When will there be a next-gen Parasite Eve? That game was great even for a PS1 title..As for the console wars, after years of dedication to Sony (PS, PS2), and hard nosed opposition to all things Microsoft, I relented and traded my aging PS2 and an Xbox ( I won in a radio contest), for a base 360 because of the lower price, and the fact that most games will be ported for both systems anyway. Sure, I'll miss a next gen Ratchet & Clank and Snake, but a couple hundred bucks is a couple hundred bucks. And Abin is right, Bioshock will suck hours out of your life..in a good way.

Go to Gamespot.com and read their review. They changed the swing mechanic and it doesn't respond as well as the older versions. And, I seem to remember the swing being on the right thumb stick, which is now on the left. For me, that's awkward. Gamernet, or whatever it's called, apparently doesn't work at all most of the time. Maybe 75% of the time every time...anyway... I wouldn't pick that up. I was going to until I read those reviews.

And yes, I was frustrated with the bugs over release weekend with gamernet and the gamerface picture uploader. EA was overwhelmed with people doing the gamerface pic and got too much traffic on gamernet, so that's why it was buggy. But they've seemed to have ironed most of the kinks out now. I've never played any of the previous TW games, so I can't attest to the swing being on the left stick now. I do know that there is now two options on how you want to swing. A simple back and forward on the thumbstick, or a more controlled "3-Click" system that you can play with where there is a power bar and then an accuracy meter hold (kind of like kicking in Madden games). The game does look beautiful in HD, but I have a feeling I'm loving it so much because I've never played the previous versions. The last time I played a Golf video game was on my PC back in 1998.

personally, i think some of it is good natured ribbing, BUT, yes, i do agree that most of the time it ends up becoming childish mud slinging.

again, i just want to retouch the point i was making last week. some of us resent having the "nex gen" thrust upon us. it's a question of innovation being left behind in favor of a bigger polygon count, and thats what is lame about the "next-gen" rush. thats why i'm happy with my Wii, and not about to get into the "next gen" wars until the "next" next gen happens.....which should be in about a year or so with the rate sony and microsoft are going. i think a big reason the "next gen" hold zero appeal to me is because i'm not a big "first person shooter" guy. FPS do nothing for me and considering that ANY game actually worth playing on the PS3 or 360 are FPS.....well, there you have it. imo the best game i've played this year was god of war 2, and yes i know that isn't saying much considering i haven't taken the "next gen" leap, but still i think it speaks volumes that the last generation should be far from considered dead when the most fun i've had in the last year was playing a game on the ps2.

that dosen't mean to say i won't be excited to play heavenly sword on a ps3, but again that probally won't happen for another year or 2 from now when the ps3 is actually selling for a affordable price and HS is a "greatest hits" title selling for 30 bucks or so.

i like the speech for unity at the end. it's true, it is soooo good to have more than one gaming system, nowadays. last generation was great, playing metal gear on two consoles, playing eternal darkness, playing knights of the old republic, okami, shadow of the collossus burnout revenge with my own soundtrack, psychonauts, god of war 1 and 2, and GUITAR HERO 1, 2 and 80's.... all of these games were the genius of each system out, and i got to experience them, without any hate. it's harder this time around, because money doesn't grow on trees.... and i think that's where a lot of this hostility lies. okay. we're grown ups. we can't always afford everything. no reason to go to the default primal instinct and shit on someone else's gold to make yours look shinier. what? but seriously, one upmanship is cool, but straight up hate is just plain juvenile. if we want the technology to progress, if we want to have experiences unparallelled, then we need to promote the good things about all of these systems, as opposed to the "so-called" bad things. hoo ray for the future.

One of the best moments in gaming in recent times is when you're in the middle of the theatre and Slicers come at you from all angles to the strains of the Nutcracker Suite. Just whip out the chemical sprayer thing, pirouette and it's fucking amazing. The "Oh Danny Boy" section was also brilliant. Seriously, eleven out of ten for sound alone in this game.

Playing Tiger Woods 2004 for the xbox still, nigh on perfect. It's better than the later Wii version for the simple reason of the thumbstick swing. It was left stick AND right stick control back then. Don't get me wrong, I love the Wii-mote's "realistic" golf swing, it's fun, playing against your friends is a riot, but you can't play it seriously until you've got the accuracry a pad gives you. I'll be checking out 2008 for sure, EA are on fine form with this series.

and I'm on my third X360, too! I'm playing Elder Scrolls IV right now. One reason to get the X360: exclusive content for GTA IV! (whenever it come out, that is!) I might get a PS3 when the HD format wars are decided and blu-ray wins. (if it does win) Or they make an exclusive game that's a must own. But for now, I'll stick with the X360, which is working perfectly, for now at least...(fingers crossed!)
What about Lair?
by oceanic86

04:21:38 PM
Forget about Lair? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't every PS3-owner touting it as a killer-app? I even remember Monki himself hyping the thing up. Which I guess is why there's no mention of how hard the game crashed and burned. Gamespot 4.5'd it, and IGN 4.9'd it. Shouldn't the fact that such a hyped-up, heavily-promoted game crashing and burning like this be newsworthy?

