I'm tired of people giving it a pass and ignoring some pretty glaring script and dialogue issues. That said...I'll be picking my set up in early morning tomorrow. Here's hoping that all the problems I had with it originally are washed away and I can truly become a fan. But this show has a long way to go.

What does "Jessica was apparently not always Niki’s dead sister" mean? Does it mean she was once ALIVE?! How can she be dead if she wasn't alive first? And the show isn't THAT good. It's more about the hype than anything. If you put out enough money into the marketing, you can make anything a hit. Just like Desperate Housewives.

While I don't know for certain, I'd strongly suspect that the cagey language used to describe the exclusive stuff on the Target Edition means its DOWNLOADABLE MATERIAL. Gee, last time I checked, 'Heroes' was a fairly popular show, right? Target couldn't even spring for disk replication? Cheap bastards. (Although, maybe some people prefer DL to an extra bonus disk rattling around - discuss?)
Extra cost = extra disc?
by toshiro-solo
Aug 27th, 2007
12:27:32 PM
I would wonder about downloadable vs. on disc content too, but - it seems like the extra cost would indicate extra physical media. To be sure, though, the advert doesn't make it clear. Each outlet has their own free goodies (I think Best Buy has a comic book), but this edition actually costs extra $$. I can't find anything anywhere, though, to make it clear. Cost for the "normal" edition is pretty standard everywhere - $37 or $38 - but only Target has this edition, which runs $45.

...i kinda agree with. I LOVE Heroes, although...i cant seem to understand why its the massive media hype that hasnt seemed to die down yet. I also cant seem to understand why everyone in the media stopped talking about Lost as soon as heroes caught on. The only thought i can seem to grasp is, Heroes is less confusing, and less cryptic for the more nimble mind? I dont consider myself a genius, but Lost isnt that hard to follow, and definitely better. None the less...heroes is great, but i tend to agree with some of you guys, not the most amazing show on tv.

"Heroes" just flat-out did not live up to the hype. Not just because of the lackluster finale, but because the scripts were consistently of a "Knot's Landing/Melrose Place" prime-time soap quality and the sets/costuming reeked of studio penny-pinching. Plus, for a show in which spandex was anathema, don't you find it just a little strange that there was so much gratuitous gore? Did we need to see the cheerleader wake up with her chest splayed open for any particular reason? Scenes like that - other examples of which escape me at the moment - were completely unnecessary in this "comic book" re-imagining of the superhero myths.

according to another fansite the target edition features an exclusive slipcase with Tim Sale art, 4 postcard reproductions of "Isaac's" paintings (i.e. more Tim Sale art) and an additional disc which likely features the Paley Festival panel/Q&A. I'm torn. I've got a Best Buy gift card, but REALLY love the way the Target packaging looks. Since those two stores are right next to each other, I'll probably head out there tomorrow and hold them both in my hands.

The "finale" if one can call it that was a ham-fisted load of crap, especially what should have been a spectacular show down with Sylar. Instead we got that lame final battle with him where each character got to walk on, use their special power against him and then walk off again. It all felt so artificial and staged. Hopefully they'll save some budget to do something really spectacular at the end of next season. Don't get me wrong, I pretty much got blown away that every week was even more incredible than the last, but that finale was just so flat.

Just thought I'd throw out what I've learned. The Target Exclusive Special Edition is an 8-Disc set, which means it DOES come with an extra disc. The content of this extra disc is apparently a Q&A from some TV and Radio panel or another. So, 8 extra dollars, extra slipcase over the normal cover, extra disc, and the Sale "paintings." Not bad; I'll be a Target shopper tomorrow.

You've got a point; I am officially tired of gimmicky crap with DVD releases (and truthfully, I could do without the "paintings" that come with this); I don't need a fucking Spartan helmet with my copy of 300 thank you very much. That said, I WILL pay a few extra bucks for actual extra CONTENT in my DVD sets; that doesn't bother me. And keep in mind that buying the special edition now isn't a double dip from a previously released regular version; it's streeting on THE SAME DAY as the regular version; it just costs $8 more. I very much doubt that the "Brooklyn Bridge" double dip will be worth a later purchase, but since it's either the regular or the special edition now, I'll pick up the special edition.

I like Hero's don't get me wrong I'm planning on buying the DVD set tomorrow, but I take offense to the above statement that Hero's is comic book friendly

now pursued_by_bear you bring up some good points about differnet writers handeling things differenlty in comic books then we like and also that it is a freshman show, however LOST was a freshman show that was an amazing freshman season and a...strange 2nd season, I'm not saying LOST's 2nd season was bad, but it was just...off.

however if Heros was to really be comic book friendly, Wizard interviews blah blah blah isn't the way to go, the way to go would be for Kring to admit that he does liberally borrow from comic books and comic book storylines because all true comic book geeks know where he is getting this stuff at.

Jakes Nel
by INWOsuxRED

From a character standpoint, it is Nathan redeeming himself and proving he is a hero. Since he is Peter's brother, he probably didn't want Peter shot, especially since he finally came to the realization that Peter is the good one. The show creaters have said that Peter can only do one power at a time, or at least it has been shown he doesn't have total control over himself. All of that doesn't mean Nathan blew himself up. He could have thrown Peter, or dropped him and then gotten out of there, which seems to be likely.
Thanks, INWOsuxRED

perhaps offended was a strong word, and frankly I delt with this during the Kristen Bell announcement to death. I'm not talking about time travel which is pretty common in any kind of litureture, what I"m talking about is the char. with similar powers, similar plotlines (the ones that really have been nailed is Days of Future Past and Watchmen), that sort of thing.

and while Kring maybe isn't an AICN @sshole kind of comic geek, and while obviously his writers are, the writing staff isn't assoicated with this show, he is. he is the creator adn the exec. producer and when he goes around and basically takes credit for their work while not giving proper credit to where it is due

and that doesn't count Stan "Who Wants to be a Superhero" Lee in a cameo or naming the Plaza where it all goes down after Jack Kirby. Those are nice touches (espically the Kirby one) but only that.

pursued you are right Hero's was a show with a built in comic bok auidence, it's a show about superheros, but one not limited to just comic book fans, look how well Spiderman (1,2, & 3). X-Men (1, 2, & 3), even the Fantastic Four movies did at the book office. People who are not comic book fans like to see stuff like this, that much is obvious, but by saying he has never read a comic, Kring is almost, at least to me, saying that, he is beyond comic books, that they are for little kids. It's almost as if he is trying to distance himself from the medium that is most likely to embrace his show.

Actually if you watch that final scene again, it's relatively clear. When Nathan shows up, Peter looks at him in distress and says "I cant do anything!" literally meaning that all he can do at that very moment is not explode. Watching that scene a second time gave that line perfect clarity. The first time it kinda slips past ya innocuously.

03:25:43 AM
99% of season one was fantastic, edge of the seat stuff right up until the flat finale and lame showdown with Sylar and the tiny explosion, which was supposed to have wiped out a city. My biggest concern about season two is that they'll ruin/kill off/write out Sylar early to make way for the new big bad, which in my opinion would be a huge fucking mistake. Sylar was one of the big reasons season one was so cool. He's a fantastic villain with great powers AND an interesting, layered character. I understand they need to bring in new characters, but if they waste Sylar I'll be seriously pissed. Every ongoing superhero story has multiple villains, but Sylar should remain the arch enemy right up until the show ends.
