It's been about 5 days since I saw it and you know what I keep laughing at? The teaser trailer for Harold and Kumar 2. I am not a simpleton, either- I like Paul Thomas Anderson movies, Wes Anderson movies, etc. with the best of them. Superbad simply wasn't funny.
I hope it's the same cast as Superbad and Knocked Up.

It's just a winning formula and so far it's not getting old it's just getting funnier. Superbad is a homerun of comedic proportions.

It's still there on Route 110 in Farmingdale and hasn't changed a bit since the 80's. This place is barely a step above the kind of "amusement parks" that roll into town and set up in church parking lots for the weekend. Only Adventureland never packed up and left. It was a great place to hang out when you were a teenager. Tons of slutty Long Island chicks and lots of IROC-Z driving assholes hitting on them. Oh, and drugs. You could always find drugs there.

Great 90s indie flick. Pretty hilarious. One of Lieb Scrieber's first parts, and has Parker Posey, Hope Davis, Campbell Scott, and Staley Tucci. It's a shame it took him 10 years to make another feature, but glad to see he's back.

Oh yeah I laughed.. there were some funny parts. As I have said in each of the 80 superbad talkbacks, though, I didn't think the "period pants" thing was funny. That was just downright jack nasty. And some of the things were just stupid- like the girl who says "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours", to which Seth replies "my back is connected to my cock". Who the hell talks like that? Do you REALLY think a fat, socially awkward kid talking to a pretty girl would say something like that? Sorry, but just because the word "cock" is in a sentence, that doesn't automatically make me laugh.
and one more time..

the funniest parts, to me, involved Michael Cera aka George Michael. And he acted EXACTLY like he did in Arrested Development. So how much of that can I attribute to the writer/director/producer? Probably not much.

i live right around the area and also used to go there all the time. i can still smell the fumes from the water bumper cars if i close my eyes. This happens from time to time. A fun but average movie like Superbad rides the hype wave into comedic lore. We heard the same thing with American Pie. Superbad could have been a classic. Jonah Hill and Michael Cera were really really good, and their adventures contain some classic lines. But the Reno 911 Cops schtick (you listening, Seth Rogan?) completely ruined the tone of the film. Seth Ruin (I mean Rogan) is talented, but his comedy is not nearly as distinct as his speaking voice. I really wanted to love this film. Nice but ultimately lazy filmmaking to be sure.

You guys can rent "Sweet Liberty" (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt00 92035/). They filmed there on the old coasters that was there in the late 80's. Alan Alda starred and directed in it. Michael Caine, Michelle Pfieffer and Bob Hoskins were in it too.

I used to work at Newsday in Melville, right near Adventureland, and I live South of Farmingdale in Seaford. As somebody else said, back in the 80's, the area around Adventureland along with some of the cheeseball nightclubs further West on Hempstead Turnpike were big destinations for high-school kids that cruised around in their Iroc's and beat up Pontiac Grand Prixs with T-tops. Laughing out loud now, thinking of those days. Hope Mottola makes a good movie; if anything it'll be a huge nostalgia kick, but I read he's mostly shooting this flick in Pittsburgh.

City by the Sea was based on a story that took place in Long Beach in the '70's, but the movie was shot completely in Jersey. I remember the mini controversy a bunch of years back: local LB residents were upset that the flick portrayed their town as bombed out junkie haven, akin to the South Bronx. They had a point; have you ever been to Long Beach during the Summer? It's a funky, but good laid back town. Solidly middle-class, lots of single people in their twenties living there, and gets overrun with Manhattanites when it's hot out, looking to get away for the weekend but couldn't make it out to the Hamptons or Fire Island.

