The Usual Suspects.... This will probably be a beautiful film but will be lacking in emotional content and drag. That's Singer's MO anymore. O- and please don't let Ottman Cut this, he hacked up the non-action parts of Superman Returns.

I see him going mano-a-mano with Brandon Routh over the skies of Metropolis. Cruise can do good villains. He was great as Lestat, his best performance ever. Kneel before Cruise. Or how about as a younger Jor-el in the flashback sequence?

Sep 5th, 2007

I feel bad for every actor in a Terrence Stamp film because he acts them into dust and smashes their dust into the concrete. I think my wife and I showed The Limey to so many friends we had to make new friends so we could show it somre more (and Nicky Katt is pretty damn good in it too.) The lesson to this post is that Bryan Singer is overrated, Tom Cruise is a closeted homosexual, scientologist looking to take over the world, and Branagh is like Pepsi (watered down coke). I will see this movie if they can make Tom Cruise's eye patch cover his head!

by finky089
Sep 5th, 2007
09:33:31 AM
Even with Cruise, the cast sound great, but I have to wonder whether the execution (pun intended?) will be as good as the casting. I, too, would like to see tom's eyepatch cover his whole face. Or better, why not given him TWO eyepatches! No, that would be as absurd as having the shortest guy in Hollywood (this side of Vern Troyer) be the tallest one in the photo).

by the way, all that talk about Cruise as Jor-el SURELY must be a joke, right? I'm already disinclined to see the supposed sequel, but put Cruise in that role and I won't even rent it.

Hitler's assassination attempt mentioned in _Patton_
by William Munny
Sep 5th, 2007
09:43:52 AM
Apparantly Patton was worried that Hitler wouldn't be around much longer - and he would miss his opportunity to "personally shoot that paper-hanging son-of-a-bitch." From the movie: "For God's sake, get me in this fight. The only way out of the doghouse is to do something great. I gotta get back in the war! Hitler's own people tried to kill him a few days ago. First thing you know, it'll be over and. . . . I'll. . . . . .keep my mouth shut. I'll behave myself. I give you my word."

in Conspiracy, as Reinhard Heidrich. He was great. Kevin McNally (the ARR first mate of POTC) standing left, was also in that film, as Under-secretary Martin Luther. Mr 6 was also in POTC with Bill Nighy and McNally, as Lord Cutler's kidnapper/ assassin, and wasn't that guy on the left, seated, the 'good' Nazi doctor in Unterfall?
Also must point out another piece of great mini-casting

In Harry Potter 6, Bill Nighy is playing tough and leonine new Minister for Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour. Love Bill Nighy (he was the first, best Sam Gamgee in LOTR, you know) and watch his cameo in Hot Fuzz, when he says the line "Uh, yes I can, I'm the Chief Inspector." He does this tiny, amazingly threatening thing with the skin between his eyebrows. Exquisite.

I thought Singer was slated to re-make Freejack after SR? Oh well. If Gary Busey were in T. Stamp's shoes, then they'd have my $8. As it stands, on opening night you'll probably find me sipping Tussin over my dog-eared laser disc of "Never Too Young to Die".
So, Tom Wilkinson is Hitler?
by Klaus Herzog
Sep 5th, 2007
11:18:07 AM
He also has a part in the movie, doesn't he? He sure would do a good job, though no one will be able to rival Bruno Ganz as Ol'Adolf in DOWNFALL. But really, that is one impressive cast and I gotta say, this is one of my most anticipated movies next year. This has the potential to be one hell of a tense film and with this story in particular, you really gotta try your best to fuck it up. I have faith in Singer and yeah, I have faith in Tom Cruise too, take that bitches. I'm guessing this will be good. Nice to see Christian Berkel as well, at least some Germans are in this flick.

Accents
by Mattyboy122
Sep 5th, 2007
11:56:25 AM
This flick looks like it could be good, but I'm curious as to what route they'll go with the accents. Cruise is obviously American, whereas the other actors are from the UK. Will they all try German accents? Will Cruise try an English accent to fit in with the rest of the cast? Will the others try an American accent to match Cruise?

kidding aside this looks like a potentially cool movie, excellent cast, Singers a Mensch, and McQuarrie's scripting is a bonus. Shame about the Ottman score being bumped in favour of Badelt (one out of two aint bad) but then again a German 'romantic' sensibility might add something to the film (Badelt and Zimmer turned a great pastiche of Mahler, Wagner and Beethoven with Invincible). I doubt he'll be dialling in a by the numbers 'Media Ventures' score like Transformers fro this, much more engaging subject matter for a composer to get there teeth into.

X2 is proof of Singer's ability? X2 is barely a film. Paper-thin plot. No characterization other than Wolverine. Hardly any action. Ridiculous plot holes. Why it gets so much geek love is beyond me. Usual Suspects was great the first time around. Apt Pupil is damn near impossible to watch. The X-Men films are boring with no character development and serious fear of action. Superman Returns...well, I can't think of one aspect of the movie that works...not one. Not to mention that his movies always look like stage productions. As for Cruise, he does look like he's playing dress-up. Will he even attempt to try an accent? Or does he at least realize he's not capable of pulling one off? Not interested in this one bit despite the rest of the cast.

When he was fired from paramount. he effectively ended his action career. He has three movies in production at the moment, Lion for Lambs, Valkerie and a possible Judd apatow comedy. and he had dinner with spike Lee. He has been an actor for thirty years and he has worked with some of the greatest directors of the latter half od the 20th Century. His final decade, which is this one will be his most intresting. I saw show on living and the apt comment was that he needs to stop being the crazy tom cruise cult nut job and start being Tom the actor again. Which is what he is good at and that is his job.

Looks like it's a little too Hollywood. The facial hair and styling is all wrong for at least half the cast in that photo. Furthermore, I don't know if I could watch a movie like this in english. It really would be much better in the original language(s). Damn shame Americans are spoiled rotten babies when it comes to "foreign language" films. Donitz was NOT a good negatiator (we didnt need a negotiator as we were winning then)

Ken was with Helena Bonham Carter not Emma Thompson

Tom is not a Hack (Hello, Magnolia, 4th of July)

Singer is not a hack (Suspects, Apt Pupil, X-Men)

Branaghs Hamlet is possiblyl the best Shakespeak committed to film!

I that covers it all :)

I love Carice van Houten. She was able to play smart, busty, blonde, and crazy sexy while also making you care deeply about her character's plight in "Black Book." Can't wait to see her in "Valkyrie".

Also, does anyone else think Cruise is a dead ringer for Stauffenberg? The photo in that Daily Mail article looks astonishingly like Tom. Whoa... I really hope Cruise gives the performance of a lifetime, German accent and all.
