almost to the point that I don't care. As much as I love all the Aliens movies with Weaver even that 3rd and 4th one AVP sort of sucked the soul out of the franchises of both Aliens and Predator for me. While watching this trailer I felt no excitement. None. Like I don't even care. The "Ripleyesque" female lead they seem to have just looks like a desperate grab at trying to recapture the old vibe of the previous installments but really it just sort of cheapens it.

IMO what would be a really cool concept for a movie with AVP would be to do this on the Aliens home planet or visa versa sans ANY humans. Why not? It would be a cool concept film and very ballsy to have a movie that features nothing but those two species and actually do some historical accounting of where both are from. Never going to happen. The average movie goer would never want to sit through a film that does not have any dialog other then that of the made up language of the Predator. Would be cool though huh?

Or Arnold,or Siquorney,or anyone who use to star in these movies when they were good. Why cant FOX do one of these right? How hard would it be to film one of these in the jungle or Death Valley and pretend its an Alien Planet? Having Aliens on modern-day earth is just stupid as hell, and the Predators on earth thing has been done to death. Why cant FOX do anything right? I know the chick who played Michelle (Soul Patch Vengence's wife) on 24 looks to be the main chick, but I coulda sworn Rips (rhymes with...) cries, "Hold On!" at one point. Maybe she keeps getting reincarnated with the aliens and this is her previous life before the first film. Or maybe it's getting late.

Didn't see the first one, won't see this. Until Milla Jolovich take 'em on in Resident Alien: Predatorial Survival.

all AVP movies should be set on Earth since the Predator movies were on Earth, and Predator is by far the superior franchise here. Aliens in space is a stupid idea anyway. These things are only alien if you bring them to a foreign environment, like Earth. In the Alien movies, Riply was always the title character.

I always thought that was a little bit goofy, how the Aliens are supposed to take on the characteristics of whatever it came from. I mean, if an Alien gets dreadlocks when it comes from a Predator, then shouldn't the Alien in Alien have gotten hair? Or for that matter, fucking EYES?

01:16:30 AM
The alien is supposed to take on general physical aspects of the host, such as biped/quadruped features. Not specifics such as hair, and not such lovingly maintained hair either! Fucking hacks, no idea of canon, like how the last one was set in Earth's coldest climate, despite everything that the predator movies had told you about the Predator's choice of hot climates. Question is, will they have the ridiculous speeded up Alien life cycle in this one?

from way back then. There was like, a gorilla alien. And a snake Alien. And a spider Alien. And a gerbil Alien. And they all looked stupid as hell. But that also made them sort of funny. Hey, now that the Alien series is pretty much become trash anyway, maybe they could make Alien 5 and/or AVP 3 set in a zoo. Like, the Predators drop some Aliens off at the zoo, then we'll get to see all of the Aliens from the old toys.

Putting these guys together diminishes thier appeal, certainly did in the last installment. Another example of something looking good on paper (i.e. comics) and looking like a shit sandwich on screen. They had to bring in humans we didn't give a fuck about to have any sense of character development whatsover; they shouldn't have bothered. Yeah, that for me was easily the worst thing in the AVP film. Too bad both franchises got killed with the AVP movie, which I must admit I thought turned out just a little bit better than I expected. I mean, did really any of you seriously expect that film to turn out to be as cool or good as any of the Alien or Predator films ? Please Fox executives, give Ridley Scott 100 or 150 million dollars or whatever it takes and let him make a new film that will play entirely on the Alien planet. And no need for visiting Predators in that film. Thanks a bunch Fox, I bet a lot of us earthlings will go and see that movie.

