Trying to compare 16th century Spain to modern day America is plain crude. For one Spain didn't have nuclear missiles, carrier battle groups, McDonalds and Paris Hilton. Besides that would make Tudor England the same as Chavez's Venezuala, and the last thing we want is to be put in the same stable as that fat shit.

This movie's going to kick all kinds of serious ass! Hopefully, Blanchett will be redeemed for not winning Best Actress over Gwynnie last time. And it looks like Shakur is back in form after pinning me to my seat and making me scream "uncle!" from boredom as I watched "The Four Feathers". Still, I really think this guy could become one of our major filmmakers.

Does AICN actually break stories anymore? I mean, this will be news to some people, but this trailer has been playing in front of "art house" movies for a month now at least. I can't vouch for the guy who saw this 3 months ago, but even if this trailer was a week old, it's too old to be COOL news, yes? Color me cynical, but you guys have fallen behind the curve in the last few years. Quit flying out to movie sets to get spoon-fed news by studio flacks, and actually start BREAKING news again.

I need to finally getting around to watching the first one.

Cate Blanchett is absolutely awesome, and delivering powerful speeches she sends chills down my spine.

On a related but tangential note, I'll never forgive Peter Jackson for what he had them do to her voice in the LOTR scene where Galadriel reveals her full power when tempted by the Ring. I never really liked the way that scene was handled, but once I'd heard Blanchett's original dialogue from the scene (on one of the DVD extras) before it was processed and fucked around with I couldn't believe how much more powerful, 'beautiful and terrible as the dawn' her natural voice was than the version that was used in the film.

Regarding Samantha Morton - have you checked out her work in IN AMERICA? Or MORVERN CALLAR? Also, in the movie CODE 46 (an interesting film), there is a moment with Samantha (towards the end) that is just about one of the most daring and erotic scenes I've ever seen in a film. She is an incredibly brave actress. One whom I feel is just a step away from finding that one truly great role. I'm definitely looking forward to her portrayal of Ian Curtis's wife in CONTROL.

Cate's fisrt "Elizabeth" movies is one of my favorites, so I'm a little pumped that I have nother chance to see her and Rush playing those character's again. (I LOVED Rush's character in the last one. I like those pull-the-strings types. But not in the Ed Wood way.) I hope this is just as good; the trailer would have me believe it is. Visually, it's fantastic. I too was disappointed by "The Four Feathers" so hopefully the director gets back on his feet for this one and stays there. I'd love to see him do more movies—he's got a great eye.

Hi, I'm Elizabeth I, Queen of England and right now it's the mid-late 16th century. We don't even have so much as an outpost in the New World, but not only do I know about those suckers, I know what the natives call them. I apparently know they're windy, too, cuz I used it in a sentence as a metaphor. Course, I'm just being annoyingly picky. I loved that moment in the trailer until I thought about it. Still gonna see it, it looks awesome. I know I'll wince at that part now, unless the next shot is of the Spanish Ambassador going "What's she talking about? Somebody get me de Gama and de Leon, tell them to bring me one of these hurricane thingies. Sounds like a handy thing to have"

The sequence at the end where the directer intercut Liz's "marriage" ceremony with rounding up and killing her enemies was straight out of the Godfather. Great movie. http://www.takeourword.com/et_ h-j.html#hurrican "Hurricane first entered English around 1555, coming from Arawakan (natives of the West Indies) hurakan via Spanish huracan. The word took several forms in its infancy in English, including furacane, huarachana, and uracan, all of which were alterations of the Spanish and of Portuguese furacao. Hurricane became the accepted form by 1688." The bigger "objection" would be that she doesn't speak in "Elizabethan" English. But allowances must be made so that they don't have to subtitle the damn thing.

And yes, the bigger ojection would be that no one's speaking Elizabethan english. Cryin' out loud, the movie's gonna be wrought with historical inaccuracies anyway, as any good historical drama is, I thought I'd pick on the least controversal. Plus, I was bored.
