Hey...so, I used to watch the lead in Eastenders, something that's making her new character not sit too well. However, I think she'll shake that off and make some damn good US telly. LD

Her fighting abilities are programmed into her or some other "techno-babble" explanation so that they are instinctual, like how she was able to disarm the guy in the alley without even thinking about it. In any case, she doesn't really have to learn how to fight, just how to control her bionics better, which I guess in the span of the episode, she did.

He panned...“Life,” which earned a strong 4.1 rating to win the 10 p.m. hour and rank as the third best-rated new show. “Life” topped the season premiere of “CSI: NY” (3.7, down 26 percent from last year) and the debut of ABC’s “Dirty Sexy Money” (3.6, down 22 percent from the premiere of “The Nine” last year""

That Journeyman is the best new show. But I have to hand it to Chuck, for a tv show it had some genuinely kick-ass action in it. Reaper was good but not great (oh but it so could be). Why Bionic Woman won't last
by JakeW
Sep 28th, 2007
05:44:16 AM
The reason that B.W. got the ratings it did was simply because of the massive advertising campaign that NBC had for the show (Who hasnt seen the trailer a million times)? Most viewers are not going to turn in the second week because their expectations were for a nostalgic recreation of what they grew up with in the 70's (or for something along the lines of what BSG turned out to be). Bionic woman is neither. Beyond the fact that the writing sucks, Bionic Woman has been plagued by huge problems throughout production. Glen Morgan walked off the show after a huge fight with Eick over the shows "direction". NBC pushed thru a consultant (Katims) whose suggestions are pretty much ignored, not to mention Smilovic coming in to try to redirect the horrific writing and problems NBC continues to have with it. I won't even go into all of the personality problems with people on the set or the fact alot of the gay people working with the show are upset over the addition of Isaiah Washington, who according to one person high up in the show isnt homophobic because ??!! he once dressed up as a woman for an acting part??!! The potential bionic woman had was great, but the reality of it is whats going to tank it quickly. No one wants to eat in an empty restaurant, and for all the advertising, special effects, great actors (Sackhoff, Ferrar, even Ryan) its pretty much empty.

Its a shame they chose Michelle Ryan to lead this show because she is a poor actress indeed. She used to be in a show called Eastenders which is renowned for its god awful acting here in the UK. I find it laugh out loud hilarious that some idiot thought she could actually lead a show (did they not research her previous work), I find it even funnier that someone on this TB said Katee Sackhoff could not of acted her roles in the UK, trust me anything but Michelle Ryan is an improvement! ...and please people stop saying she's gonna be the next BIG thing, i wouldn't kick her out of bed but she sucks at acting

Now, did it blow you away like the LOST, TWIN PEAKS and ALIAS pilots? No, but I saw enough potential there to hang in for a few episodes to see if things click. Shows like STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, ANGEL and BUFFY had shitty pilot episodes and then went on to decent runs, so all of you instant-gratification junkies need to pop a valium and relax a bit.

Oh, and Katee Sackhoff DOES look like the Joker, especially in that bar scene when she's wearing dark lipstick. And Series 7, don't knock clown porn if you've never tried it.

I thought the pilot was pretty good, but ditching the deaf sister was funny. The reason I forsee that the series is going to tank is that while the episode was good, it left me with a definite "been there, done that" feeling. standard episodic action series. limited multi-episode arcs and yeah, the dependence on BSG characters. The show has potential, so I hope I'm proven wrong, but its the network we're talking about here, they already tanked the deaf sister, probably just because the new one was hot. Oh and I noticed that they're portraying the sister as some sort of wannabe hacker. Any bets that a future episode will involve her hacking skills "saving" the day? It's stuff like that that make me think that as a continuing series, it's got nowhere to go but down.

Three Problems
by aufdemKiez
Sep 28th, 2007
10:03:37 AM
I haven't watched the premiere episode yet, but I did watch the pilot and I think there are three major problems with the show that I don't think they will be able to fix. 1. Michelle Ryan - She just doesn't have the sex appeal of a Jennifer Garner or Alba. If your going to have a show with weak writing you need a sexy lead and she just can't cut it. 2. Having a fiance - I mean where's the sexual tension. If you want to attract the female audience to a show like this you need some sexual tension between the main character and a potential partner. 3. Making her a bartender - What is she going to do, pour bionic bourbon and cokes. I had hope for this show and will hope they can salvage it, but it could have been so much better.
Why are so many people watching TV?
by Kid Z

Because most people seldom GET out... most of us (hey, I admit it) have no lives... what else are we gonna do after work? Going out clubbing and partying just doesn't work on weeknights if you have a full-time job. Also, let's face it, as Seinfeld once famously said, only about 5-10 percent of people out there are dateable, and I guarantee most of the regulars here on AICN are in that other 90-95 percent. All we want is some decent, cheap entertainment on the tube or in the theatres.

