I actually have zero interest in this story.

I just keep refreshing the home page, waiting with my geek obsessive-compulsive disorder in full demonstration, for another Tron story. I don't have a Tron suit like the Tron guy, but I love me some Tron. They had, what, seventy-eight articles on Saw 3 in a 5 day period? Surely there's another shout-out to the possible Tron sequel out there.

if you gotta say something rocks something else and not just that it rocks why not say it "rocks the house" or "the motherfucking house" if you must be off color? "(x) has been rocking balls" or "this rocks balls!" is not something anybody says. but it does contain a reference to male anatomy!!!!!!! so i guess it is right at home on this island of lost adolescent boys

....and I actually like him too, but the office is just a rip off of a british series called People Like Us and Extras is an incredibly lame attempt at a Larry Sanders type show where the subtlety is jettisoned in favour of disabled, sometimes racist jokes, with celebrities turing into cartoonish gargoyle versions of themselves. It was good, but it wasn't larry sanders good. (But then what is??) You should watch Ricky Gervais Meets Garry Shandling ojn youtube by the way. Especially if you hated the backslapping hell that was ...meets Larry David. Seriously, Gervais has created 2 shows and to date has only done 2 stand up tours yet he thinks he's an established comedic genius. Lets just say the great Mr Shandling takes Ricky to task on more than one occassion for using overtly anti semetic and disaabled jokes just to get cheap laughs. priceless, and a sobering experience for anyone who thinks Gervais invented 'awkward' comedy.

I for one and glad that there are comedians like Larry David and Ricky Gervais out there doing their thing. It means we get less of the crappy campy shit! You guys should check out that interview between Gervais and David. They have awesome chemistry it would be great to see them both on screen. I actually really like Ricky Gervais (well, maybe not the 11 O'Clock show stuff so much.) The two seasons and specials of The Office never let up in quality, and Extras series 1 was a fantastic follow up. But I felt that the quality drop-off in series 2 of Extras was immense. It was ironic that it tried to be a satire on low-brow, 'catchphrase' humour, and yet all the jokes were much broader and more obvious than in season one (or in the Office). It had potential and the rare good scene, but it felt like a first draft that had been rushed out to catch the popularity wave rather than really being polished and considered.

I wouldn't say he's a one trick pony, that's a bit like saying Woody Allen is or chaplin or Jesus. If you don't like him fair enough, tough shite! 'I do think he's funny' I thought For Your concideration was just shit with or without him and didn't bother with Night at the Museum because I don't find Ben Stiller very funny but I can listen to Gervais chat about hamster dildos and chinese whispers and it makes me laugh. Don't know about ripping People like us but I'd say the moc-doc Spinal Tap was a big influence on the Office and his cringe inducing style of humour and there's nowt wrong with that in my book.

Go and be funnier than Gervais and I'll pay to see you, Moany Twats!

Stephen merchant wrote the Office with gervais but was not in the cast. Why?! He is Funny as hell. As for Gervais, he is God. A funny God. Actually he might be an aithist so um hes just..well..funny. He always did say that Spinal tap was his greatest influence on his type of comedy and it shows.

...in the last year. Now I'll freely admit that I'm not at all tired of Gervais's act/persona, and I'm equally not convinced that he can't do anything else - he just hasn't been asked to yet - but all the same, this one really grabbed me.

The way this is written...it'll be more of the same Gervais from THE OFFICE and EXTRAS, but with a milder character more like that on the former. The concept might seem a little gimmicky, but the way it plays out is not only extremely funny but, surprisingly, produces a bunch of really heartfelt moments.

I hope to God this gets picked up somewhere. It won't be for everyone (some won't be able to get past the first scene, which requires a good bit of suspension of disbelief), but I think a good many will hail it as genius.

I have a series of yes-no questions, accumulated over the years, which I find function astonishingly well when it comes to judging people. One of those things is "Do you like BBC's The Office?" If the answer is no, then that person is someone I simply don't have any desire to get to know. Answering "no" to that is like saying "I'm a tasteless replitard with no soul or sense of humor".

