Killing off all the supporting characters was not the right way to go? Of course, now they have to do some sort of ridculous, voodoo magic explanation for why he's not dead. Here's a thought: maybe you shouldn't have killed him in the first place. It wasn't shocking. And it wasn't super cool. Any moreso than when you killed off Edgar or Curtis or Ryan (ok, that was cool).

What? You gotta be fucking kidding me! They had the sheet over top of him and everything! He as checked out by CTU staff and Jack was crying about it! WTF?!?! I've already lost faith (due to last season's just absolute badness), but not my belief in this show. However, that belief is going to be sorely tested with this news... But I liked Tony anyway, so this is going to be okay... will it?

but only because i wish i had been surprised when i saw him pop up on screen. The Tony reveal in season 3 I guess it was, was pretty friggin awesome. "who are you calling" "the only person i can trust". When Tony stepped in and blew away the terrorists of the week, I literally jumped out of my seat and pumped my fist. Sigh. I miss when 24 got my blood pumping like that

I hope this isn't going to be some cheap stunt to boost rating in first couple of episodes. I can almost see it now, Jack is facing certain death and at the last minute Tony jumps out of the bushes and catches a bullet meant for Jack, then Tony keels over dead. Of course jack will pause for a second to make the squinty eye gassy face he always makes when someone close to him is killed, but only for a second because Jack has people to save dammit!
WTF?

I think the circumstances surrounding Tony's reappearance are simply a case of "last season sucked and we lost viewers". I don't buy for a minute that this was some overall plan, because there was nothing to give us the thought that Tony was alive...except, of course, for the ticking clock instead of a silent one, which I always attribute to Fox's stupidity. I don't know what to think about this. Yeah, I'd love seeing Tony and Jack team up again and Carlos Bernard was a great addition to the show and was sorely missed last season. But I also think that in a show that likes to pride itself on being edgy and gritty and unexpected, it's a copout to bring back a character we figured was dead. I don't know how they can even logically explain this except to just pray and hope we don't ask too many questions. And if Heroes winds up having another strong season, my favorite show may have already lost a viewer because of the debacle that was Day 6.
I don't fucking believe it. Seriously.

I was bummed out when virtually all the longtime cast members got whacked in Season 5. I don't think most of the character deaths on 24 add much to the drama, anyway. The most resonant death on the show for me has been Chapelle because of how the situation exposed what everyone assumed was a bad guy as a good guy deep down, and it didn't feel at all like the writers cheated. If 24 could give every death that sort of drama, I'd be okay with the body count, but so often interesting characters seem to get killed off for simple shock value. If Tony is back, bring him back to stay.

I mean, realistically it's sucky and contrived bringing back a dead character like this, but I hated the *way* he went out even more than I hated the *fact* that he went out at all (which was a lot), and it'll be great to have him back. His re-entrance in Season 4 was one of the great moments in TV for me.

The innovative, addictive, Emmy Award-winning television series "24" resets the clock for Season Seven with a special two-night premiere event Sunday, Jan. 13 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Monday, Jan. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Fox. In keeping with Fox's commitment to airing original programming year-round, the intense season will unfold in "24's" regular 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT time period beginning Monday, Jan. 14, and will continue to air all originals all season into June. "Day 7" of "24" will continue the show's unique and trend-setting format with compelling new elements. With CTU dismantled, the show's setting moves to Washington, DC, where Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) faces trial for his actions in the pursuit of justice. Bauer's day gets off to a shocking start when former colleague Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), last seen in "Day 5," returns after being left for dead by a terrorist conspirator in CTU's infirmary. "Tony's uncertain fate near the end of 'Day 5' left the door open for his return," said executive producer/show-runner Howard Gordon. "And since there was no silent clock at the conclusion of his last appearance the '24' tribute to a major character's demise we always kept this as a possibility." Bernard's return highlights a list of notable cast members clocking in for Season Seven, including the previously announced Cherry Jones as President Allison Taylor and Janeane Garofalo as FBI Agent Janis Gold. Colm Feore will play First Gentleman Henry Taylor and Bob Gunton is White House Chief of Staff Ethan Kanin. FBI Agents assigned to the team investigating the crisis befalling Bauer include Garofalo's Agent Gold in addition to Annie Wersching as Agent Renee Walker, Jeffrey Nordling as Agent Larry Moss and Rhys Coiro as Agent Sean Hillinger. John Billingsley portrays security specialist Michael Latham. Although CTU is no longer, Chloe O'Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and Bill Buchanan (James Morrison) are back for another momentous day of shocking events.

