I wonder if his first solo outing as a director will make him want to take more charge of Sin City 2?

Easily the most overlooked film of 2006, hopefully it'll get more respect and a larger audience as time goes on. It's arguably the best spy movie ever made.

It's fantastic that the Spirit is coming to the screen - and I agree that I can't think of it as anything other than period. Although, who knows? The only thing is, as much as I like Miller, I wonder if his pyrotechnics and style would translate Eisner's seminal work. Completely ready to give it a shot, but would the appeal of a fidelity-focused adaptation extend to the general public? I'm thinking more Sky Captain than 300, but I wouldn't want an updated and sexified Spirit either. Let's see.

I'm definitely psyched for this movie. It's a shame Darwyn Cooke is leaving DC's monthly Spirit comic. Hopefully they'll get Frank Miller to at least write an issue or two around the time of the movie's release (and get Jordi Bernet to draw it!!!)

Ron Livingstone, Aaron Eckhart, AND Gabriel Macht would all work really well as Denny. I'm personally for Eckhart, but Macht looks like he'll do a good job. I can't wait for this movie.

... was always Jeff Daniels, circa "Purple Rose of Cairo". He had that perfect confident, yet potentially hapless, uber-WASP thing, and looked great in a 40's suit. Since his time for that role is past. This fella looks decent, and I trust Miller. As long as he has no socks, I'll be happy!

I mean, his alter ego was dead. He had no discernable family. So why hide his identity? Does being thought dead give someone more powers?

and those few relegate the title character to the background while it tells some "life in the city" story involving an ordinary schmuck who gets caught up in some petty crime. Finally the Spirit shows up at the end to nab the schmuck. Not exactly Batman, here. Perhaps the guy is more proactive in other stories I haven't read.

Miller won't have the right tone to begin with... then the studio is going to insist on changes to appeal to "the kids who go to the movies"... and, frankly, though it pains me to say it, the current movie-going public isn't going to give a shit about some guy in a suit and a mask anyway. Even if it was the best fucking Spirit movie that could possibly be made (don't hold your breath)... no one is going to want to see it. And please, GAWD, don't try and do it with that fake comic book-y Sin City/300 extreme-CGI look. Stop trying to make movies look like videogames!

First, Miller is basing his screenplay on a specific Eisner story, so I'm wondering how dumb you think he is that he'd miss the tone. Plus, there is no studio involved -- the producers have obtained independent financing for the picture. Lion's Gate is distributing, but they have no say-so in the movie. So, I think your doom and gloom crap is just that. Crap.
I'd be surprised if this film turns out good...

...Frank Miller, as much as he loves Eisner, is the wrong director for this job. We're not going to see Eisner's Spirit, were going to Miller's. While that might be interesting in it's own right it's also going to be a bit like seeing Beatty's Dick Tracy.
