They are casting right now. No script has been released. They won't even tell people which characters they are auditioning for. The screen-tests are being done with scenes from other movies. It's very early days, so news is going to be slow in coming.

I enjoyed the one Batman episode that was an homage to Frank Miller, but that's the only good episode that comes to mind. I couldn't stand the Legion of Superheroes show. I guess not everything can be up to the level of Batman: The Animated Series.

I grew up with the Bruce Timm series and in my mind thats always the best incarnation of all the characters (especially Robin, who I cant stand elsewhere)-although I wasnt fussed about Catwoman in it...too toned down in her nastiness with all those animal rights adventures, Burtons version was better. "The Batman" seems a bit of a mess-its too childish, silly, too aimed at young teens and the theme tune is rubbish. Plus they know they cant beat Timm's incarnation which is why their Batman seems to look eerily similar to the one form the 90's. However their revamps of the other characters are atrocious-the Joker is, ironically, a joke, the Riddler is quite imaginative but doesnt work and the rest...well, suffice to say I cant watch it that much cos I get pissed off and turn over halfway through.

Why has AICN totally ignored the JLA news/rumors? They will post 1-18-08 rumors or show a picture of a bus destroyed by the Hulk, but won't mention any of the JLA news. Yesterday it was pretty much confirmed Welling is out for Superman and that there may even be a chance for Routh to reprise his role in JLA since the Man of Steel movie has been delayed apparently to make room for JLA movie. Ryan Gosling is also rumored to be a contender for Batman. I was hoping Welling would play Superman, but what can you do.

From what I have been reading on IESB and Bluetights.net, Batman will only be shown, not Bruce Wayne. I'm not sure about Gosling for it either. I sure don't want a big muscle rubber suit used to bulk him up. Yesterday they finally officially announced George Miller was the director on board for this. It will be a regular movie, not motion capture like some had stated before. I've got my fingers crossed they will do this right. I'm a sucker for a superhero movie.

At first "The Batman" was a year one take on the character. He made mistakes and was new to the whole hero thing. It seems they pulled a "Smallville" and just wanted to introduce all the future villians/other heroes as soon as possible. I mean he already has 2 kid sidekicks? I like that it is a "reimagining" of Batman but it seems to be getting closer to the regular old version. Bring back Justice League. THAT was a good show.

I think some of the complaints stem from that fact...I guarantee that the vast majority of AICNs readers view this as the one of the most exciting projects ever and just want to see more "official" TBs put up to discuss some of the other news and rumors going on with this movie. You guys never had one mention of the motion-capture possibility with the exception of a sentence by Harry in a BEOWULF TB. I think you guys posted A LOT more early stage rumors about Superman Returns and Batman Begins - I think using that same search box would prove it.

A live action JLA movie is a great idea, but one that will completely subvert the work done in the other live action properties like Superman, Batman, etc. Having different actors playing the same characters in different films is only going to piss off the fanbase. Justice League has consistently been one of the top comics out of DC for years - I don't think anyone accuses the JLA comic of cannibalizing the Batman and Superman comics. Moviegoers aren't going to be pissed off because different actors may portray our heroes in different movies - if the movie is good and the acting is strong, that is ALL that the public will care about. Hell, a lot of times the public doesn't even need that (re: FF, FF:ROTSS).

I too miss JLU and Justice League, and have hope that in some way, even if it's a DTV movie we see the Timmverse again, but, Legion and The Batman are for kids, to sell action figures and happy meals. Sure they don't appeal to adults, they're not supposed to, Justice League did appeal to adults, and it wasn't supposed to, but it did. The writing was better obviously, so don't complain that these Saturday morning cartoons suck. Don't watch them, unless you're watching them with your kids. The Timmverse shows from the 90s were also aimed at kids and to sell toys and Happy Meals. The 200 Animated Series repaints (of just Batman) that I used to have on my walls prove it. There were thousands of toys or similar products released for all of those shows all over the world. Don't glamorize it by saying The Batman is just for kids and a toy commercial. You'll find countless interviews or audio commentaries from Timm and all of his assorted cronies saying over and over again that the old Fox show was a kid's show.

better. No longer is it the same old villain of the week story. On note villain shows up in Gotham. Batman figures out his M.O. and the two fight for the rest of the episode. Repeat for the entire first season. God that was awful. Still no B:TAS, but then again what is. I could live with the new character designs if they didn't make all the villains evil for evil's sake. In B:TAS each villain was just as interesting as Batman. In The Batman Mr. Freeze is a freekin' jewelry thief. There's no depth or humanity to these villains, they're just run of the mill crooks who happen to have superpowers. The show will never achieve more than mediocrity, but at least it's made its way that far since the first season was atrocious.