They've done it with every game that has failed to sell systems so far, why should they stop doing it now? It is kind of the opposite of those clowns who proclaimed Wii's early success as a "fad." How long must something dominate the competition before it is no longer a fad?
XBOX 360 TIP - Don't use a powerstrip or surge protecto
by Kraken
Sep 4th, 2007
04:33:28 PM
Don't plug your 360 into a power strip or surge protector. Plug it directly into the wall power socket. The power brick has it's own surge regulator and plugging it into a surge protector can actually damage your 360. Also, make sure not to put your 360 in a cabnit with a bunch of other heat generating components (receiver, cable box, etc). I've had my 360 for over a year and a half now with no issues following those tips. Oh, and of course don't ever put it on the floor on carpet.
I agree that LOTRO is better than Warcraft
by performingmonkey

05:31:01 PM
I played LOTRO for 3 months straight, and only don't now because...well...it tends to consume your life! It's much better than Warcraft. Feels more rewarding, and I love the fact that it's set in Middle-earth, even though much of it isn't even available to explore yet. I know I'll go back to it eventually, but I know that I'll be pissed off that my character is so low compared with others. It strangely mirrors real life in that way...you feel pissed off at people with higher-levelled characters just like in life you feel pissed off at people higher up than you, the fucking bastards! I recommend everyone watch that Warcraft episode of South Park if you haven't already. Classic. Now fuck off, all of you nasty negative TBers who think they should be paid for posting nasty TB comments about fucking BOOK COOKING MUTHA FUCKS at AICN. Savvy?? That's what we need - a Pirates of the Caribbean MMORPG, you captain your own ship or join a crew of another, search for treasure and attack other ships and sea creatures. Utter coolness. Yes. Fuck.

I mean seriously. I think you'd have to be on coke, or heroin, or speed, or some outrageous combination of all, downed with a bottle of Vault and Red Bull and Monster Energy drink to pull that off.

I was really looking forward to finally owning a Guitar Hero game for my Wii, but good God, I think that video just scared the shite outta me.

Rocking song, though.

I've only had my 360 for a few months and every few days a disc read error would occur (not the red lights though). This would usually happen during Oblivion or Gears. I haven't had an error for a long time though and the only thing I've consciously done is open the system tray before I play any games (I usually have to open it to change from the last game that was in there anyway). It may sound stupid, but if you keep getting disc read errors, then open the system tray before playing a game. Either that or send it away. It's not fair that gamers should have to compromise with unreliable hardware, but if that's all I have to do, then I'd rather hang onto it cos I'm loving the system so far.

The 360 might be the SNES of its generation, for me at least. I hope the other two systems really are just having the traditional teething problems (the 360 certainly didn't have this kind of appeal a year ago), but I'm trusting my intuition and saying that, from a critical standpoint (at least in terms of the balance between quality and quantity), the 360 will come out best. I really hope it last longer then the original xbox anyway.

just because a few websites give a game low scores doesn't mean a game sucks, reviews are INCREDIBLY subjective. i mean, i actually HAVE lair, and i love it. the graphics are SICK, and the controls, while there may be a HUGE learning curve... once you get the hang of how it works, it kicks ass. i don't really listen to websites for reviews, anyway. lots of great games have been missed out by many thanks to shitty reviews by the so-called journalists that get to play EVERY game ever made. they don't actually review them, they run a laundry list of comparisons to other games they've played. that's not a review. it's bragging. it's a pissing contest. and it sucks. especially with something like lair, that tries something different, and looks friggin spectacular. heavenly sword got some average reviews (although play magazine gave it a 10!)... and that won't stop me from getting it. and EVERY system has games that journalists and fanboys alike are touting as the next big thing... only to be shat upon when they are actually released.... because there's no multiplayer... or no online... or no customizable avatars... or you can't play as snake... or it's too short.. or the graphics aren't all that... or that it's not halo... or it's not mario.. or it's a sonic game... or whatever.... there's always something to complain about.

Metroid Prime is definitely worth playing. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes was fun but I think overall harder than the first. I can't wait to try Corruption. On a side note, Bioshock is also available for the PC if you have a good system... I tried the demo today, very cool.

The Wii version of Zelda kept me entertained for a while and I'm sure the game has some replay value after I've not touched it in a while. I think the system may be getting boring for some people because of the lack of games for it so far and the ones that have come out haven't really seemed to push the system to its limits, beyond exploring cool control schemes for the Wii remote. I suspect Metroid and the Mario game coming out will help this, along with Smash Brothers of course.