Katee would have made a better lead than Michelle but the real reason she stands out is that the Sarah character is more interesting than the Lindsey character. Which might be a problem down the line.

Poor Script
by criticalbliss
Sep 29th, 2007
01:50:20 AM
Bionic suffered from a poor script that had no sense of subtext, theme, or nuance. It was paint-by-numbers. It felt like the hack, Goyer wrote it. My biggest problem was the lack of a sense of trauma from her injury. There should have been a much longer period invested in her recovery and sense of powerlessness. Then, the added kick afterward of the sudden influx of bionics. Still, I see potential in the series if they can bring some good writers aboard. I fail to see the interest in the "bad" bionic woman, by the way. She was blander than the lead (who I think has a sense of vulnerability that might make for an interesting juxtaposition). Reaper was actually a fun show. Well written in a Buffy sort of way.
BSG sucks.

There, I said it. Horrible, thin-veiled parable of "modern" times. May it die quickly and with much suffering. Thanks.

The Bionic Women pilot was a mixed bag at best. But the fact that it still won its time slot should tell network exec's that there is a large audience out there waiting for quality Sci-Fi shows. I hope network TV takes the hint. Lord knows the Sci-Fi channel seems satisfied will only a couple of original quality shows. Strange for a network that is suppose to be dedicated to the science fiction genre.

As remakes go it was a vast improvement over Wagner's parachute jump accident pilot. Just what brand of rose-tinted glasses are some of you viewing the old series through? The old show sucked balls and the new one is 1000x better and has a superior story structure. I like the idea of an ordinary woman being made bionic who has to not only deal with her new-found strength but also has a highly-trained military bionic prototype who's also psychotic and after her ordinary ass. It'll make for a much better showdown when the newbie earns her stripes. Trust me, this show will get better.
1 season at best

Poor throughout. I kind of expected more from the BSG guys (which is generally stellar), the only decent aspect was the scene stealing performance of Katie Sackoff who clearly enjoyed being the baddie. It made me wish that the producers had waited until BSG wrapped up and cast her in the main role as she definitely has the chops to carry a show like this. Michelle Ryan was pretty vacant (to borrow a line from the Sex Pistols) the (replacement) super web hacker sister looks like an opportunity for product placement (was that an Ibook she had stashed away?...jesus writers do you even know a thing about hackers?), the scientist/boyfriend insipid and lackluster, the Asian ponytail in need of cutting, Eddie Izzard looking his scariest in drag (the likeness is uncanny no?) and Miguel Ferrer clearly happy to get a paycheck. The only reason to watch the show further might be to watch Sackoff eat the scenery when she makes her infrequent returns as a guest star. Doomed to failure unless there is a major turnaround.
TOO SOON!!!

Wow, how do you all know how this series is going to be after one episode? And to say, "It's not good" is one thing but what's with the hate?
you can't blame shit pilots on viewers

viewers shouldn't have to stick around for 5 episodes, just to figure out if a show is worth their time or not. Executives, creators and writers get paid a shitload to do pilots and there are plenty of people that don't get those opportunities that would likely do great. Authors need to hook readers on the first page, even the first sentence. People that make TV shows need to get that through their heads. It is almost as insulting as those poor movie executives blaming poor box office results on downloading and DVD and everything else but the quality of their product. If you can't entertain me out of the gate, somebody else can, and you lose. I don't owe you a bunch of do-overs.
The deaf tard had to go......

Come on, the deaf retarded chick had to go! If she stayed, Jaime would have had to get the cretin a bionic ear! Jaime got one for free, so why not her deaf goth sister/daughter/whatever the fuck she was. It would have been cool to see Jaime throw her bad attitude through some sheet-rock walls into the next building. Also, no one likes to watch handicappers on TV....and who would date one? I would have preferred they killed her off in the first episode....like this, Jaime yells "duck!" and the deaf tard eats a bullet, in and out, cause she can't hear shit. Hence, the emotional breakdown and a reason for Jaime to go after "the other side". Cool, now we got a hot chick playing the part, which oughta be good to rub off to.
Oh, forgot to say....

It would have been better if she tore a phonebook and they used the "dur dur dur dur dur" bionic sound.
