I guess '300: The Movie Based on the Hit Number' was kinda like 'Conan', but I prefer more individual battles over giant war scenes. So I'll see that Wolfhound movie.

Again - I saw this in Edinburgh in April as well at Dead by Dawn. Totally agree with the "B-Movie is the best way" description. The first act is the best though, when you don't really know whats happening yet and the film rewinds a couple of times to show different peoples POV on the train when the lights first go out. Pretty smart for "just" a B-movie.

Kind of surprising in this day and age of remake crazy Hollywood. This year would have been the 25th anniversary for Conan(I think it was 1982). I have to say of all the Arnold Schwarzenegger movies out there this is the only one I would really care to see remade.

matches up to Basil's. They should have just used his! It seems fitting that there are a good number of Russian films this year since I will be standing in line so much at the Fest. At least the line will be for a great flick and not a loaf of bread. Thanks for the recommendations Massa I was having a hard time choosing but most of these are already on my list.

Ironmuskrat, you don't want a Total Recall remake? I do

I would love to see this movie redone with better casting. Arnie was the worst possible choice for that movie. This was another movie where he plays an average American Joe who happens to be a towering bodybuilder with a thick Austrian accent. Verhoeven's direction was good for the time, but this would be at the top of my remake list. I'd love to see it redone with Ryan Gosling and maybe some Luc Besson type behind the camera.

I agree Spandau, I would love to see a remake of Total Recall. I won't say I hated the movie, but Total Recall was a very flawed movie for me. Not the least of which was the very thing you mentioned, Arnold was totally not pulling off the confused, average guy, just trying to figure everything out part. He is suppose to be a construction worker, but lives in a nice apartment with a super hot wife(Sharon Stone back when she was a hot piece of tail).

Also Verhoeven still seemed to be channeling Robocop when he directed Total Recall, to the point where it was distracting. Hell he even had Ronnie Cox back playing the exact same character from Robocop only with his named changed.

But I agree, Total Recall was different actors and a more subdued director would be very interesting.

Hmm... not seeing The Girl Next Door on the lineup...

...to check out most of these movies. Especially End Of The Line and Dog Bite Dog. I rented Backwoods simply because of the cast, unfortunately it was a piece of crap. I don't know if it was, but it felt like one of those horrid spanish cross breeds Stuart Gordon is always involved in.

I have to echo the sentiments of those who've praised your avatar, MW. It made me smile. On another note: Two years ago I moved from Austin to LA, and what I miss most are the movies. How fucked up is that? (But just try to get a beer at the Arclight!) And Fantastic Fest is exactly the type of thing I mean. Screw this mess. I don't care if I CAN get booze on Sunday morning, I want to move back to Austin!

Saw this on DVD in Australia 6 months ago. It's really still doing festivals? I saw it with subtitles (most is in english anyway) and really I thought it was half-baked. The set-up is good but Paddy COnsidine plays one of the most annoying, morally-bankrupt whiny characters ever. The characters on a whole are very irritating and there are large flaws in logic, where the characters just seem to do things to progress the story and I found myself screaming "Why don't you just do THIS, and the problem will be solved!" It does have some tense scenes but I was disappointed given the calibre of the actors.

Why does everyone love off this paddy considine dude so much. What the fuck has he ever done? I obviously must be watching the wrong movies (yes, I saw him in Hot Fuzz, nothing special, I could have stood there with a fake moustache acting like a west counrty cunt). Guess I'll just go watch total recall until they remake it with Paddy "The Fucking Man According To AICN (who also think we give a shit about a sex and the city movie - finger on the fucking pulse guys)" Considine. Someone please enlighten me as to why this guy is being heralded as the new messiah.