Totally agree with you. The ONLY way to put this series to rest the RIGHT way is to sign up Ridley Scott and Sigourney, go back to planet LV-whatever, find a way back to the aliens planet of origin and either nuke it from outer space OR sign up Bill Clinton for a cameo to try to talk the aliens to come to peace talks, then have Billy-boy force-fed one of those preambulatory penis's for lunch. I love Ripley, Sigourney Weaver owns that role forever, but I think there's a hell of a story to be told if they ever decide to explore the origins of the creatures in a future movie and she doesn't have to be involved. Her story is done. If they do make another installment and she comes back I wouldn't be against it. I think they could do something interesting with Ripley as an older woman (her age could be deceiving to her fellow humans if they play up her superior strength and genetic link to the Aliens). I think it could work if they nail the story. I know a lot of fans want the Alien to remain a mystery forever but I would personally love to see them explore the source of the creatures and their link to the Space Jockey and his species. Imagine a planet straight out of Giger's biomechanical nightmares, I think that would be far more interesting than seeing them end up on earth (an idea which has already been deflated by these AVP movies using our present day planet as a battleground). I know it will probably never happen but a guy can dream, right? They're making a fucking JOUST movie so I guess anything can happen.

Fair enough, sorry mate. I'm glad that everyone seems to be in agreement here for once. But I don't hold much hope for this movie. I haven't really taken to any of the Alien creature designs after Aliens, this one looks to be terrible, the head ridges look all wrong. I love Giger's original, but the one from Aliens is my personal fave. Why can't they bring that back?
I agree, the recent Alien designs have been terrible.
by Psyclops

04:54:47 AM
I think these new creatures look a bit better than what ADI has churned out for the last few installments but it's just too far removed from the original. It doesn't have to be a carbon copy, the creature from ALIEN 3 looked pretty good and it was very different from Giger's creation, but the designs from RESURRECTION and AVP look awful. The jutting chin, large fangs and sinewy body don't look biomechanical at all. They make the Alien look like a slimy velociraptor fused with a giant turd. If these effects guys had to be brought back for another go with the Aliens then I would be open to a different look as long as the redesign was from head-to-toe (not just giving it ridges and fixing the mouth). Don't even get me started on how fucked up the Predator looked in the last movie. There's nothing wrong with putting your own stamp on something when you've inherited someone else's design so long as you don't butcher the features that made it memorable in the first place. The Scar Predator from AVP looked like he had a facehugger growing out of his mouth with those gigantic mandibles. How is it that a series of films that were made in the '80s had better creature effects than now?

In spite of the all-out stupidness of this cross-franchise idea....

Can you imagine back in the late seventies when the original "Alien" came out, what would audiences in cinemas have made of this ultra-violent trailer back then? It would surely have completely blown everyone's minds and its extreme nature would have made it a major cultural event, for better or worse.

Of course, it begs the question: What are audiences going to be seeing in movie trailers thirty years from now? !!!

There are some projectionists who collect movie trailers, and then they mix and match and splice different trailers together to make their own short films, and then once in a blue moon, projectionists get together in a theatre after hours, and watch each other's short movies. That's what this reminds me of.

Years later Humans land on a planet and discover Predators they un freeze arnie to see if the alien materials on him can help to work out how to infect the Predators with a virus or some shit. They then discover Xenormorphs and all shit breask loose, with Arnie in the middle, we then discover which is the hardest species ibn the Galaxy, of course its Arnie...Fuck you Aleean, boom. Can you imagine a face hugger trying to attack Arnie and he just rips it apart with his bare hands. He would make himself armour from dead Aliens to protect him against acid and get some predator weapons, then just kill every other fucking thing on screen, with extreme predjudice. Thats a fucking AvP movie, toatl balsll to the wall death and destruction, RAnie would escape with one Predator he befriends and they annihalate the entire planet, but then the predator, knowing Arnie ios the ultimate warrior tries to kill him and they square off on the spaceship, with Arnie narrowly winning of course. This movie will be total shit like all the others and unless we stop going to see this pish, they will continue to make cheap crap with no care for audiences, boycott all trash and they will produce no more crap movies, easy.

if the "timeline" is not to be changed, as in Alien 1-4 nobody seems to have much knowledge about the Alien-monsters. As opposed to stupid fun (ALIEN III, IV, and PREDATOR II, AVP) which, in the end...forgot the fun. AVP:R looks worlds better than any of the post Aliens, Predator sequels. Count me in for this ride. Let's face it, the original films were brilliantly directed, not brilliantly written. AVP:R just needs competent writing and directing to make it good.

