..."First Blood" being your first encounter with cinema?! At 10 years old? You would think all movies were about damaged Vietnam vets unleashing themselves on small towns. What a truly twisting experience.
Sounds cool!

No matter what this film is really about, five bucks says that paraphrases the session at which this film got greenlit.

So, Harry, when's you gonna get Sly back here for another Q and A? And what is the deal with the Willis one?

Sometimes - you just need to sit one out on the schedule - in this case - I so loved SON OF RAMBOW - that I wanted to write about it fresh and with the thoughts in my mind.

Sometimes you owe it to the movies you're watching to process and give your mind a break, before continuing on. Then other times - it's an orgy, like BNAT - just keep swallowing till it comes out over your bottom lip and stains your shirt!

i was anxiously waiting for son of rambow and it was fantastic. this is my first time at this festival but as i waited in line for this i imagined that we'd walk in to see a pre-show reel of rambo cartoons and as soon as they let us in--that's exactly what we got. i love that attention to detail!
Comparisons between this and Clowes script

I don't know why Harry seems to be unfavourably comparing this to Daniel Clowes 'Raiders remake' script. Son of Rambow has the better screenplay, hands down, and I doubt very much that the Raiders film will be the better movie. Very, very much.

I saw it in Toronto and was considerably less impressed than Harry. I know that puts me in the minority, but to me, Son of Rambow quickly degenerated from a fun, whimsical look at one kid's childhood to a cliched ABC After School Special about the power of friendship. By the end, it didn't matter that the kid was from a pious religious sect or that it was set in England or that John Rambo was prominently involved. It just felt really generic to me.
I second that, phoenixmagi!!!

I don't even really care about a Q&A (although the first one was unbeatably amazing), I want info on the MOVIE!!!

Yeah, Clowes is an awful screenwriter to be honest.

As someone who suffered through the entirely unpalatable "Art School Confidential," I can never be excited about anything scripted by Dan Clowes ever again.

Oh well, at least I have my old Lloyd Llewellyn comics, those still hold up. Shoulda stuck to the funnies, Dan...

Harry...think you might've gotten the names mixed up a bit. Joshua is the Brethren elder, William is the little boy Brethren and the imp with the camera was Lee (at least that's what it sounded like). Anyhoo, cute movie.

that art college programs are a total scam! The instructors and administrators are out of touch, yet the alumni program asks for more money. Clowes went to Pratt Institute, the same wretched hive of scum and villainy I graduated from.

This movie sucks... every joke is either some half-baked 80s nostalgia trip or someone falling on their face and/or getting hit in the head with some kind of object. Typical that Harry would praise this kind of ape-cage bullshit and then rave about There Will Be Blood... what's the point of having taste, anyways?

Seems like poor Harry is really fest-fatigued! Neil Dudgeon ('Joshua') is an adult British actor, not a child actor. The main child part, 'Will Proudfoot' is played by Bill Milner. 'Will' is 'Joshua's' son. The second main child part, 'Lee Carter', is played by Will Poulter. Even IMBD get these two mixed up on their photo captions. Someone at Paramount Vantage publicity ain't too swift.
