excellent interview

and I'm going to TRY not to get into a hero's argument this time around, I enjoy the show and I think Sylar is actually an interesting char. layered and interesting and I think alot of that has to do with Quinto's performance. ...reading this I just had an idea... the villain in the Star Trek reboot turns out to be Shadowy Time Guy from that dropped storyline from Enterprise about the Temporal Cold War. They never did reaveal just who the hell that was, right? My guess: he turns out to be older Spock from the future in "Ozymandias" mode! (Interferring in different past eras, "doing what must be done", manipulating events to ensure a better future, etc.) Just a wild-ass guess on my part, of course.

That fight really did fucking suck, didn't it? In fact the whole finale did. The most stupid part was when Nikki ribs that lampost out the ground and joins in with the Peter/Sylar fight even tho she doesn't know who either of them are or why they're fighting. Such sloppy writing. Actually, the worst was the way Hiro dispatched Sylar, who just stood there for 3 seconds, allowing himself to get stabbed whereas in previous episodes the guy was quick as lightening. I blame Tim Kring cos he clearly pulled a Luca$ and wanted to write the final episode all himself. Shoulda got Jeff Loeb to do it.

The Kristen Bell/Heroes TB had Chilli ripping everyone that didn't like the fight scene a new one, so let's keep it on the down-low, OK? Because shows about people with superpowers shouldn't have big fight scenes, just quiet introspective moments.

Guys, is it really so hard to get that Sylar has a death wish? He practically orders Hiro to kill him in 'The Hard Part', not to mention scrawls 'forgive me' on his wall earlier in the season. And as for the finale fight, it could have been more impressive, I'll admit that, but given the choice between a more impressive fight which doesn't mean much in way of characters, or focusing on the characters, I'll take the latter. There's plenty of time for fights down the roads.

Worst villain ever? How about Unicron, from the Transformers movie - a sacred cow on this board if there ever was one. You know, that giant robot voiced by Orson Wells... underwater... while eating a pastrami sandwich... and choking to death on it.

Sylar has motivation, a real character, and actual plot and dialogue. You empathize with him even as you want him dead. I know that actual character development's a bit novel for all you Simpsons Comic Book Fan wannabes, but try it some time.

Given that Lost and Office are popular, top-rated shows, chances are they are prime candidates to be re-re-re-re-released. I'm pretty sure that hasn't happened with Lost, but dunno if same is true for Office.

Ultimately, I'm only interesting in picking up the Heroes collector edition for the extras, having already archived season 1 in 720p glory off broadcast. You know... I just don't want to buy the whole damn set again only for the additional extras later on. Using other series releases as a gauge would better equip me to make a decision.

Yeah, kinda like the big battle in the finale between the two most powerful characters on the show - the two characters with a dozen powers between them. You know, the fight where they... punched each other with their fists.
This show has a big strike against it - it needs to step its game up in season 2, or I walk.

As the oldest person on this TB, I take the gavel. And pronounce the "Heroes sucks" crowd irrelevant. I won't debate the finale or Sylar or the whole of Season 1. I have an opinion on all, but I'll keep them to myself. What I will say is that IN THE CONTEXT of 50+ years of watching, reading, and enjoying science fiction, etc., "Heroes" is actually pretty darn good. I mean, I used to pay 25 cents to sit through "Purple Monster" serials at the cinema on Saturday mornings. Bugs Bunny cartoons were in first run! Superman was the TV series with George Reeves, and Star Trek, Lost In Space, and the original BSG were years or decades away. Science fiction was "trash" or "pulp" and held in about the same regard as porn. Comic books were 10 cents. I was pissed off when Jack Kirby went to DC and the price went up to a whopping 12 cents! When's the last time ANY of you bought ANYTHING worht having that cost 12 pennies?...ahh, the sound of crickets...thought so. Hell, I thrilled to still be ALIVE and see Heroes in HD. Consider your young asses fortunate that SciFI wasn't outlawed by now. And shut the hell up about "bad" Heroes was/is. You have no clue how lucky you are.

