I can't understand why they're making one now... DBZ was at its peak seven years ago and the series itself is over ten years old. That being said, I'm sure it will be a triumph of modern cinema. I'll probably see it out of morbid curiosity if nothing else.

As someone who has all of the Dragonball series, original, Z and GT on disc, I just hope they do the fans justice and put the effort in to this incredible Japanese animated series. Some of us have been waiting for a long time to see this. Don't frak it up.

In my mind; there is only 1 way to make a DBZ live film, and it unfortunately involves a trip to the cheese factory. The effects and the storyline are only borderline-acceptable because it was animated. Remember how lame Ryu's Hadoken turned out in that live action street fighter film? I wonder how FOX will choose to ruin yet another childhood memory...

Seriously, when they translated DBZ, they should've combined episodes. There is so much wasted fucking time with grunting, blah blah blah, staring with sweat on the face, more blah blah blah...it's so fucking drawn out that it's practically unwatchable.

Hrm. As cool as it would be to have a 20th CENTURY BOYS anime (I've been reading the manga, really good stuff), turns out that's not in the plans as of yet. The 2008 early release is for the live-action movie, not an anime series. If you click on the link in the article, they make a correction adhering to this.

with Asian actors and a stylish 300-type mix with the feel of films like Hero or Crouching Tiger, maybe Zhang Zimou can direct it he's good. Then again if it's from the U.S. it'll be Tim Story making it a crapfest tragedy.

But Scott's right that it is predictable at times and also kinda force feeds you with all the love and emotion. But it's nicely animated and unusual from typical sci-fi and characters. I too tihnk it would be a good idea to make a nice friendly lush Miyazaki-esque LOTR live action DragonBall film before going into Dragonball Z. I'd jsut be stumped as to how they'd handle it unless they briefly somehow cover the Dragonballs and Goku's past at the start which would effectively eliminate a huge chunk of story and characterization that DBZ rests on, or eliminate the DragonBalls and wishes altogether, or just make up some shit that Saiyans come to earth searching for dragonballs and Goku discovers them there because his son Gohan wears one on his cap inherited by his adopted grandfather and Vegeta and Piccolo reveal the legend behind the balls. That said, if audiences can flock to watch 300, then DBZ can ride that wave of popularity and approach. Lots of yelling, guys with nice built abs, crazy kung fu and wirework and Matrix effects and of course overexaggeration with the kamehamehas and other chi powers is key. Basically I'm looking forward to thsi for the same reason I looked forward to Transformers... to see crazy amounts of action and kicking the shit out of one another while destroying the landscape... which brings about another conundrum... how to establish how these people have this kind of power... But they can do the Superman thing that Goku, the Saiyans and Piccollo are basically aliens and showcasing Goku's arrival on earth as being exactly that of superman's will immediatedly click with audiences... sure it's the same thing but who gives a shit...?

First how do you deal with Goku without supposition we know about Goku's heart from Dragon Ball but to introduce him IN Dragon Ball Z along with all the other Z fighters will leave all the newbs confused.
