In Warhawk. I love my PS3, but I'm not gonna even go close to the "Turn on motion sense" option. Ever. Rock band looks awesome. If the price is decent, count me in.

No mention of the new Japanese book: How the PS3 Failed

Seriously, the book was just published and is climbing its way up the bestseller list. Can't wait for the translation. I bet it uses the word "hubris" at least once.
You COULD shoot the dog in the arccade.

Nintendo dumbed it down as usual for the home release. In the arcade, you'd shoot the dog and he'd pop up all blackened and frazzled and grumble at you.

No I'm not eager for Halo 3. In fact, I sold my 360 last week to get a new iMac (on which I'm playing games via Bootcamp). Who cares about yet another FPS based on "Aliens"? I don't get the appeal of Halo.

Nintendo can shove the Wii up their ass. I still can't find them in stores, and that- to me- says that Nintendo is purposely shorting supplies to make it seem "in demand." Well, fuck them and their false hype. I was interested in a Wii one year ago, and now that I've had to wait so long, I'm no longer interested.

Consoles have all fucked up this time around. 360 isn't cranking out enough variety. PS3 is too costly and has barely any decent games. Wii is impossible to find and technologically retarded, relying on a gimmick to stay relevant. I wish Sega would come back and show them how it's done.

I liked my 360, but the issues with software were not pleasing me. I want variety, and I want to pay the same for a game on the 360 as I do on the PC. There's no reason why a new game should be $40 on Windows, and $60 on the XBox 360. Why would I pay an extra $10-$20 for the same experience?

Oh, yeah, and the whole Japan fad (manga and anime style) have killed console gaming. I'm sick of that whole thing. I hated it to begin with, and now that it's trendy as fuck, everybody wants their RPGs, FPSs, and everything else to be Japanese-style. Fuck that. I want western games. I'm having a lot more fun with NWN2 than Blue Dragon would ever have been to me. Oblivion? It's $30 for Windows, and I'll pick it up again later- As a bonus I'll get mods, patches, and better visual effects than I did on 360.

I thought PC gaming was dead, but the consoles aren't doing anything to keep my attention. The push-back of GTA IV to make room for Halo 3 was the last straw for me (and don't tell me it wasn't because of that. It was. Nobody will admit it, but it's pretty fucking obvious.)

comes out this week. can't wait! ninja gaiden weapons master mode add on.. woo hoooo now on psn! hooray for me. this "japan fad" that has ruined games comment. how can something 20 some odd years into popularity be a fad? how has it ruined games? good games remain good, be it eastern or western. bad games will be bad.... no need for xenophobia, buddy. like when i used to work retail and hearing a customer tell me "i really want a ps2, but i'm getting an xbox, instead, to buy AMERICAN." then i proceeded to inform him of the japanese components in the dvd drives microsoft utilized. he didn't know what to say.
It's not japanophobia...

I'm not xenophobic. I live in one of the most culturally diverse places in my state, and my last girlfriend was a black japanophile. I'm not opposed to things that "ain't American."

My problem is that the manga/anime aesthetic has taken over console games. They're either like some bad anime, or they're like a Tom Clancy novel. There's no in-between.

And your customer was half-right. The ultimate profiter in the purchase of an XBox would be a company in America (Microsoft), while we all know Sony is ultimately loyal to Japanese commerce. Yes, there are foreign components in an XBox, but there are also American and Canadian parts in half of what Sony makes, so the guts really don't matter. The bottom line is that Sony isn't an American-founded corporation, and your xenophobic customer wasn't keen to support a company from a foreign country. He had it right, basically speaking.

My issue isn't the origin. My issue is the lack of imagination when designers turn to manga or anime for inspiration. There has never been a more homogeneous art form on the face of the earth. Hell, even Jackson Pollock could inspire a more unique game than anything Masamune Shirow could.