I've been lurking here for many years, loving the fact that I found a site that would help me discover cool sci-fi stuff I may have missed and warning me about the shit before it hits the theaters. What happened to those days? Even if AvP2 turns out to be watchable, it's still part of a series that pisses on the existing canon of and effectively destroys the future potential of two of the greatest sci-fi franchises ever made. Every story about this movie should have a link to the script review that talks about what a pile-of-shit this film is going to be so everyone can see that the trailers show a movie clearly made from that script. If AintItCool just encourages their readers to get a raging boner from these trailers, helping to pack the seats on opening weekend and encourage studios to make even more of this crap, then it's just another part of the problem.

Sorry guys, but the story to this AVP sounds even more ridiculous than the first one. I agree with many previous comments in that Fox seems to have no clue about how to make a good Alien or Predator movie any more, much less one that puts them both together. I don't care how much gore it has, it's gonna suck unwiped ass. Mark my words. I'm definitely not going to waste my money on this one. It will be a $1 rental at best.

looks like fun... and Reiko prolly never saw an Alien or Predator movie until she signed on... then she Netflixed em and while watching them, took notes on how to play the role of Ripley... that part will be really annoying. i really also hope that she doesn't try to escort a kid out of the city, that would be a cliche'd as the Bush Admin lying. i don't get why they are releasing it during Christmas either? You'd think after the first AvP that no other female can top Ripley, and that to try is just to bastardize both franchises. All people in this movie should be extras, because as we see in the trailer they're all summarily dispatched anyway. And whoever said it above is correct, about the trailer looking like a montage of kills we've already seen. I'll still see this, though, because like, aliens and predators are in it and I'm a 36 year old dork.

Those ships have sailed. It's lame, predictable carnage via creatures we know and love from our past. Aliens III was bad. Aliens IV had moments, although the genetic freak at the end ruined the franchise for me. Predator was fun. Predator II also had its moments. But to quote Bill Paxon, who appeared in both franchises, "Game over, Man! Game over!" Honestly, I think this is nothing more than a 90 minute trailer for a video game.

Alien 3 rocks. It took me a long time to appreciate that movie, it really needs to be seen as separate from Aliens in order to work. I think the biggest problem with it is that it came as an anticlimax after Cameron's sequel. People were expecting action and got suspense instead. That scene where the doctor finally lets his guard down and tells Ripley about why he's still at the prison planet right before the Alien jumps through the roof and kills him, then stops before it gets to Ripley because it can smell the queen inside here is fucking brilliant. One of the best scenes in a sci-fi movie ever.

Alien was great because of its setting. There was no where for the people to run from the alien.
Aliens was the same thing, ticking clock and all, with the added bonus of fun...the Colonial Marines. The marines were that movie. That's what helped make it great.

What they need to do is what the AVP video games had accomplished. Mixing the best parts of all three franchises. Exposes the culture of the Predators past the hunt. Showing that the aliens were more. The humans discovering the mysteries of the Pilot race.

That's a movie I'd like to see. It would have gore, a militaristic style, science, mystery.

Who truly cares that it would have some hot chick in it or 'Silent Night' for that matter.

Of course I don't know what people are expecting of this? The only way we'll get a good Aliens movie is if Scott or Cameron are attached to a sequel and hopefully it'll be some grand finale of sorts.

As far as the Predator movies they were fun but nothing revolutionary.

I kind of think of this movie as more of a Predator 3 film with Aliens in it. Not expecting anything to change my life but atleast be entertained for a couple of hours.