04:20:30 PM
But I was incredibly disappointed by Heroes. I was looking forward to the show and watched the first episode and when it ended I knew I'd never watch another episode. I was hoping for a show that wanted to HAVE FUN with its premise (imagine the scenes of Bob Parr at work in The Incredibles, but magnified for a complete series), but it was so pretentious. The show (to me at least) took itself far too seriously, which is a shame, because a show about ordinary people discovering they have super powers could be a lot of fun. Same thing with Smallville. There you have a premise that could've spawned one of the most fun shows imaginable and turned it into The OC with super powers. *Sigh* Oh well. If you enjoy Heroes, I envy you. I just couldn't get into it. About Star Trek, though, what are they going to do about Spock's hair/eyebrows? Sure, that shit flew in the 60's, but today? Most people would laugh at that look. But then again, what can you do for Spock? Maybe shave his head or keep his hair really short. But that weird semi-bowl cut? That'll have to go, I'm afraid.

If you want further fuel for the fire, I can tell you that all four in a row have yahoo addresses (similarly set up, too) and looking at all four's history with talkbacks, they constantly all say the same things, the same arguments, the same pissed off statements, in the same talkbacks, mostly in Coax. So, it's either a group of friends writing at the same time or one really lonely person with nothing better to do.

Sure, I didn't press him for details that I knew he wasn't going to give anyway. I think it's something that he said they're working now and are on episode 5 or 6, so we know Sylar's in it at least up to that point. I had a few Trek questions, including how involved he is in testing Kirks, but as you saw in the interview he turned it right back around to the Season 1 DVD set. With these properties it is possible to make someone slip up, but it's unlikely and you look like an asshole trying to make them do it. You might not like my approach, but that's how I do it and how I have been doing it for 10 years.

It's funny, I've noticed a trend. The Coaxial regulars seem to be the ones that really, constantly want spoilers, to know big things early, and view every time you could have gotten them a nugget as a wasted opportunity. Whenever I do an interview related at all to TV that's when I get these talkbacks, but hardly ever for my film stuff. It is comfortable for me to interview in a very casual, conversational way, so that's how I'm going to do it.

Thanks to those who left the kind words and thanks to everybody for reading it in the first place. It's appreciated.

as a real Heroes fan (indifferent to Star Trek)...I do not EVER want spoilers to Heroes. a few times where they have come out, we have ALL regretted finding out too much. the phrase, "damn you Wonka" that you might see from time to time, got its start when I found a nugget of a spoiler online, and gave the link to chrth, prof ikamono, ororo and others.

people in coax who beg for spoilers are so steeped the fragrance of nerd that they have lost site of the true meaning of nerding out over shows, movies, etc: it's to squeeze every ounce of joy out of the experience of watching something. and how can you do that if you know everything that's going to happen?

The Trek questions you asked gave him enough room to say EVERYTHING that needed to be said about his involvement in the new film. It was perfect. So perfect that it may have changed my deep seeded hate for the project, which may cause me to have to retract my promise to never see. .... fucker. lol Also, your interviews have feeling, and I think you're getting even better at that. For those of us looking for more than a quick spoiler factoid, they actually provide a mood, some feeling, and usually some good pacing (this one felt right for sure, and it was obvious when he steared it back to Heroes - but he did you right with his answers to the ST questions). Paramount needs to make less expensive, better written, character driven ST films. With JJ involved I'm not sure that's exactly what we'll get, but only in regards to the budget. As long as everyone involed shows as much respect for the previous 40 years of Trek cannon and fandom as he did, I might be able to put my support behind this.

Sylar being stabbed will be brought up in season 2 for sure. I think he gave himself up(just my opinion). Also this is for any show really some idiots have been saying "Watched the season finale blah blah blah and I gagged, that's enough for me". Why the fuck did you watch the last episode of an entire season of a show?