August 23, 2007 - Thursday SUPERBAD(ASS) SUPERBAD IS THE FUNNIEST MOVIE I’VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME!!!!!!!!! Current mood: FUCKIN A RIGHTEOUS HOLY SHIT MAN (exclamation point) superbad is an instant classic. better than 40 year old virgin, better than anchorman, better than dodgeball and possibly better than my all time coveted comedy..supertroopers. it has wit like jay and silent bob its crude as fuck (american pie the x rated version) (BIG POINTS FOR THAT)..and im not so sure animal house itself wouldnt even be just a wee bit jealous (MCLOVIN is the most original party guy character since..the dude..or spicoli as sean penn..or lisa..you know..kelly fucking bend me over crazy with love lebrock..if..i..was..talking about wild child guys as if they were a girl for example..who..anyway moving on..sean penn as spicoli...)its got taboo in all the right on the border of do i laugh or is this sick humor like borat(think the part with borat kneeling beside the naked guy in the polaroid. it happens so fast youre like what the fuck.. and it literally took me 5 seconds to even catch my breathe from the depths of the humor that just comes out of nowhere again and again and...man..seth rogen you just bought yourself a big fucking seat to the winners circle..bravo man...its like waiting but more intelligent and it doesnt bear down upon itself like some could be perfect but fall just short because they fall on themselves types of movies (sounds a bit like this review..)i dont know too many of the rest of your crew (although i have seen knocked up several times and i do enjoy arrested development immensely..WHO THE FUCK CANCELS A SHOW LIKE THAT I MEAN HONESTLY ?..) but big fucking props to all of you. hands down the funniest most original shit ive seen in a very long time...although knocked up was some really cool shit ..this one just grabbed my balls in a different way man..maybe because i can relate a little better to this one (Eric Cartman epiphany solo monologue to get himself out of trouble on yet ANOTHER occasion: somehow i avoided a knocked up type of life) but i almost didnt make it out with a bang and then it all hit me at once just like the humor in this film man...this thing was such a cathartic rush. i fucking love stoner movies..i fucking love crude humor but i fucking love it even more when the movie not only holds together but the credits tie the whole fucking thing together..i busted a nut!!!! this film just entered the comedy hall of fame with just one viewing and supertroopers is the only other film to hit me like that on the first cut..i watch a fucking TON of movies..well maybe not as many as tarentino or harry knowles or..anyway..i watch a lot of movies in general but comedies..oh man..lets see..kevin smith (the obvious) to the obscure (rushmore) to the classics (real genius) (yes i said real genius..its a Goddamn classic and you know it is..finally give that bitch some a what she deserves comedy central..air that shit uncut so kent can fuckin get caught jerkin it!)i love dry humor like sideways..i love subtle humor like high fidelity..i love old school beatdown humor like the jerk...THIS FUCKING MOVIE HAD ALL OF THEM. AND THAT FUCKER HAD THE FEEL GOOD HIGH TIMES ENDING (that sadly killed harold and kumar..well that and the last half hour was totally douche..no disrespect to harold and kumar it just got a bit much at the end..although the doog was a nice surprise) did i mention there should be a sequel( well no..actually thatd kill the badass superbadness) sorry guys im a purist and there are only a handful of movies that truly deserve sequels..i dunno they just sort of fall apart after a few years..its like you take a picture while something is fresh in your mind for the first time and then you waive it like a polaroid you pulled too fast no matter how great it was only the steadiest of magicians can do that one right( or really crazy horror and i dunno about you all but im really rootin for the new halloween) but please please please i beg of you...make more of it...go out into the world and spawn like freaks with a dildo made out of ducttape i dont fucking care..just go man..make as many of these fucking films together.. and with the other funniest fuckers out there..Jesus..somebody get Saget and Carell together in a Wachowski triangle with Apatow and Spike Jones..SUPERBAD WITH JUST ONE MOVIE YOUVE JOINED THE RANKS OF SOME OF THE ALL TIME GREATS AND PUT ABOUT 50 NEW PEOPLE ON THE MAP. Christopher Mintz-Plasse is gonna be huge. Seth Rogen if you weren't in the frat pack before you certainly are now. Big props to your whole crew.

mottola here. just came across this talkbalk. well, as much as i wanted this movie to be a tribute to my misspent youth, i cannot shoot on long island and have decided to change the locale of the movie to pittsburgh. Alas, this is a character comedy/drama, not an all-out superbad-style comedy -- meaning, i have very little money to make this movie. As that I can make my budget go much further in pittsburgh and that i went to carnegie-mellon u. (i was a bad art student), i felt that i shouldn't try to fake "L.I." there and utilize what is interesting and visual about pittsburgh. Also, for legal reasons, I can't use the name 'adventureland' anyway. So whatever this movie is called, i expect it will disappoint superbad fans, not win over superbad haters and be appreciated by the 7 or 8 people who saw daytrippers.