Why AVP fails
by wowsucks
Oct 3rd, 2007
12:43:12 PM
AVP was a better comic book then any movie will be able to bring out. I would have rather seen a new Alien movie based on current day earth, now that could have been fun. But not both. It's just boring watching these 2 fight on screen. Also the first AVP fucked the whole thing up, like the Hulk movie will do to the sequel. Granted they where smart enough to hire some brass for Hulk 2 to try to win over from the other crap. It's still on peoples minds and will effect the box office.
Some good points...
by LordSkyliss
Oct 3rd, 2007
12:51:41 PM
I agree...It seems that the producers have no idea what they're doing. They wanted to avoid Aliens so much when they made Alien 3 and they screwed the entire franchise up. After watching these two trailers though, my guess is that they are slowly building this franchise to a point where the combat marines can once again enter the picture. If they end up on the Alien or Predator homeworld at the end, we might see that. However, regardless, t would be kick ass to see a new Alien flick with high tech marines. But will the cast be nearly as good as the Cameron flick?

looks better than alien 3, alien resurrection, predator 2 and AVP put together. i still like these films, but they are seriously flawed. the effects in alien 3 were laughable...and killing off your main character wtf? the rubbery looking alien tongues, another stupid cloning plot and that giant alien baby in ressurection... well it was all retarded. in predator 2 danny glover kills a pred in hand to hand combat when even arnold couldnt. LAME! and i am pretty sure LA didnt have all that shit going on in 1997 or whatever. if you are going to set a movie in the future, set it far enough in the future that nobody can laugh at you when it doesnt happen. because you're dead of old age. like try the year 2187... cuz time cop really makes me laugh. oh yeah... and AVP just sucked. T-rex sized queen, no blood, no skinned humans in the theatrical release, pg-13, slow motion face hugger-fu. accelerated growth cycles... bleh. this new film looks to be a step up from those movies.

I am Herman Melville, Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway combined and I would just like to say that your English is atrocious. Maybe you need to slow the fuck down when you type.

Quote: "...why i should think that The Long Kiss Goodnight is a good movie. And don't come up with the same tired excuse of the "it's a fun movie". That won't do. I need a really good reason more then just one's cocnept of "fun"."

Not only is that horrific to read, it plays right into the hypocrisy of what you feel inclined to instruct us is good and/or fun.

So, give us a good reason why we should like SLITHER over say...THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT? And we want a really good reason; NOT your concept of "enjoyable cheese fun".

Do you see my point?

Therefore I will resist this... I will not encourage such nonsense... it does look a teeny tiny bit tempting though - but not enough for me to pay money for. This is one I'll be watching on a flight or TV for free at best. Oh, and Mockingbuddha when you say "Predator is by far the superior franchise" you are being sarcastic. Predator is a hoot and number 2 was not as bad as made out... but no way do they remotely compare to Alien/Aliens as classics of cinema.

Alien 3 was the first instance where i realised that studios just dont see these films the way i see them. They feel that the audience just likes the burst and splat of these movies and thats all we want each time. Possibly that is what the majority wants, certainly that trailer doesnt skimp on that front. Possibly i'm on my own wanting something more imaginitive and grandiose than Aliens and Predators running around sweatsville USA, 200 years before the characters in the first film encounter the fucking thing for what is now NOT the first time. Sort of unravels the title even of that film now, "Alien". When you look at the original Alien movies and the original Predator and consider the directions that could have been taken with the material. Then look at the misjudgements and mistakes that have lead us to this narrow, video game inspired garbage. Frankly it just fucks me off something chronic.

Why The Long Kiss Goodnight is a good movie
by Jaws Wayne

Here's what makes The Long Kiss Goodnight a good movie for me. It has a damn fine story (courtesy of Shane Black). It has great acting, especially from the leads Geena D. and Sam Jackson. It has a lot of the best dialogue scenes I've heard before or since in an action film. It has Geena Davis tied to a waterwheel. Once seen, never forgotten. The whole movie is very well filmed, edited and of course has a great score from Alan Silvestri. To sum it all up; the film is just a damn fine watch and has a high re-watchability factor. Anything else you want to know ? Here's a bit of one of the (many) great dialogue scenes between Charlie Baltimore (Davis) and Mitch Hennessey (Jackson); Charlie : "I know he has a pin in his leg, car accident. I... I know he cuts his own hair. He doesn't even own a TV. He... he sits when he pees..." Mitch: "Hey, hey, hey. That's enough, I'm gettin' a boner here, all right?"
So how would you imagine that world?

