Because of this ridiculous pricing, even in the VHS days, I just download the fansubs (which the dedicated ones do a way better job of subbing sometimes)and get everything when it actually airs, not when some rip off company decideds to release it and rip people off with shit like a 25 minute ep for $40.

I don't really understand what you mean by saying, Shirow can sort of be considered the creator of Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed. There is no sort of about it, he is the creator. Just because you are only used to the new version of GITS doesn't mean his is inferior. All versions of GITS are awesome and all are completely different, but it doesn't mean he isn't the creator just because you personally are not familiar with his work. Shirow is one of the most brilliant minds in Japan and is easily on the same level or near Go Nagai. Also further proof the author of this article has never really read the original Manga is that Togusa is a full cyborg in the manga. His isolation comes from not being military like the others and being a cop. Of course you can't be expected to know everything about everything you review, but it's your pompous attitude and smart ass comments that make the article annoying.

39.99 for a SINGLE EPISODE!? Jesus jumpin' jiminey fucking crickets, man! I saw the first episode like a year ago @_@ why would I pay that ridiculous price? I mean, first of all the damn thing isn't even finished in its country of origin, so how long will it take for the US to get the rest of it? Another year? Two years? Yea, I'm gonna buy Freedom on DVD... when it's out in a complete set for 49.99 on a single disc. DURRRRRR Oh, and harosa's right: people who CARE about the show they're subtitling will do it better than any studio has EVER done. If only they would take a clue from the fansubbers and use some unique fonts, add some emphasis, include the original japanese terms for proper nouns and EXPLAIN THEM, TOOOOOO, jackasses!! AND DO THE GOOD GOD DAMN KARAOKE FOR THE OP AND ED!! Criminey!!!

You can check out 'Steamboy' then. Also there's 'Memories' and you can probably find a download of the old 'Robot Carnival.' The latter two are short film compilations. Otomo wrote all the stories for Memories and directed the last one. In Robot Carnival he was only involved with the opening and closing titles I tihnk, but anyway it's retro fun if you're into it! Anyway, should I pick up GIT 1.5? Or should I wait for the full digitally coloured version? Or is it already coloured? I loved the original GITS manga... but man-machine interface had too much jargon for me to even understand what the heck is going on... but the artwork is mesmerizing! Though for a manga that develops and fully utilizes its concepts without side notes and explanations and draws out well choreographed action, that honor goes to Battle Angel Alita!
