Seems like a renter. But I really really want to support Nicky Katt because he's just a badass. Whether it's cool Sin City/GrindHouse cameos, or Boston Public, it's all about the Katt.

Thanks for ruining the whole monkey angle for me. I only go to see films with monkeys in them! I love Argento though. Glad he might have pulled it off with this one and about time too.

I'm really eager to see something fantastic come from Dario Argento again, and I'm glad MoT is getting such good word of mouth. But, dammit, I have SUCH a hard time with movies in which infants and children are killed. I mean, it has to be really, really key to the plot, theme, or character elements for me to accept it. Sure, a number of my favorite movies do involve dead kids (For a Few Dollars More, Once Upon a Time in the West, Night of the Living Dead, Jaws, The Untold Story), but when it doesn't feel totally emotionally justified to me, it turns me off completely, and can make it impossible for me to re-watch the movie. I will see MoT, and I'm sure I'll appreciate it, but I hope I don't find myself unable to give it repeat viewings because of my squeamishness.

That sounds exactly to be the problem with The Brave One. It sounds well intentioned, trying to be an "Important" film about the nature of violence..blah blah blah..when its really is a female Death Wish with better acting.

SUSPIRIA worst movie EVER

To quote the comic book guy. Seriously, caught this over the sumer at Cinespia and I don't think there was one dry eye from all the derisive laughter aimed at this garabage. Truely one of the worst movies I have seen. I was all for it for camp value, but come on I didn't know there were those out there who actualy took this flick seriously.
Responding to Argento movies
by KanekoFan

It took me three viewings over a period of six years to finally decide that I liked Suspiria. Argento, in general, isn't for everybody, and Suspiria and Inferno in particular were crafted in such esoteric terms, exploring such a narrow avenue of the genre, that most people will never, ever like them. But I've certainly never heard anybody laugh derisively at Suspiria. The visual style and sound design alone are so stunning that I find it hard to believe that even someone who hated the movie couldn't at least admire the technical bravado of it.
REsponding to responding

Ok- I Get it- "You just don't get it" which is the response I was expecting. But I assure you the entire crowd was roaring with laughs. The sound design was awful BTW- audio was re-recorded after the shoot which is why all the voices seem just a little "off" which make it all the more hilarious to watch. As for other technical aspects, stabbing a piece of bloody steak (opening murder sequence) and expecting your audience to belive it's a young girl's chest, abdomen, whatever, isn't exactly high tech. What sort of skin disease did she have that make her look like raw meat? Wretched to no plotting or any attempt at logical sequence of events. It did get the laughs though I'll give it that. And the school marm's ability to keep her dentures in while delivering her joker grin dialog was stunning. Simply stunning. A masterpiece for the ages!
I didn't say "you just don't get it"

I'm not nearly that much of a pretentious ass. I don't really think there's that much to "get" in Suspiria. It's an incredibly simplistic movie. It just has a tone and style that are naturally pleasing to some people. And when I speak of its technical aspects, I'm not talking about special effects. I don't usually give a piss one way or the other about technical aspects of special effects. I was talking about lighting, composition, production design, scoring, and sound design. And, for the record, there is a logical sequence of events, it's just delivered sooooo elliptically that the logic is almost undetectable. Like I said, it took me three viewings over six years to decide that I liked that movie, and one of the reasons for that was the frustrating narrative structure. I'm not calling it a perfect movie by any means, I'm just saying that there are aspects of it that will very much appeal to a small segment of the audience.
I'm always curious...

daveinLA- since Suspiria is such a shitty (horror) movie, what would qualify as a good one? Hostel? Saw? Riding the Bus With My Sister? (well, okay... that one IS horrifying)

...and for no reason whatsoever tosses him....Andy Warhol's 'Bad', directed by Jed Johnson, starring Perry King, Susan Tyrrell and Carol Baker. And I bet it's not as hysterically funny as it was in Bad when the baby splatters on the sidewalk and sprays all over pedestrians, and then a mother standing nearby grabs her son by the arm and screams "That's what I'm going to do to you if you don't behave!"

MoT is worth seeing, but I don't think I'll ever need to watch it again. Asia's bad acting made what could have been a fun movie pretty much unwatchable for me. In fairness, the "few bad apples" Magoo mentioned seemed like the majority of the audience - her performance was just so bad it was funny at inappropriate times.

TRAUMA,THE CARD PLAYER,THE BLACK CAT,PELTS (tv) are good. THE STENDHAL SYNDROME and JENIFER (tv) are great. Well,THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and SLEEPLESS aren't very good but most of Dario's flicks since OPERA are very watchable.
