined" battlestar. Give me the Six Million Dollar Man running in slow motion and kicking Bigfoot's ass! Give me a dude Starbuck and a black Boomer blasting Cylons out of the sky! Get rid of this hilary chick shit and give us some real men hero's! I HATE all this political correct crapola!

They should bring on Lee Majors as Jamie's Father who has been keeping secret for years that he is the first bionic man.