But it was just for one episode. Gervais makes a remark about his buggy eyes and makes him cry. Pretty funny. On a sidenote would people shut up about "subtle" humor. Come on, that's pretentious bullshit and you all know it. For the most part laughter is reflexive and almost immediate. Funny is funny simple as that. That's not to say I excuse broad comedy, I don't. I just don't like lazy comedy, like Ben Stiller being hit in the balls for the umpteenth time. So quit telling me that Extras season 2 is inferior to season 1 because it might actually be more broad. If you did you might end up discounting the fact that it does what most shows don't, it revamps it's theme going from a man trying to achieve his dream to a man selling out his dream and watching it wither and die. So finally just stop this pseudo-intellectual bullshit already. Why don't you just ask me if I'm a Marx brothers fan or a Stooges fan. Can't I like both?

you can say Extras doesn't need a Season 3, but why does it NEED a special? There isn't an obvious dangling storyline like the Office. I just dont' see it needing a proper end. I'll be glad if it is funny, but I don't have an emotional connection to any of the characters.

He's havin' a laugh! Season 2 of Extras was hilarious! The David Bowie "sad fat clown" song, Daniel Radcliffe as a sex-crazed virgin, the gay play episode when he stuck the bottle in his mouth... c'mon, what are you people dead inside? I agree, the special is probably unnecessary, but wil probably be quite nice, likely revolving around Andy and Maggie's unrequieted relationship, and whether it's even worth it for Andy to stay in the game or not. Extras, a great show all around.

Actually my thoeries aren't stupid. look at the facts. people like us was done almost a decade before the office and was a mockumentary about a different office each week, complete with talking head interviews and awkward silences. The Larry Sanders show was a satirical comedy where the celebrities are as fucked up, unhappy and insecure as anyone else. both done way before the office and extras. Gervais himself has said , and i quote...'No Larry Sanders, no Office, simple as that'. Not what i'd call the same genre at all, i'd call it ripping it off. (the premise, not the material...douche) Now if you'd read my post you'd have seen that I actually LIKE Gervais, I think he's funny as a bucket of dead babies... i just don't get this whole 'genius' bullshit. There are funnier and more subversive comedians and writers out there that have been doing it for longer and better than Gervais. Doug Stanhope for example. But yes, I stand by what I said, Gervais is a one trick pony. That trick? Ripping his heroes off. But thats cool, I can dig it.

It's an act! He's acting, writing and starring and showing off and probably irritating you because you believe it when he says nasty things and goes on and on about his awards and shit!

I think he's and naturally funny, to look at even and deserves all the success and acclaim he's had coz he had the nuts and talent obviously alongside his co-writers and stars to slowly bring back some decent fucking Brittish comedy and along with Father Ted and PeepShow has given me stuff to actually look forward to watching on a TV riddled with way too many channels, filled with shit that I still have to pay for by law!?!

He doesn't really hate dwarves or ill people or torture office workers or pose any threat to anyone with his wit unless you can't work out what he's saying is said in jest, you know, to make us laugh!

You obviously are getting all angry and shit so why not find him in real life, tell him he's 'write good writer but not funny'

I think he'd find your writing hilarious and probably throw money at you.

...and has found a most clever way of hiding it by pretending to play a funny character who tries to show that he is not prejudice and fails miserably. Or maybe not - maybe h is the most prejudice bloke in the world. Personally, I think he's neither of the extremes and is just like every one of us. And that is what he is trying to show. That we are all prejudice in some ways including Gervais. but its how we all deal with our prejudices (or just awkwardness of someone else's abnormal feature) is what makes attractive material for him. Sometimes we face people who perhaps we dont like or has an obvious disability but we try to treat them normal but at the back of our mind we would be thinking about their disability or race. Gervais brings what is at the back of our minds to the fore with hilarious results.

It's not that I get offended by what he says I just don't think what he says is funny. I'll laugh at jokes about ill people and midgets all day long. Take one of Gervais heroes, Sanders(larry not the colonel) Curb is genius, but some times Larry is pretty horrible I still find it hilarious. I'm not angry about what he says I'm angry because he's not that could if Stephen Merchant is writting with him. If you want to know the secret behind his success, get your self a talented co writer. Gervais is just a failed pop star who got lucky with the friends he made.

Not everyone sees the same people or situations funny. For example a significant section of British humour is based on irony something which some (many) other cultures just don't get. In my opinion Ricky Gervais is funny because quite simply he makes me laugh, something that many comedians don't. Other people find Chris Rock funny, I however don't as I have no real appreciation of his type of humour. I don't really feel strongly enough about him to suggest he "sucks balls" though or whatever nonsense tumbles out of some people's mouths. I tend to just avoid the humour I don't appreciate. Hey if we were all the same...