Maybe for the second half of this season, or next season, Tony could take over. Another gimmick idea would be to depict Jack's and Tony's activities running in parallel to one another via split screen. Basically, I think this show needs a fresh start and new approach, and turning Almeida into an equal-parter/protagonist to Jack would have the potential to amp up the excitement in a more innovative manner.

As much as I loved the Tony character, and as much as I hated his 'demise'...I don't know, I just don't know about bringing him back this way. And if it's at the beginning of the season, the silliness factor of a soap-opera style resurrection will set the tone for the rest of the season. How are they going to pull this off without everyone rolling their eyes? Or will he be seen in a flashback a la Lost? Or will it be his funeral, and his corpse snickers like Jimmy Fallon in an SNL sketch? Or will they prop him up like a post-suicidal Antony on an Egyptian throne with a pistol in his hand and a phone that keeps going off without being answered? DAMNIT!!!

I love 24, and I make no apologies for that fact, but this is the lamest thing they've ever done. If anything can get 24 back on its feet after that faltering sixth season, it's Tony Almeida. Hopefully, they'll keep him around for the long run. Who else to take over as leading man on the show, if ever they were to kill off Jack Bauer, always a bizarre possibliity? It would be interesting if Almeida took the lead for just one season. Either way, he always felt integral to the show. I think it's great that they're bringing him back. If only they could do the same for Michelle Dressler. She was awesome.

now we're talking! i've long held that Tony was still alive. no silent clock, plus his death was just ambiguous by 24 standards: an injection? c'mon. like i said before: we don't know what he was injected with, we don't know how much of a dose he got, we don't know how deep the needle penetrated and if he got a dose in a vein, in the muscle tissue, body fat, etc. and we've all seen the news stories where someone wakes up in the morgue and freaks all the doctors out. it is very possible for Tony to be alive, no shark jumping required.

but i gotta say... i am PISSED that fucking Fox chose to spoil this in A FUCKING PRESS RELEASE MONTHS BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN AIRS!!! most likely they are just trying to build up their audience again after so many people jumped ship after last season, but c'mon! how cool would it have been to be watching the premiere and have Tony fucking appear when no one was expecting it? that would have been a hell of a moment and now Fox ruined it!

still, i gotta say season 7 is shaping up to be a winner. also glad to see Bill coming back! have some faith people and lets see what the premiere brings. can't wait to see that Cubs mug again!

I'm with you guys that this is great news for 24...I'm actually surprised that they brought him back (must've had the fox interns scrollinjg through AICN). BUT, the whole 'he's only going to be in the first few episodes' thing scares me...and when you think about it, there might just be a logical explanation. Think about it. Jack's in D.C., facing a committe that might possibly bring him up on charges, and the panel is going over all of his missions (from operation Nightfall/ before the show begins all the way to season six), he's thinking about the times and the people and his co-workers, and then BAM..... A 'Lost' style flashback that plays in between the season 7 action showing him and Tony working together on a mission, circa 1999-2000(right before the timeline of the show's reality). That would explain why Carlos Bernard would only be in the first few hours (unless the producers are just fuckin' wit' us). But I hope that he'll continue with the show for the full two-year run.
Who the hell cares how they bring him back?

The truth is, as much as many of us love 24 and HATE to say this, last year was utter crap -- a true 5 turd rating. Talk about a total waste of an entire season that went completely nowhere and had some of the shittiest writing ever.

