Chances are, we will never see Excelsior movies on Sci-Fi Channel, CBS, or anywhere else… :( So… Maybe its time to start making EXCELSIOR the way New Voyages has done it here. Instead of having the “New Voyages” actors playing young Kirk and Spock et all, have Cawley and Quinn and the gang play the new Excelsior crew (Cawley could be the helmsman, Quinn the Chief of Engineering, etc…) Get Chekov on there where he belongs… as the first officer. Add Tuvok and Rand (and Christian Slater if he is available) and you have one hell of a fan series! Having the New Voyages crew play new characters rather than the TOS crew would really allow the show to gel more with the Original movies. I really think this is the way to go. People want EXCELSIOR, and a combined effort by all these people to make it happen (with effects by “digital designer extraordinaire” Daren Dochterman) would be amazing!

I'm from a town that's right between Ticonderoga and Port Henry and had passing interactions with this Cawley guy years ago. When I was in high school he was supposed to handle getting new uniforms for our baseball team. Long story short he never got around to ordering them and we had to dress in the old rags that teams had been wearing since the days of Ruth and Gehrig. Douchebag. Then he bought the last remaining movie theater in the area and let it fall into disuse - a major sin for me - and then the thing burnt to the ground. I always figured he torched it for insurance money. Douchebag. It galls me to see he has the time and energy to make these stupid things.

It was about aliens watching earth television from afar. Turns out their favorite show gets cancelled and they arrive, 20 years or so after the fact, get the lead actor back in shape (I believe it as Darren McGavin), and film a fitting conclusion to the show. I wish aliens would do that in real life.

Its more sad for us when we are stuck with sub prime storytelling, and characters. Joss nailed every season and season finale on the head. I was watching Buffy and even Heroes ripped off Sylars character from a demon who steals other peoples powers. Joss is pretty damn writer and unlike most pulls NO PUNCHES. Nothing on TV today touches Buffy or Angel in thier primes. MAYBE the Wire.... dunno... nah, im gonna have to go with Buffy :)

by Sledge Hammer
Aug 23rd, 2007
09:55:48 PM
...it's not Star Trek at all, in any way shape or form, it's just a fucking fan film, and no matter what you think of these things - personally I think they've been pretty much crap, regardless of how much money has been spent, but some people enjoy them and that's fair enough - these things will never be seen as anything other than fan films, and nor should they be. These are a fun (to some) aside, an extension of the fanbase, but they are *not* Star Trek, and never will be, regardless of how many out of work former Trek actors or guest starts they shovel enough cash at and get to show up.
I hope Firefly never comes back
by Gorrister

I really, really LOVE Firefly. Ironically, that's the reason I hope it doesn't come back. The show was absolutely brilliant and near-perfect. Because of that, it could only go downhill from there. Just look at BSG for proof. The first season of the new BSG was awesome! After that, it seems that the writers either got lazy or over-confident and the show suffered for it. What it comes down to it this: Firefly lived fast, died young and left a good-looking corpse. BSG grew old, festered and is about to have the plug pulled on it's life-support.

I WANT it to come back, very badly, I think I would want Angel to come back just as much or Buffy even MORE, but those are totally lost causes. Even Joss thinks Firefly has a SLIM shot unlike the others, but then I think, this is a JOSS property. And I think he didnt really have time to really FUCK with all this characters. Inara, didnt get the Prostitue RAPE that was probably coming, and neithers did Jubal get a chance to get Kaylee like he promised. Im sure Jayne would have lost both testicles, and we already saw what happend to Shepherd and Wash. Mal probably would have lost a hand or something. So in THAT sense, im glad it never had a chance to suffer.... does that sound odd? For example, look at Wesley, Fred, Anya, Spike (Buffy Spike).

And these poor nerds plunked their own money to produce something much better that the SciFi Channel's Flash Boredom. I say fire Bonnie Hammer from the job and give the job to these guys. They produce stuff made by fans FOR THE FANS. Bonnie- take a hint--They've demonstrated you don't need big budget money, you don't need the on-scene product placement, the on-screen SciFi icon and you don't need inferior re-imagining to make something work--- you just need heart to make a fan favorite winning production. Good job to these poor Star Trek fan voluntary film crew- you gotta give them credit. You have my respect!!! And thanks so much George Takei for reprising your role- well done- you deserve it!!

04:11:36 AM
Are you kidding me? You dont recall the Episode Objects in Space? Where Jubal threatened to rape Kaylee if she tried to scream or escape? They didnt provide any closure on that in ANY way since Jubal didnt "die". And he slapped the SHIT out of Inara. I am merely making the point, that Joss has a tendancy to do tragedy, before triumph. Recall Angel's baby son stolen by someone he trusts, recall Buffy killing Angel to save the world. Recall Fred, not just dying but her soul being destroyed so she has no afterlife, recall Cordelia sleeping with Angels kid only months after changing his diapers. Recall Spikes mom trying to SHAG him as Spike would say. Shall I go on? All I am saying is Joss left it open for Jubal to return, and I FEARED he would take it out on Kaylee or even Inara. NO ONE who reads Joss or watches Joss could dispute this, HELL in Serenity THOSE LEFT BEHIND, the guy who was shot and left for dead SURVIVES and comes back for revenge? See what im saying? I am merely saying, Joss would have fucked these characters up, and I didnt want to see a single one suffer. I hope that makes sense.