I liked the idea of a reboot which focused on a younger Batman/Bruce Wayne, who was just starting out. The addition of Batgirl before Robin worked well, too. But then the show quickly added Robin, and now it looks like the entire DC Universe is starting to be added -- WTF. Why didn't Warner Kids just start up a new JL series? Personally, I prefer my Batman as the loner. As for the JL movie version of Batman, why don't they cast an older actor and indirectly imply that the events of the movie take place several years (maybe 20 years) after the events of the Nolan/Bale movies? The fans and studio could then have it both ways: We get to see an older version of Bats (who will probably wear a different costume), and the JL movie's continuity wouldn't tread on that of the Nolan series.

I will not be watching the Legion of Superheroes again. It's not my cup of tea. It was definitely geared towards smaller children, but good for them for having a show to watch other than a japanese card game promotional. I didn't think The Batman was all too bad. Is one of my favorite characters of any genre. So I was not impressed at all with them revamping him a Kabuki looking kick boxer. During B:TAS and JLA they changed all their looks to one degree or another from season to season. I keep hoping The Batman Joker will get done correctly, but I also believe in Santa Claus. Joker being a skilled hand to hand combatent is a good thing, I think. In many a main stream Batman comic we've seen him beat Batman in a fist fight. But it's always been was fist fight, not kung-fu theater. This messed up version of The Joker is one prehensile tongue away from being The Toad from X-men: Evolution. It sucks.

I hate the villain designs. Then they changed a ton of things around. No Gordon. Instead a bunch of nobody cops. Then one of the cops (not named Matt Higgins) becomes Clayface? Now Batman is calling Superman "not very talkative"??? WTF! The whole dynamic is changed. Supes is supposed to be the boyscout. Bruce is the scowling, brooding one of the group. Then the JLA was founded without Superman? Superman founds the JLA. That's his thing. It's the most admirable thing about Superman that he unites the heroes together. Bruce is supposed to be the outsider. This doesn't work for me at all.

I, for one, loved it. I have all the Dini/Timm stuff from the beginning on VHS and DVD. I have animation cells, autographs, the whole nine yards. I remember watching Superman cartoons and Batman cartoons and Aquaman cartoons on channel 5 out of New York and WPHL17 out of Philadelphia. Sure WB is in it for the money, they ARE a business. But saying that Timm's stuff is the definitive take on the Batman is like saying that Neil Adams should only be the one that pencils Batman or Frank Miller should be the only one. These characters will be reinvented over and over again for different audiences and different sensibilities. I share the dislike of the Joker's original character design, and I really don't care for the voice characterization, but as the seasons have progressed, the more familiar purple pinstripe tux and tails has appeared, and the dreads have given way to a more wild shaggy hair. The fact that a lot of people are still pontificating about this particular fact doesn't really give me the impression that they have a lot of room to talk about the current state of the show. While I loathe Hercules' slavish devotion to everything even remotely connected to Buffy ("I was out with Jane Espenson and she wiped with Charmin so IT IS THE BEST

The show has gotten better as it progressed; it is not a classic series, and it will be forgotten once it is over (unlike the B:TAS universe Batman). The best thing of the new series was the way they made Clayface; indeed, it was of the level which I thought was better than B:TAS and put even more umph to the character. What I don't like is how some of the characters of the past are now MIA.

I have to agree with Stalkeye. This thread made me go look up the season finale and opener of The Batman, which I don't watch, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. After the huge let down that was Superman: Doomsday, I can hardly complain about this. And as for bitching about the way characters in new stories are SUPPOSED to be? I don't really mind that Batman was trying to convince Superman to join the league. These stories get re-written over and over, and only through trying again and again do some eventually end up better than others. Paul Dini wrote an episode for The Batman in which Harley Quinn is introduced to the series, and rumor has it that it might be both different and better than the original. It's next on my list.

They ordered "Justice League Unlimited" shut down and ordered the "Crisis" stuff in the comics these past few years to tie into the re-launch of Batman and Superman movies. They have restricted characters from appearing on "JLU", "The Batman", and even "Smallville." In other words, if you are not a male MOVIE director you do not have total creative freedom. As for the shows, they are OK. The producers have implied that the first season of "The Batman" was a mistake and have done a decent job of digging out of that hole. These shows are what they are: shows geared towards kids born after 1996.------later----m

The opener didn't suck at all. The Batman seemed to be created to sell toys at first, now it seems to want to tell stories. Who really cares if the stories have been told already. What bothers me most about the movies and cartoons is: If all of this destruction was really happening...wouldn't other "heros" show up? Let's see more stories like that.
