Just recently watched Freaks and Geeks (gotta love multi-region DVD players), and was genuinely stunned by how good James Franco was in that series. Seth Rogen's impressing at the minute and I love action comedy so cannot wait for this. I'm thinking Up In Smoke crossed with Midnight Run, and it sounds like it's matching up to that.

This is fantastic..

I don't know why, but Rogen/Franco sound like on hell of a team. I never watched Freaks and Geeks, but I've always thought the Franco had some hidden comedic talent. I'm sure this will be amazing.

Talledega Nights was a pile of shit. Not one moment of comedy in it. A perfect example of a film created around Ferrell doing his 'schtick'. Rubbish.

I've seen an Apatow comedy yet...haven't seen 40 year virgin, haven't seen Knocked Up, haven't seen Freaks and Geeks...somehow I feel...imcomplete
If I was Apatow I'd try to forget Talladega...

I'll give you 4 for 4. Apatow is the only word a comedy needs these days for me to check it out with high expectations. But Talladega Nights? Check imdb, he's only listed as a producer...no writing credit. I think Apatow's name was probably added to help build hype and sales for the film, kind of like "Quentin Tarantino presents yet another asian film he didn't help to make but brought here for our enjoyment". Honestly, any of the jokes from Talladega should tell you Apatow didn't write them...in fact, I believe that's why Ricky Bobby smelled like one of Ron Burgundy's sloopy turds (or at least like Bigfoot's dick). As for Pineapple Express, I can't wait for this to hit. Rogen is comic gold and Franco needs something to wipe our memories of Spidey 3's "Harry Osbourne as a retard" performance. But still a year off from release? Well that just sux big fat donkey dong!

It would be either "5 for 6" or "4 for 6" Just Sayin' But Kaiser, Apatow didn't write this one either. Talladega, Super Bad, and Pineapple Express are all movie he's Produced. He doesn't have a hand in writing them, but he's involved with the film making process as a producer, and from what I hear he's pretty hands on. Also Apatow's been behind some pretty big movies, and some pretty disappointing ones. Just to name a few he's worked on (mostly as a writer, or doing rewrites) Fun with Dick & Jane, Cable Guy, Liar Liar, Kicking & Screaming, Celtic Pride, and Heavyweights.

Seriously... enough of them. They ran their course. Let's move the fuck on from these fuckers on to someone who can edit and who can tell a fucking joke without 10 hours of exposition.
No doubt Talladega was the weakest of them...

but it was still far better than most of the other "comedies" that come out. It definitely wasn't as strong as Anchorman, but it get's a lot of repeat viewings for me cause of John C. Rielly and Sacha Baron Cohen. The McKay movies kind of have a weird place for me in the Apatow gang because they're completely absurdist and Apatow's strength is in being grounded. Knocked Up and Superbad are definitely the most "apatowesque" (the pinnacle being Freaks and Geeks in my consideration)but i love that he works w/ directors who have different a sense of range.

10 hours of exposition? really? I think you're using wrong word choice there buddy cause "exposition" doesn't make any sense. We're talking about Apatow movies right? What is your consideration of good comedy anyway?

Seriously; that's your best retort? Poor word choice? Uh no... expostion could be used in this context via SET-UP. The jokes in the Apatow movies (and now Rogen movies) have ridiculously long set-ups. Also; I did not state that I hated their films. They have talent. However, at some point, everyone is going to be worn out by them. SO I'd rather them fuck off now and not have to deal with the inevitable 08 backlash, that leads to them being close to has-beens in 09. Yes... they will be rich has-beens whoring in the Hollywood hills. So... no tears for them. Now that's some good EXPOSITION!

Um, it wasn't really meant as a retort. I just really didn't understand the "exposition" comment cause I've only heard exposition in terms of plot. And so using that word in terms of "set-up" for jokes just kind of struck me weird since it's mostly guys throwing one liners and references around. Any crap, it also sounds like you're spending too much time looking at the steps down the line to declared them all has-beens in '09. Yeah, people will get tired of their style when it doesn't seem "new" anymore. That happens with everything. It's called popular interest. If your argument is with the inevitable fact that people move from new thing to new thing then I don't get why you're hating on the apatow gang. (plus by employing the various directors I think there's enough stylistic variation among them).

I didn't think it held a candle to Superbad.. I can't believe both movies were written by the same guys. The action scenes were great and everything but it just wasn't nearly as funny as Superbad. A lot of parts meant to be funny just fell flat. The dialogue in Superbad had a joke a second it seemed and this was not the case with Pineapple Express. I loved it how Red just couldn't die though.

It wasn't meant to be a non-stop comedy ala Super Bad. It was an action comedy, and as it was it worked out great. Was there a joke a minute? No. Did it need a joke a minute? No. The movie has it's flaws, but it really works, and after they hear the feedback and work on the movie it will be damn near perfect.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a much better written action comedy that had a joke a minute. A few of the dialogue heavy scenes just felt like they didn't do much for the movie and I hope they either get redone or shortened a hell of a lot so that they get to the point. I saw both Knocked Up and Superbad very early as well and they were much better at those stages. Hell, I loved them both and still have never seen the finished versions.
