I've heard that both Moneypenny and Q will still be MIA from Bond 22, and that's sad. Just because they're dropping the goofier Moore/Brosnan gags for the Craig era, that's no reason to shaft these two definative characters. At the very least, they should have a dedication to Lois in the end credits, unlike how Desmond Llewllyen[sp?] shamefully got shafted when Die Another Day came out. Farewell, Miss Moneypenny. Hopefully you'll get to shag 007 rotten up in heaven...

The wedding sceen at towards the end of the film always gets me when Bond sees Moneypenny crying and he tosses his hat at her one last time catching it. Of course, stoutworth Q has to complain about the mistreatment of government property which breaks the ice, but its one of the most memorable moments that showed their affection towards each other. A grand lady who will be missed that was a part of all Bond afficianados.

There's also the scene where she smooths out the tension between 007 and M by changing his letter of resignation to one requesting a two week leave of absence. She never had a better role in any 007 film. She'll be sorely missed. Now, if they ever *do* bring Moneypenny back into the series...who should play ber? Samantha Bond is played-out.

Totally uncool. Barbara Bouchet may have been hotter, but Lois was easily the best Moneypenny ever. RIP.

Sad to hear, but she certainly had a good innings, living longer than both the original Q and M.

This is such sad and terrible news that a great actress has passed away. Not only was she instrumental in making the Bond Character recognizable the world over she was also responsible in making a character just as Iconic as Bond. She will be missed. Good bye Miss Maxwell :(

I'm from Perth Australia. She had spent the last five years here doing a lot of charity work for Fremantle hospital who had cared for her.

That look on Moneypenny's face when she catches Bond's hat spoke volumes without a single word. Rest In Peace, Lois.

was the greatest single shock in the history of scary films, bar none. And she took what could have been a throw-away part as Moneypenny and gave it class and sass. And she was hot! God bless you, Lois you've earned your rest.

You were so much better than the prickly Samantha Bond. In fact, you've been the hardest act to replace in the entire Bond canon.

Had the occasion to meet her when she came to New Orleans, appearing at Tulane University in the mid-80's. She was charming, funny, approachable, self-deprecating, and so much more than she ever got to show onscreen. We had edited a video of the Moneypenny scenes from 'Dr. No' through 'View To A Kill,' which was at that time, the current Bond film (and one which, she already suspected, would be her last). Seeing her scenes back-to-back, when it got to the OHMSS wedding, you could hear a pin drop as Bond tossed Moneypenny his hat. She had so many great anecdotes about making the movies--how she was originally supposed to play Sylvia Trench, gone by the third movie--how the first film where she got to keep her costume (it was finally in her contract!) she wore that horrible policewoman's uniform. But my favorite anecdote was how she flubbed the line introducing her "replacement" in 'View To A Kill,' Miss Penelope Smallbone, mis-pronouncing the name on the first take as "Smallbush." They almost couldn't finish the scene because every time she started to say the name, somebody would giggle and set everyone off. "Not a bad half hour of film," she quipped when the video retrospective ended. Not bad, indeed. She took what could have been a forgettable part and turned Moneypenny into one of the most beloved characters in the history of film. God bless and good rest, Lois Maxwell, and thank you from film fans everywhere for living part of your life on camera.

During a news segment of Lois Maxwell's death, they showed a clip of her with her successor,Samantha Bond,at some promotional event. That the older actors in the franchise were able to gracefully pass the torch to younger people added nicely to the series. One of the irritating things about the franchise reboot was the refusal to use any of the established supporting characters other than M and Felix Leiter.Especially after John Cleese was more or less handed the baton by Desmond Lewellyn's Q in his last appearance in the films.