I mean lets talk good fucking movie ideas here for a moment and stop bickering. As I said just a bit further up, If that was supposed to be the idea that Cameron had in mind then how fucking bad would these new aliens have to be in order to make the Xenomorphs flee the planet? Iam thinking (and I wish I could of seen it) a truly terrifying organism we have only seen in our nightmares.
Doc, actually all the Aliens have ticking clocks
by Abominable Snowcone

In the first Alien, the clock starts ticking when Ripley sets the self-destruct. In Aliens, time becomes critical once the atmosphere processors--which are fusion based--are compromised by small arms fire. In Alien 3, the clock starts ticking as soon as the prison warden (forget his name) alerts the company that Ripley is there. Trouble brews and a dog (or bull, depending on which version you see) varialien wreaks havoc. Will the company arrive in time to 'save' any of the residents of Fury? Or will the 'beast' get them first? In Alien Resurrection, the element of time reverts to the tact used in the first couple movies--the science vessel is compromised when the aliens get loose on the smuggler's ship (remember "Nick" from Cheers tossing grenades into it)? Even after they escape the science ship, timing is crucial because the shuttle is breaking up on reentry to earth.

I agree... the AvP games captured the feel of the movies for me perfectly. The first levels as the marine in AvP 2 were perfect. I don't understand why these Hollywood writers feel like they need to reinvent the wheel. Some of these franchises are popular already because of the stories in the games, why do we have to completely scrap the storyline before its shot as a movie? I'd pay for a movie version of AvP 2... same for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, etc.

I hated the first one so much! Alien vs. Predator was borne for the comics and still Hollywood fucked up the first one, why? They got a shitty director and an even shittier story with so many plotholes that you would need a whole new talkback just for that. Anyways, like I said before, Alien vs. Predator was borne from the comics, so why not use the comics for the movies? Every thing is layed out, the setting, the dialogue, hell you even got the cast of characters. How hard is it to just FOLLOW THE COMICS!?!?!? Apparently is super hard cause Hollywood has to make NEW stories up instead of following the mythology-which is why Hollywood got their slimmy greedy hands on the property: the money!-and make a kick as movie. The trailers for Requiem look sweet as hell! They look the way an Alien vs. Pretador movie should have been made! But the facts are that the first one sucked donkey dick and I am really hesitant to really expect anything less than shit. I am really hoping that I am wrong on this, hell, I think many of us are hoping and praying that this movie really does justice to the property and not just shit on it like so many other properties have been pissed on before. But the trailers look sweeeet! Here's crossing my fingers that the movie is too.

Mistakes of the past
by Allfather Starr
Oct 3rd, 2007

This is what pisses me off. They don't look at the previous films and avoid the mistakes made in those movies. Alien3 had some good points, but the thing that pisses me off about it that most is that they just MADE SHIT UP! How the fuck did those eggs get on the Sulaco? How? They didn't, that's how, there is no way in hell you can explain that one. They totally ignored everything that happened at the end of Aliens. And that's what they did with AvP, they totally ignored what had been set up by the previous movies, i.e. the preds only come to earth in the hottest years. Righty-o, set it in antarctica then. Oh yeah, and have them outside on a ship with no visible breath. Lazy, lazy film-making.
Then you look at the worst part of Alien Resurrection, the abomination that was the Newborn. Horrible. It was a terrible attempt at mutating two species into one. So what do they do with this one, same bloody thing. We may not have seen it all, but that shot of the alien with dreads just looked pathetic.
Add to that the whole thing about the Nostromo encountering the Alien for the first time, yet now we are to believe there had been many instances of the alien presence on earth, two of them in the modern day, and you have just lost your entire fan base right there.
And anyone who says "well this looks fun, I liked the others", that's like drinking a couple of cold beers, then finding out the next one is warm and saying "well I'm sure it'll be alright, looks ok on the outside, and I liked the previous ones."

