It was concieved as a 44 part story and should have stayed that way, by dragging it out into a third season it's gone beyond "suspension of disbelief" to the absurd. Note the new conspiracy and how the old one hasn't been resolved so much as fallen by the wayside.

Collectors Edition Sets.........
by Merlox
Sep 4th, 2007
09:28:11 AM
Hey Herc would it be to much trouble to ask if you could scope out what stores do those ridiculous exclusive sets sometime? I never would have found out about Targets collector's edition of Heroes without the talkback, and I have no clue where to research stuff like that anyhow. I hate having to bounce around store to store to see if there is some sort of deal.....or if it's even worth it. Just a thought.

SHOULD have ended last season...it really should have...but I just can't help really loving this show...and I think it's because I consciously turn my brain off and just have fun with its complete implausibility. I understand though that people are getting frustrated with it but I'm really dying to see where it goes. (I DO however hope that it ends THIS year)
The British Office Sucked

Well, I just don't find Britsh humour/mannerisms that amusing. Even though the first few episodes are alike from both sides of the pond, I find the US version much more enjoyable and funny.

I read that the entire series of MTV's The State is FINALLY supposed to be coming out on DVD on 10/23. Is it not official yet? I'm nervous that it's not actually coming out, since it's taken forever to finally get this awesome show out on DVD.
Ricky Gervais

Sep 4th, 2007
10:54:31 AM
Look, it's becoming obvious Ricky Gervais is a one-trick pony, but oh what a trick it is! Herc, get out there and watch the original Office NOW! Is Dwight funnier than Gareth? He has had about 30 more episodes to develop his character, but I still love Gareth.

And aside from the pilot, Ryang, the US and UK versions have no plots in common.

Office Target Edition.....

for those curious Target has a box of the Office third season with some "nifty" packaging....a shooting script from the season premiere and an extra disc with Q&A from the Paley Festival....much like the Heroes box last week...I snagged it...but I dunno if it was really worth the extra few bucks....but it sure looks cool...

Gareth Keenan Investigates...
by Alonzo Mosely

The American version is a fine sit-com, but the British version, with its 14 episodes and a special, was absolute perfection. It told a specific story and then left the room. 'That' moment in the xmas special, you know what I mean, was more touching and appropriate than just about anything else I ever seen, in comedy or drama, movie or TV. It just shone. Merchant and Gervais got those characters, told their story and then left it behind.

Any American watching is going to miss some of the little things, the same way a Brit watching the US version will miss the little things, and it is the touches that move good to great, so obviously most American will prefer the American and vice-versa. I am British, but have lived in the states for 10 years, so I am able to tune into both as a 'native'. The American version is very, very good, the British version is great...

i mean, Dwight is great, and he's certainly become his own character over the seasons, but you can't beat Garreth, or David Brent for that matter. Never.

I watched the british office over and over again on dvd and thought it was the funniest thing ever. Once I heard an american remake was coming, I got real pissed. I didn't really give it a fair chance. I think the moral to this story is that Fox should bring Arrested Development back for 10 more seasons.

because you haven't seen the Brit "Office". i wouldn't say it's "better", but they do say "fuck" a few times and there's an episode where Tim (the british Jim) gives David (the british Michael) a dildo for his birthday and hilarity ensues as David has to hide the dildo for the rest of the day. the two hour wrap up episode is heart breaking.

The sheer volume of high quality episodes leads me to respect the American version more, especially when you consider how easily it could have been a total disaster, or could have run out of energy. I tend to like Gareth a bit better than Dwight, and the bosses are probably a push, but after that I think I prefer all of the American cast. I don't know that watching the UK version now will do anything more than having you comparing the two, rather than viewing them both seperately. I wasn't super impressed with the 2nd series of the UK office, so I don't agree with people that feel it was complete perfection, but it had a very solid wrap. With most of the major cast getting lots of roles, I doubt the American version will last much longer. I hope they wrap things up as well as the UK version.

were probably the two funniest episodes of TV I saw all last year. I don't buy Gervias as a one trick pony at all. I also enjoy his podcasts, which I don't think are much like his shows.

it didn't have many posts in it. I just started watching and I'm not sure if I'll be caught up by Thursday, but it is the first real TV drama (not counting fantasy stuff like Heroes and Lost) I've been interested in for a long time. By 108 I'll be watching them when they are new.

prefer the american office by a very slim margin. Nothing will ever beat David Brent playing his guitar at the training seminar and that moment another poster wrote of is amazing and gareth is a great character, but dwight blows him out of the water. The humour is quite different. i find the extra episodes in the US case to be more is better. usually yanks keep their shows going way after bedtime. And I'm an aussie so got no allegiances. get take the best from both england and america cause most of our TV shows suck!

I'm with you. It defies expectations how a traditional (dated), schmaltzy sitcom can be so damned funny, especially in a post-Arrested Development world. But it just is. Nothing against THE OFFICE (the clear cut #2) and 30 ROCK (perhaps a little overhyped thanks to inconsistency, but I still bought it yesterday), but HIMYM is the most fun I have in front of a t.v. all week, every week.
