Is it based on one? And the quote from the reviewer about the "hottie Rhona Mitra" has me scratching my head in puzzlement as well.

Rhona Mitra is pretty hot; thought she was someone else. This review is disappointing as hell, the stuff I've seen so far looked pretty good, and who doesn't like 'The Descent'???

There should be a category above spoiler, for when someone basically gives you the entire story from start to finish.

was that a review or cliff notes version of the film?

...we need opinions, not blow-by-blow descriptions of the film. We just want to know if it's any good - we don't give a shit what colour the actress playing the lead's arm hair is. Fuck.
Christ what a horribly written review.

And I'm not just saying that because I love Neil Marshall and want this guy to be wrong about Doomsday.

"London/Scotland border"? WTF?

A gimp on a board "grunting for pain"?

That having been said, this does sound pretty bad - or rather, it's either going to be one of the worst movies ever or mind-bogglingly awesome.

So I didn't catch it in the theater unfortunately. I wound up buying it on DVD though and I realized people were stupid for knocking the film. I thought it was great personally. It was like Alien 1 for the 1st half of the cave scenes, then the rest of the movie featured some great action. And I really dug the original ending. Anyhow, I'm now down for whatever movie Marshall makes.

I don't know what else you have to do other than make the best straight horror movie of the last 10 years in order to cement your place. Sure, THE DESCENT wasn't a huge box office hit, but time will hold it up as a classic of the genre.
And Rhona Mitra...

Is one half of the "Carver" duo right? If it's the same chick, then yeah she is really hot. Marshall know's how to pick hot chicks. The woman who played Juno in The Descent was way hot.

Reading a bad review of this film may get me less interested in seeing it. But not *that* bad review. I stopped reading when it became clear they were writing a plot run-down and not a review. So for the time being this 'review' doesn't even exist to me. My interest in Doomsday remains the same as it did this morning.

This guy is an idiot! Marshall rules. Below is a review I found on imdbpro.. by momoyanks 1 day ago (Wed Sep 19 2007 19:24:10) Ignore this User | Report Abuse ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------------------- So apparently we were the first audience to see the unfinished product. The director, Neil Marshall and filmmakers were there, (i thought that was really cool). I am usually not into bloody and violent type films, i love drama pieces but I have to say the movie was great! It had everything u could want outta a film, a good story (very well told), action, drama, twists and turns, and the characters were memorable. I enjoyed the entire film including the violent and really gory scenes, in fact, it kinda made the movie for me. It was gross out/funny/shocking. Lots of blood, guns and killing. It started with a very brief Outbreak like story to transition into full on action (Escape From New York is the only movie I could compare it 2). It took u from modern day to an underworld to an almost medieval setting. I can not tell u how much i enjoyed it, maybe cause i went into it with no expectations and it was different from anything I've seen (but i don't watch horror). I actually thought it was a popular video game turned movie, I was really suprised (in a good way) cause i really never thought i could enjoy a movie like this and now I have to watch Neil Marshall's other films. I would recommend it to anyone, especially my male friends. It's gonna be a huge movie. If anyone else was there or has seen it please post, I wanna hear what evryone else thought.

I stopped reading halfway through the synopsis. But as someone who thought DESCENT had one of the scariest first 45 minutes in film history, before descending (no pun intended) into ridiculous cheese when the creatures showed up, this movie sounds ridiculous. Even conceptually, it sounds like hack work. Maybe all that hype for Marshall was premature. And the title sucks, too.

If by "the original ending" you mean the downbeat one, then that's actually the official ending of the film in every part of the world except the United States.

As for people dissing The Descent, I've found that they almost always consist of hopeless cinetard dumbasses who say things like "it was too dark" or "I couldn't tell which girls were which".

...looks for the exit, find it & go. Seriously. In fact, you might want to avoid the one marked "Entrance" too. This is not hastily written with typos, this is just a poor writer. Glad to see you haven't given up your day job. Obviously one that didn't require basic secondary education qualifications like English & geography. I'm not making excuses for the film but it is at a VERY rough stage, it has not been scored yet & it is different from his previous efforts. It's certainly not boring & the studios have been good enough to stand back for the most part & let Neil put his vision to screen. Clear your mind of his previous work, don't go expecting "28 Weeks Later", zombies or any of the other misconceptions on the IMDB noticeboards & you might discover a little cult gem like we used to get in the 80's.

First off...SYNOPSIS...fuck, that was practically the script without dialog. Second off, I've seen this movie, or at least a rough cut. Yes, it is completely ridiculous, but it is also fucking awesome. It basically goes from 28 Days without Zombies/Outbreak to Escape from New York to Robin Hood to Road Warrior. And to me, that makes a sweet fucking movie. I am also not the hugest DESCENT fan. So I'm not just stroking Marshall off here.

Doomsday sounds like shit, gawd - if I want to see Escape from NY or 28 days later again I'll just slip the DVD's in. Here's to hoping this reviewer is totally wrong and that Marshall can pull it all together to make an interesting mish-mash of a film. PS - The Descent is overrated (IMHO). Giant Fluke-Worm type monsters running around in the dark, c'mon - give me a fuckin' break, what am I two? (I swear, I sat there and thought - this is like an X-File episode except without Mulder and Scully) And I'd dump the crusty bitches in Descent for 70's era Sigourney Weaver in panties in Alien any old day (theys' bitches just aint got no class). Dog Soldiers was plenty fun though.

Its like a week goes by and suddenly everyone's a cannibal. You think there'd be more food because there's less people to eat it. Isn't there any SPAM in Scotland?

Try some of that before you go eating everybody. There's soda too you know.

My problem with Doomsday was the action, and a small section of the film that turned into Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Marshall pays tribute to George Miller and John Carpenter all in one but misses the mark with the action scenes and the silly portion with knights. The movie's score even has alot of John Carpenter sounding music similar to Escape from New York, which was cool. Then, the climatic chase right out of the Road Warrior was pretty cool too. I didn't mind the story being silly, but if you do silly sci-fi movies make the action as cool as possible and that's the problem with Doomsday. Not enough hand to hand combat with the lead actress, once she fights it's all wide shots with stunt person then skip to closeup of actress then another wide shot. I hate when action is done that way, it's so uninvolving. For example, the chick from The Matrix, all of her fights were filmed with wide shots all the way through so you could see it was the actress doing the fight, minus a tiny couple here and there. Marshall films all the fights from trick camera angles and edits in the lead actress with close ups. Then, the final chase, it's all done with sped up filming, not actual stunt people flooring it. For example, The Bourne Ultimatum that car chase was all real, not one part was sped up. Doomsday makes the cars look like they're going faster than what they are. There's a scene where she does a 180 in the car but it feels slow compared to the 180 Damon did in Bourne 3. The section with the knights should have either been cut out or done way more cooler than what they did with it. I didn't hate Doomsday, but they need to work on the action alittle bit better next time. Oh! the head bad guy was good, but needs more screen time. 7 out of 10
