So the movie is based on Ben Mezrich's bestseler "Bringing Down the House," about the true story of a group of M.I.T. students who learned the art of card counting and took Vegas for millions. In real life, they were a group of Asian guys... in Hollywood-life, none of them are Asian guys (except for the two apparently included for comic relief.)

I never played poker and I never understood the rules much anyway! Why would anyone really wanna watch people playing cards? Even NBC wants a supposed piece of the action: Poker After Dark? Who wants to see people playing poker late at night all week? :(

He didn't ruin Glengarry GlenRoss with what he said and the movie came out in 1992 and is one of the best movies ever made so if you haven't seen it yet, and I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but you might be the dickhead!

Learn how to fucking spell. The occasional spelling/grammar mistake is forgivable, but this review was absolutely unreadable. Those who say spelling doesn't matter are those who will never get a job as a writer. The atrocious mangling of verbage in this review pulls the reader out of it with its constant distractions. This is the promise of the internet - every idiot gets their two cents. I miss the days before the internet - porn was harder to obtain, nobody had 7000 MySpace friends, and reviewers used spellcheck.

HAHA.. no. The MIT Blackjack Team was created and financed by a couple of professors who got students to implement it. The students did jack and shit to 'construct the plot' other than follow the rules of the team to the letter.

Spacey and Bosworth

what is that, 3 movies now? Anywho for some strange reason I too thought Brian Bosworth for a split second. Very scary. I agree with Johnny about Spacey's "too cool for school" attitude. I like to think of it as smugness. I think the Oscars went to his head but maybe he was always like that. But even with the gold he doesn't have the resume to go with his attitude.

As far as this movie is concerned it sounds okay but there have been too many gambling/casino movies for me to be interested.
Screw the asians, the "safe" ethnic group
by grunyen13

It figures hollywood would screw this up. Why is it hollywood has to take any successfull comic, TV show, book, or property that people love for what it is, and completely screw it into something that is not the reason people originally liked it? This book had all the characters (i.e. real people) as Asians, either southeast asian or middle-eastern asian. It's actually a significant part of understanding the story in several regards, it's not just an incidental detail. But since asians have become everyones safe ethnicity to stick on their marketing pictures, and they're so meek and quiet, I guess no one will complain. F you right in the ear hollywood. These white liberals that tell us all how to live have no morals. The white actors should have turned down these roles if they had any 'sack.

One of them wouldn't happen to be fellow Aussie Leonardo Nam, by any chance? Reprising his role, in a way, from Chris Evans vehicle "The Perfect Score" from a few years back? He was kinda funny in that, except when he turned out to be a genius who just rather smoked lots of pot instead of, you know, "applying himself"...

The Tracy and Hepburn of our age! I especially enjoy BEYOND THE SEA, when they play lovers. Creepy. I hope after kissing him she began recommending him for the villian role in all her films. I look forward to him as an evil Poseidon in BLUE CRUSH 2.

Also, Spacey has GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, THE REF, SWIMMING WITH SHARKS, SE7EN, THE USUAL SUSPECTS, LA CONFIDENTIAL, MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL, A BUG'S LIFE, THE NEGOTIATOR, and AMERICAN BEAUTY. He's more than got the resume to act however the fuck he wants, even if he's in a major slump.

You're right. I forgot about his amazing work in that. Come on. No one has the resume to match his ego. I've seen all of those films and The Usual Suspects is one of my all-time favorite movies. So I do know that he can act, but is he as wonderful as he thinks he is? NO.

Care to name one? I can't think of any white liberals that tell me how to live, but then I'm in the hospital dying of cancer and can't have medical pot, my gay partner is not allowed to visit me in the hospital, and there are no stem cell therapies ready because the Republican president keeps blocking it, so what do I know.

....or blackjack for that matter. if you wanna gamble, and wanna increase your odds of winning, play a real mans game: craps. but whatever you do don't "wrong way bet", because betting with the house is for bitches. play the pass line, go for a "yo" (11) on the come out role, then if you hit a point back up your bet. work the hardways. play the field. then.....you know what, i gotta go to the casino, nevermind.

They filmed this at Boston University - not MIT, and I know that because I kept walking by their special little celebrity porter potties which were parked in the middle of campus for quite a while. Never actually caught them filming though, and believe me, I tried. Amazing since everyone else I know just HAPPENED to stumble upon them.

Dear Planty Plant, You R Lame

#1 - Be wary of any review where the reviewer tries to act like the average person, or even comes out and says they are in any way shape or form. #2 - Reviews where they reference other movies usually means they are a plant. Espcially if they do it just because actors/actresses/directors were in other films. Pretty much guaranteed when you see more than one or two additional movie names in there. #3 - Reviews when #1, #2, or both are involved... And the reviewer has nothing bad to say about the film. They usually like saying criticisms that aren't really criticisms at all. Like "My main gripe for this movie is that the lead actress wasn't hot enough. Don't get me wrong she was hot, smoking hot, especially in scene X! But she could have been hotter!" something like that is a bit of a tell. Good luck plants