On one hand you constantly rail against films that do not meet some utterly arbitrary level of quality, and on the other you enthuse about wanting to see a cynical marketing cash-in based on a shitty trailer. Aliens v Predators in Fucking K-mart? predalion? colour me unimpressed. I also find your humourless, condescending, long winded posts tiresome and your patronising attitude offensive. People like the Crazy goatzinger are happy to watch "Bayformers" does that mean it was good? IMO no. Does that mean The Goatzinger is stupid? also IMO no.

2 words why The Long Kiss Goodnight is a quality film- Shane Black.

Lord Plantliss- how dare you come over all indignent on AICN when called out for corporate shilling? If you are going to post shit like your first effort then you are going to get called on it. AVP Requiem Isn't More Than...

Yet Another Teen Death film when you get down to it. Making it even worse is the fragmented plot, and the misguided belief that, by shooting the entire thing in near darkness, you ratchet up the "suspense". Yeah, like having lots of explosions in Bay's unfortunate revision of the Pearl Harbor story is a substitute for historical accuracy and good dialogue. This watches like a film composited together by committee. All the elements are there: * Guy returns to home town from (jail? prison? Iraq?) just before all hell breaks loose; * Sheriff (who looks like he's in his 20s like the returning guy) knows the guy from sometime in the past; * Girl who remembers him from the old days is married with kid; * Kid gets a nightscope from him for a present (gee, do yah think it's a plot point-to-be?); * Little brother is emotionally scarred from something and is still in high school or just being a truant, and we're told he hasn't been a good boy while brother's been away, had some kind of semblance of a relationship with the Prettiest Girl In Town, who is still hanging out with the Town Jock and his Jock Friends; * There's a nuclear power plant in town, making for an eventual fight site, if not a glorious explosion at the end (anyone who's worked with Michael Bay has an addiction to stupid explosions it seems); and THAT'S just an hour into this movie. I go on. For some reason the Predators have a spacecraft orbiting Earth, and it appears to be the same ill-thought-out lab as found in Alien Ressurrection. Manned by just one Predator of course, who gets attacked of course. The craft crash-lands in Colorado I think, out in the middle of nowhere, just where the above characters happen to be. Fans of the Alien and the Predator films will notice that this isn't in the 22nd century, but present day - quite some time before AVP I, and the Alien series, which presents a continuity problem unless it was the Predators that created the Aliens, so why weren't they in the Schwarzenegger film? Because Predator was a well-thought-out film, and AVP Requiem is a load of rubbish that wants to squeeze the last bit of green blood out of an already exhausted franchise? Mmmmm, could be! I liked the first AVP. It had continuity with the Alien series, AND the Predator films. It was in the bloody future, and you had links story-wise between all of the films. I love the Predator gadgetry, but unfortunately the Predator characters in AVP Requiem are just as fallable as humans, even with the technology at hand. It's obvious to most viewers of the film that this is because the tatty plot requires all the help it can get, just to propel itself along like the lumbering committee project it is. The sole Predator in the film by 1:00:00 has about as much token presence as Lance Hendrickson's in Alien 3. Well maybe a little more, but not enough to provide any real deterrent to what this film is really about: slash and kill the townspeople. The biggest clue to the inability of the 'writers' of this film to understand either Alien or Predator story lines involves the fact that, before any of the townspeople know what the noise downstairs, something-in-the-pool, something-outside-the-house, etc, they're reacting as if they ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS. Hell, in the other Alien films at least the folks who got killed didn't have an idea what was going on until it was too late. In AVP Requiem all these potential victims are READY not for 'anything', but FOR ALIEN BEINGS INTENT ON KILLING THEM ALL. It's the biggest, most awful bit of the script-as-such in this film. Perhaps some kind of political statement is being made about the National Guard showing up and nobody else, before they all get slaughtered by a single Alien. Perhaps if they acted as ready and tense as the major characters they'd have survived. The writers should go back to their former jobs of getting coffee and donuts. AVP Requiem should have the prints and script destroyed, if not the morons who put this together. It's not worse than Battlefield Earth, mind you, but that film was squeezed out of the butt of L Ron Hubbard, rubbish science fiction writer and mind-control cult leader. The crap that is AVP Requiem is a pile of crap haphazardly squeezed out of the asses of a committee.