I sell manga and anime as part of my career, and I fucking hate the stuff. It's my prerogative... Especially after seeing most of the retards who buy stacks of it. I've read some, watched some, and ultimately abandoned it because I like my art to have touches of the artist in it. Japanese art is all about doing exactly what the last twenty guys did, almost exactly the same style, with the same meaning, influences, and sense of homogeneous Japanese culture. Screw that. Games should be unique and try to expand on their style and gameplay, not formulaic and stagnant like anime and manga have become.

but you fuckin hate the stuff. "games should be unique and try to expand on their style and gameplay" yet the most game innovation comes from where? "japanese art is about doing exactly what the last twenty guys did" maybe the japanese art you sell at hot topic is, but i think a culture older than ours has LOTS more to offer ARTWISE than OUR last 20 guys did, at least. and the customer wasn't even "HALF" right. the point was not about whether or not he was "right." your argument is based on crass generalizations, and the lack of imagination is actually on YOUR part, buddy. although a pollock game would be great on the wii.

Seriously, Monki is the Jackie Harvey of video games. If this column is to be worth our time, the following things need to be addressed: 1- Posting press releases. What's the point? Press releases are commercials that you read. If you're doing your job, you're taking out the 2-3 interesting bits in a press release and giving them to us off the bat so that we don't have to read them. 2- Enough with the ill-informed, childish rants. 3- This thing needs focus. It can't be a random assortment of video game-related things that Monki found interesting, posted online in no order. Stuff like the 6 Most Important Stories of the Week is the right idea. It might actually help if those *were* 6 important stories, though (WoW South Park wins and Emmy? iPhone/iPod news?! - who cares?). Additionally, the little "teases" to get us to click over to those 6 stories are confusing and less than enticing. 4- The games we should own this week must actually be: a) good (really, Ultimate Duck Hunting?), b) out this week (9/25 is in *two* weeks, silly) and c) stuff you have actually played so you have a reason to recommend them. 5) Posting Youtube clips nobody cares about. Why? There's no secret this column sucks. Week in, week out it gets posted to the same old complaints followed by the same suggestions on how to improve it. I sorta enjoy it for its train wreck appeal, but is there some reason why not even one complaint/suggestion has been addressed? Beyond the traditional AICN talkback bitching, I think a lot of it is pretty valid.

I also find it hard to believe that almost a year after the release of the Wii, Nintendo still can't produce enough to keep in stores. I personally don't know one person that owns a Wii (and I have several hardcore gaming friends in their 30's). It must be a deliberate shortage. On the other hand, the PS3 is in stock EVERYWHERE. Even at 499 they just sit there collecting dust. The 360 seems to come and go in stores. I can actually see stores run out and then restock them a couple weeks later. I truly believe that the 360 is going to come out a winner with these three consoles. Especially with the price drop and the Gears Of War & Halo 3 type exclusives.

Does sound like fun. Fear Factor: Michael J. Fox edition. Another challenge would be a Republican Filibuster. Along with -- ah screw it -- like I can actually remember the plot of the Frightners to make a reference. I just remember a nerdy ghost and a fat black guy ghost -- or was that Robert Downey Jr.'s Mind and Souls or Body and Souls?

Wow, this reply went to hell pretty quick.

I own a both games and keyboardmania. Yeah they were cool for there time but dont hold a candle to GH or Rockband. Crap J-pop songs or covers of crap J-pop songs and mostly original crap house band music, not to mention only a three button guitar and the note structure having little to do with the song actually being played. Comparing Rockband and Guitar Hero to those games is like comparing Rad Racer or Outrun to Gran Turismo or Forza. Forget that old crap and buy the real deal.
Hey Quake II: Deliberate Shortage for Wii? HA HA HA

Explain to me how Nintendo could orchestrate a shortage and still have the fastest selling console of all time. Remember, Wii beat X360 to 10 million units sold worldwide, even though Microsoft had a year head start. That must be some trick. But if you want to play the anecdotal evidence card... I know dozens of "hardcore" (ugh) and casual gamers ranging in ages from teens to 30s. None of them have PS3s, a couple have X360s and several of them have Wiis. Many more of them now want Wiis after having played them. There is no artificial shortage.
