throw in some virtual reality to the premise too while you're at it please. hey and maybe there can be a scene where a girl is on ecstasy and thinks a vampire biting her neck feels really good, and then she's all 'oh shit it's a vampire'. also an amusing scene in which a vampire sucks the liquid out of a glow stick for some reason, and then in the next scene he is glowing in the dark and he becomes the life of the party.

I own like 400 horror DVD, but the only Hammer I have is Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires. They look great and they have great stars, but they're just too genteel to interest me. I appreciate their place in horror history and the influence they had, but to me, they're just a placeholder between the giant bug movies of the fifties and the sleazy exploitation of the seventies. Anybody agree?

It'd be making better sounding films than that.
I'd love to see Hammer back producing films again but I hope they'd be of a higher quality than that. What makes it worse is you know the title came first, and then the story idea followed. Because nobody today would think "I'm going to make a film set in the rave scene. With vampires. If only I had a title that'd fit"

By the way, is this site planning on being the only one not reporting on the latest 'State Of Play' casting? Helen Mirren and Rachel McAdams are in it. Dame Mirren taking on the role that Bill Nighy played in the BBC series. Which although wasn't my original choice (of Bill Nighy) I do think it's an outstanding call.
I LOVE the old Hammer films

05:13:38 PM
But the thing that made them unique was the way they pushed boundaries and took a new twist on the old Universal characters. I'm not sure what a "new" Hammer studios could do that would break new ground again, as they did back in the late fifties, sixties, etc. Hammer holds a special place in time, but they are as much a product of that era as anything else. I always get a warm fuzzy when I watch "Horror of Dracula" -- it reminds me of a great period of my childhood. However, sad as it is, "you can't go home again". I really don't think lighting will strike twice in the same place.

If it has lots of carriages, day for night, muttonchops by the bushel, and cleavage. Ingrid Pitt is nice coup, brings almost as much street cred as Lee. I do agree with the poster above, Sleepy Hollow is probably the best "modern" version of the gothic Hammer films. They should find a place for Lee though, if he would do it, Ive been waiting for news of his next appearance after bumming on his character getting axed from Sweeney. Lets hope this works better than Dark Castle's attempts (though I admit there are some guilty pleasure moments in those films).

I'm a little weary of the title "BEYOND THE RAVE" it sounds as if it could be a parody of "British B movies"...all though the Hammer films of yor have frequently had a "tongue and cheek" playfulness to them I think it would be a mistake for "Hammer" to go down the "B movie" road. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the average fan of the "Hammer" horror genera is a somewhat "mature" horror fan,and some of the "older" members of the audience may "get" the "homage" to those beloved horror films however the younger audience may find the premis of which the homage is based "stupid"...

Hammer is dead, Hammer is done, it's part if cinema history. All this is is some suits with money buying the Hammer brand name to plaster on whatever cheapie dtv shit they're making as a marketing gimmick. But the word Hammer, and a pissy cameo role for Ingrid Pitt does not a Hammer film make, not a true Hammer film anyway. The fact that, as far as I'm aware, none of the original stable of Hammer talent is in any way invlolved (though admittendly many have since died/retired), and that anything I've heard out of those involved with New Hammer has been spewed in predictable bite sized soundbites ala "Yes, we love Hammer. We love horror. We want to bring the magic back." bs.

I mean hey, I'd love to believe that we might see a return of the Hammer age of horror, but honestly, I think most of us realise that this is nothing but a marketing ploy.

It's the Everest of haunted house movies – not enough people have discovered it and the new Hammer probably doesn't have enough money of genius to do it properly. (Joel Silver and Warner's tried and failed with 1999's 'The Haunting', so we don't need to go through *that* again...)

Quatermass might be fair game, though. Only one film in that series – 'Quatermass and the Pit' – is worth anything, and even that could use an updating. However, that too, might require some deep pockets

Hammer had a look and feel to it. They ought to consider that when making this film. The soundtrack was key in the character of the film, for one. If this comes off like many of the low-budget/straight to DVD horror that is out there, then Hammer means nothing. Hammer means high quality horror to me.

Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (regarded by many critics as the best of Hammer horror films, director Terrance Fisher's favorite of his own work, and solidly my favorite Hammer flick) - Horror of Dracula (a little old-fashioned for some people's tastes, but Cushing and Lee are both great, and the final fight sequence is masterful) - Brides of Dracula (an interesting vampire played by David Peel, and Cushing is at his most charmingly genteel) - Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter (very funny, some cool action, and a brisk pace) - The Vampire Lovers (the first, best, and most tasteful of Hammer's Karnstein trilogy)
Women's hair
by Frank Rook

01:14:00 PM
Watching the Hammer movies recently, I've come to the conclusion that women of the past had superior hairstyles. Long, sculpted, and luxurious. Today's women have completely boring and unattractive hair. Short (relatively), straight, and boring. The dog's dinner. I'm so tired of seeing ponytalis and flip flops everywhere too.
Gotta agree with the common sentiment

01:15:53 PM
Without the creative forces behind the camera, and the talent in front of the camera, who produced the classic Hammer flicks (and most of those folks are long gone), simply having the studio's name on the project means nothing. I mean, Universal produced many of the greatest horror movies of all time in the 1930s and 1940s, but that didn't do anything to make "Van Helsing" or the new "Mummy" movies any good. On the off chance that something called "Beyond the Rave" might be any good, that would still come down to the talent of the folks involved, not the name Hammer on the production.
Agree strongly with Frank Rook

I'm a huge fan of 60s hair and make-up, and Hammer films and classic Bond flicks are some of the best places to find the styles that drive a fella like me mad.

The average dressed Hammer horror male makes the supposed well dressed man of today look like scum.

Also Pegg, Frost and even Coogan. They all love the Hammer films and their input would be priceless. Britain has the acting talent that far outweighs the capability of people like Sadie Frost. You only have to look at the "Dont" trailer, it shows that they get the look and feel of these films. They don't have to make them comedies, they could turn Hammer into a monster force for British film once again.
This is going to stink like an old corpse!!

Just WTF are these people thinking? Gotta agree with most of the posts about which direction these "new" Hammer movies should be going in. As Shoddywood is remaking movies all the time why doesn't this Hamfisted studio start revisiting the most popular back catalogue titles, namely the Gothic ones? Kronos is a great suggestion. I'm afraid these dopeheads have just bought the Hammer name and don't have the same creativity as the old masters did. If they continue green-lighting crap like this they'll soon be selling the name to someone else. Hopefully they'll know what to do with the studio!!

Ms Frost getting a lot of stick... whatever u think bout her, poor girl's only in the damn thing for about 10 minutes (according to a mate of mine who was an extra) and she doesn't even have any lines...! Hasn't she suffered enough being married to Jude Law n'all ...?! ;-) "You want me to salute that pile of walking pus? Salute my ass!"

That's exactly what I was thinking. Captain Kronos is the bomb.It was obviously made with franchise potential in mind. On the commentary the director talks about the fact that the word KRONOS means time and that had they made sequels, each one would have taken place in a different time period with a kind of "reincarnation" of the main character. I would love to see a Kronos sequel (or hell, even a prequel. Who's to say the original film was the first incarnation of the character?) taking place in victorian France or WW 2 London. Either way, good news they're back on the playing field but scary at the same time considering the current state of film. The timing might be a little off.

Switzerland's entry in the EuroVision Song Contest for '07, DJ Bobo's "Vampires Are Alive". http://tinyurl.com/27arkq In truth, it DOES sound like it was cut from "Tanz Der Vampyr". With good reason.