So frankly I don't care how they bring back zombie Tony. I'm sure they'll toss out some excuse that they think is clever, but whether it makes sense or not this is one instance where my mind will turn off and gloss over it and I'll instantly say "Yeah, whatever." The truth is bringing Tony back is the BEST news I've heard yet -- Fox and the Producers KNOW the fans wanted this -- and it certainly will help to generate some good will since the idea of Jack reporting to President Hillary already has this show in serious shit waters, and it hasn't even debuted yet. I mean, come on, a little reality check. How many Presidents are we supposed to have gone through in so few seasons? Why they just didn't keep Powers Boothe is beyond me. You went to the trouble of introducing him, he was good in the role, so why not keep SOME continuity going?

Oh, that's right, it's 24. We have to have yet ANOTHER new President so we can do the whole "bad President" and conspiracy at the highest levels crap all over again. As if THAT storyline hasn't gotten pretty fucking stale on 24 as well...

Another desperate move.

and let's face it, the show needs a whole lot more than the return of a *dead* beloved character for a handful of episodes to save its ass. This sort of revisionist history only makes the producers look worse.

Kim & Chase were Nuked in Valencia ?
by Regis Travolta
Sep 20th, 2007
03:52:12 AM
At the start of Day 5 Jack asked about Kim and Chase because he had been hiding for 18 months and avoided all contact with Kimbo. He wanted her to think he was dead remember? I think Chloe or Bill told Jack that they moved to Valencia living happily there. But -- When the nuke went off in Day 6 it was in Valencia! Therefore Kim and Chase most likely were killed. Sure they could've been out of town that day but isn't that unlikely? Well no apparently not. If Tony can come back then Kimbo and Chase can also come back. How about Mandy? Certainly. She got a Presidential Pardon at the end of Day 4. What this show really needs is to bring back Nina! She was the best villain ever. Can she have an evil twin? A twin even more evil than she was? Sarah Clarke deserves another go-round on 24 she rocked.

Seriously, it has. I've still not watched season 6 yet - going by reviews/reports, I may not actually bother... but the return of Tony in season 7 guarantees I'll be watching. Personally, I think 24 has had its day and the new season will really need to shake it up to maintain my interest, but if they decide to reintroduce Tony and then give Bernard his own Tony Almeida P.I. spin-off series, then that would be great. In fact, that's what 24 should become... or at least a Starsky & Hutch style show with Jack and Tony both taking centre stage.

...it's no sillier than the way Jack faked his own death in order to fool the Chinese. If that had occurred off-stage, we would have all groaned at how stupid it would be seeing Jack return.

The real trick here is not finding a WAY to fake the Tonemeister's death, but rather finding a plausible REASON for it.

What must be obvious is that it was either an official CTU project or something concocted by a core group within CTU. No way did he just wake up and fuck off on his own.

I was insanely angry at how lame and pointless the death of Tony Almeida was. It almost turned me off of 24 for good. Seriously, the sixth season suffered mainly because there weren't any good characters left. Without them, how could the story be that great. That's what people failed to realize I think. Season 5 basically fucked every season after it by killing all the god damn characters. This gives me some hope for season 7.

Season 5 kind of reminds me of that old Bugs Bunny cartoon where Daffy Duck (I think) is trying to impress the talent agent. He tries everything but then finally, he takes this potion and he explodes. The talent agent says "that was FANTASTIC!" and Daffy says "I know.. only trouble is, I can only do it once". He was, of course, dead.

Suggestion/question: Do many of you watch the syndicated version on A&E? It's about 1/3 into Season 4 now - I've seen every episode of the series but these; I started watching about halfway through Day 4. Every day after an episode ends I shake my head in disbelief at how amazing this show is. Anyway, should we discuss the daily A&E shows? Irony: Tony just came back in yesterday's ep; today FOX tells us he'll return again in Day 7.

President Logan and wife and Aaron Pierce: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. coming back for no reason last year. The Cougar. Deasmond as a German Agent.
