Not a single one of those Fall shows peaked my interest. This is what we get to replace an Aaron Sorkin show? A bumbling nerd with national secrets in his head or a cockney wide girl in a remake of a shit show?

Yeah, I'm just messin' with ya. But the long string of "bests" could use a few "worsts."

why couldn't they just do season 2 of Thief, and bring in A. Anderson as Antwone...once The Shield wraps up, they ought to spin off all the characters like that. Tell Jay Mohr to f off, and put dead Lem into Ghost Whisperer...12 months later that shit would be up for emmys, instead of just being a cock-teasing punchline.
I dig James Spader, but his win is indefensable...

Though 13 percent of the nation's critics disagree with me, this is NOT the worst new show of the fall. I'll let you know when we get there.
Can't they just replace it with Drive?

I can definitely empathize with Herc's feelings. For all the "from the streets of New Orleans" hype, this is very much a generic cop drama, and each episode's plot could be dropped into any U.S. city and not suffer for it in the least. The main problem is that the writers are all in L.A. and have no actual New Orleans experience. So they write in the few things they "know" about New Orleans culture: gumbo, jambalaya, swamps, corrupt officials, the Superdome, Bourbon Street. It's a shame, because this series had great potential for originality, but Fox went in a different direction. That being said, it's not a terrible show. It's a generic cop drama. Anthony Anderson's character is very likeable, and Cole Hauser's character has some interesting developments in later episodes. And the episodes are getting better as we go along. If people are willing to stick with it long enough (we'll see about that...it goes up against the season premiere of "Heroes" next week). My main reason for wishing for its success is because each episode puts $2-3 million directly into the city's economy, which is sorely needed right now. So, root for it for nothing else but that. Help out a struggling city, because our government officials certainly aren't.
Man. That saddens me even more.

I really hope they turn this series around. I think it could be a nice alternative to the usual crime, cop, law, what have you shows. New Orleans has got so much character.

The potential for this show is amazing given the real situation New Orleans is in. But instead of making a realistic cop show set on the streets of a struggling but unique city, we get generic t.v. with highly implausible "only on television" crime with little resemblance to New Orleans. I guess that's what happens when a studio has creative control.

Just like Doctor shows, there have been so many dozens and dozens of cop shows over the years that you really have to do something unique to make them stick around and succeed. When the highest praise anybody can come up with for it is that it's a 'generic cop show', then it'll be a miracle if this thing sees November.

Anderson as Antwon was a scary mofo on The Shield. Too bad they're going to waste his talents on this.
And speaking of good actors of the African-American variety, when the hell does season 5 of The Wire begin? I want me some Bunk and Omar.

it sounded like crap when i heard the title, then when i found out it was going to be set in post katrina louisiana i was mortified...not out of shock but more out of the old "milking the cow" syndrome many shows do, find something the public found distressing and set a show there ....woulda been one of the regular shows, cop show, doctor show, csi show, all would have been silly.....anyways anthony anderson cant carry his own weight let alone a television series....his role in transformers was perfect, he was fat, comic relief..best he can do, sorry....if u saw him in scary movie 3 and 4 u would understand. llol

Is it Wiggum and Skinner?

It's on Fox eh... well then I'm sure we'll learn a lot about dubiously demolished public housing, FEMA stiffing people with valid flood insurance but no money for lawyers with the claim that their homes were destroyed by wind damage, cuts in commie infrastructure spending leading to the unprecedented construction halt in the years before the flood, the 2-tier caste system forming in the new charter schools, that kind of thing. Thanks Fox! Man this stuff needs national attention. Harry Shearer has gotta be proud of his network for this one.

Yeah... I also wonder why there is a talkback on K-Ville and not Prison Break. Whatever. K-Ville was pretty painful to watch. I was laughing at how ridiculous the action sequences were... and how they would skip over parts of them. Like, whenever the bad guys would shoot some shit up and drive off, the next scene we would see was the cops right on their tail having a shoot-out with them. I'm like, HOW THE FUCK DID THEY GET OUT OF THE BUILDING, TO THEIR CARS, AND GET RIGHT UP ON THEM TO BE HAVING A SHOOT-OUT!? WTF! Yeah, skip over key parts of the action scenes, but show us every boring detail of useless and badly acted conversations. Ugh. I'm through with this shit too. When Heroes starts next week, it's over for this garbage.

Just gimme a 70's style cop show, without all the fancy swirling camera shots and over-saturated exposures! I kept waiting and waiting for this one to get better, but my re-run overloaded brain wouldn't let me turn it off! At least I got to see "the ladies" from Deal or No Deal earlier!

Last night in syndication in my area they showed the Simpsons with that 'Chief Wiggum PI' segment. Got me to wondering if that was a coincidence. I'd definately rather see that made into a full series than watch K-ville...

Where's the TalkBack for the best new show currently playing in our collective living rooms? I mean, could there be a more perfect marriage of star-to-material than David Duchovny to this hilarious, sharply-written anti-comedy? "I love women. I have all their albums." Pitch perfect, dialogue with bite and a heaping helping of gratuitous boobage - if you're into that sort of thing. I want the boxset to this series - like yesterday.

It also has to remind you that it takes place in New Orleans every five minutes just in case you've forgotten. There's like six references to Gumbo in the episode. It may be well intentioned but that town has been through enough already.
Tries to hard to be "authentic"
by Cruel_Kingdom
Sep 18th, 2007
10:54:03 PM
It references Katrina every two minutes, there are copious gumbo references, everyone has a French name... This show would have you believe that all they talk about in Nawlins is Katrina and FEMA. I know it's gotta weigh heavily on their minds, but Jesus H. Christ, surely they also talk about other things. One such instance: "[This car] cost me two FEMA checks..." Gimme a fucking break. And the ending was shit. You're telling me there are NO COMPUTER FILES OF NEW ORLEANS CRIMINALS ANYWHERE? Not even in the National Database? Bullshit. We're supposed to believe that in New Orleans they only kept paper files? This is shit.
K-Ville drinking game suggestions

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to laugh every time there was an unexplained jump cut into the action. As in, a car speeds by, spraying a building with bullets, while the heroes hit the floor and broken glass falls all over them. Not one second later, the speeding car is turning the corner . . . and the heroes are speeding along 50 feet behind them in their own car! This is comedy gold, and surefire drinking game material.

Every forced NO reference also deserves a drink. Maybe "requires" is the right word. There are only so many random "I need some gumbo" comments you can take.

Anyway, this show had me laughing more than I expected. And more that the writers expected, too, I'll bet...

But wasn't authentic enough. This should should be gritty and about the characters, not glossy and about car chases. I might watch it again but it's got a long way to go. The characters aren't bad but the focus is way off.