Read what I originally typed, I didnt say i WANT so see this. I said I feared what Joss would do. Hell you give him Serenity, and he kills to MAIN characters. I was reading in the Firefly companion, that he said " EVENTUALLY, someone would die, and it should be sudden and unexpected" (WASH). Joss from what I have seen of him, likes to SHOCK the hell out of you, and has little to no regard for the "characters" since they dont exist, hell look at poor Anya cut IN HALF. See?

Bloody hell, that was a fantastic episode! Its a bit jarring at the beginning seeing all these actors try to be their Original counterparts but for the most part they do a good job (particularly the characters of Kirk, spock, Sulu and Chekov). Scotty is the worst - but he is not in much any way. But the best thing about this episode is the nostalgic feel and nuances of the original series topped off with a beautiful storyline. Takai is great and outshine everyone in the acting stakes but thats to be expected being the most "senior" and professional. So this is a fan movie? Well done. Bit obssessive but if they churn this kind of quality then hats off to them. I'm gonna upload the video which will take acouple of hours because this was a bitch to flippin download so I am sure others are having difficulty too.

I'm going the whole way and buying all 64 with the sharpener on the side of the box. Takei kicked ass. The episode with Chekov was not great, and the other eps have been just sort of, the top level of fanfilms...so not good. But - if you can let yourself get past the new people and their shitty acting, you will be in for a treat. Seeing what happens to Sulu, and the ending is very nice. I'm glad I watched it, and I'd watch it again.

SPFX but have the crapiest actors trying to play iconic characters. Sweet Lord, you know something's wrong when the guys playing young SULU & CHEKOV come off the best, besides Mr. Takei of course. Looked great - what little I saw of it...gotta get that fixed too guys!...but the acting was far from Shattacular! I think John Belushi was more convincing as Kirk than this guy! Dude, just choke down the pride & cast REAL ACTORS instead of your family & friends and ya just may have somethin' there...if ya notice, the scenes w/the real actors...Takei, Whitney, etc...were the best in the damn show! I give it a reluctant two pointy ears up anyway...mainly for the effort of all involved. Live long & prosper ya crazy nuts...now go on & get outta here...ahead warp factor 9!!!
"Kobayashi Maru" controversary...

I too thought Young Sulu mispronounced Kobayashi Maru, and I couldn't understand how such hardcore trekkies could make such an obvious mistake in their film. But reading that Young Sulu said it with the proper Japanese pronunciation makes sense. After all, he is Asian and he would pronounce it the way it was said in his homeland! Just because Kirk and other non-Asians in Wrath of Khan would pronounce Kobayashi Maru differently doesn't make their Anglo pronounciation correct.

Now the REAL question... was it worth all of the misunderstandings just to have an Asian actor pronounce it correctly? Realism is nice, but not at the expense of taking you out of the story. A professional film maker wouldn't have made that distracting choice.

This surprised me because...

I watched this really expecting it to suck very, very badly. Watched another episode of this and I couldn't even stand it. This episode has a GREAT story, though. The effects are good as well. Good story and good effects is what made this watchable. Sets looked good, ships, everything. The bad part was the casting. Of course Takei was great as Sulu. The younger Sulu and the Chekov were good. Uhura was fine. Spock scared the CRAP out of me. Most of the casting was just bad. It was a great story though and thats what made it watchable. Saying any episode of this show is watchable is a huge thing from me! I really enjoyed it a lot!

Way to play to the Comic Book Guy stereotype, you whining fucktards. Half of you are determined to hate it because you didn't do it first, close to half just enjoy tearing things down, and then there's the one guy who fucking whines about baseball uniforms??? And then the ones who decry it because it's not assembled by corporate shills? This is exactly what Aint It Cool should be covering, COOL things that geeks do to show their love for the genre. The Sulu episode was terrific. The acting from some characters isn't the greatest, but the enthusiasm, love and care put into these things puts some real eps (esp. in season 3) of the original to shame. Takei was great, the actress playing his daughter was phenomenal, the script was terrific (last year's Chekov ep fell down in that regard, sadly, despite DC Fontana... Chekov was too incidental to the plot of his own episode. that wasn't the case here) and the special effects were amazing. Great work, everyone involved.

A lot of you probably would hate it too. You remind me of the girl near me that says she watches lots of movies but can't name a damn one that came out anywhere other than Hollywood in the last decade. Such a sad state of affairs.

I heartily disagree with you all about the acting. It’s true that it ain’t exactly Emmy award caliber, but neither was the original series. And at least these guys are watchable - have any of you seen the other fan films out there? They are actively painful — it’s like chewing tinfoil just to be in the same room. I’d sooner see Elvis himself drag his rotting corpse out of the ground and play Kirk than some fat, acne-cratered fanboy stuffed in a uniform like a velour schnitzel. And I give these guys major props just for stepping up next to Takei. I’d love to see one of you prime examples of permanently-arrested adolescence try to do the same. Bottom line: Any of you wankers think you can do better, or even anywhere close, grab a camera. What, no takers? Then shut the fuck up.

Fuck the haters .If you don't like the idea of some fanfilms why dont you just fuck off and keep your whinging fucking commments to yourself. I for one applaud anyone who spends their time and money to create something in line of Trek. What if they mimic Kirk and the gang .Big fucking deal. Those guys our heroes and there is now way any good actor besides them would measure up anyways.
