I see on the New Beverly site the movies are showing twice on the 12th - 3:15 pm and 7 pm. Any idea which one Edgar Wright will be at? I'm guessing the 7 pm.

Just moved to LA, and it's an ok store, but not the best I've ever been to by a long shot. Anyone else have other recommendations for an LA comic store?
Golden Apple is the worst comic shop in L.A.

Corporate retail at it's worst. The people there don't care about comics or customers. House of Secrets in Burbank is the best comic shop in the area I've found-- they do pulls and offer a substantial % off for regular customers. Golden Apple does neither. Nor will they hang out and talk comics with customers because to them comics are a business and they're snootily not interested in them besides as a way to make money. If you have to go to a comics shop in Hollywood because Burbank is too much of a drive for you, I'd recommend Meltdown.

Most of the good ones from my younger days are now defunct, but I practically grew up at Hi-De-Ho in Santa Monica. Bug store with lots of stuff, and only a couple of blocks away from the 3rd Street Promenade and my favorite toy/action figure store: Puzzle Zoo.

Good people work there. Paul, the owner is very cool. Good selection of comics old and new. Good prices. Hi-De-Ho used to be good back-in-the-day, but they've gotten way overpriced on their back issues. Also, if you find something in their bargain bin, you might find something good, but sometimes its usually missing a story or the comic is thrashed and they don't even tell you about it. They'll take it back if you complain and you can trade for it, but they'll put the same comic back out there for the next schmoe to buy. Plus, some people that work there aren't very friendly. I guess things changed when the boss ended up living with one of the employees doing the nasty! Never, never, never spit where you eat! Still, I have fond memories of that place when it was still fun. Meltdown is good. They have a nice selection. Secret Stash is okay for new stuff, but only new stuff. The city won't let them sell old comics. All their retail must be new according to some bullshit law in Westwood! What bastards! Kevin Smith must savor the irony. Never been impressed with Road Apple Comics. Was in there once fifteen years ago and that was the one and only time. Don't need the attitude or the overpriced comics. Never went back.

Disappointing. If Edgar Wright hadn't worn his love for H'Wood action movies on his sleeve, I maybe, maybe could see it. But he totally owns his shit. He puts his influences in the movie and still, I think, manages to find fresh ground in the action movie genre. Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are fucking hilarious together, have been since 'Spaced'. Shit, I'll take them over Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan in any Brett Hack-ner movie any day. Also, watch it again and really pay attention to the detail in the writing. Maybe I'm just that finicky, but it so so satisfying to see every little set up, paid off later. Aaron A Aaronson as the name of the kid in the model village? C'Mon, that's good shit! To all the haters, :p Jog on! p.s. George Takei will own your ass. Nothing on that front has changed.
Better shops...

Best shops in the LA that I go to on a regular basis are Earth 2 in Sherman Oaks (which just one an Eisner Award for best comic retailer) and Comics Ink in Culver City. Lots of friendly and knowledgeable staff at both and Ink has been know to leave 4 or 5 back issues of a current run on the shelf before boarding and marking them up. You won't get that at Hi De Ho or Golden Apple.

hey guys! Just wanted to ask for as many of you as possible to show up for Edgar! I am in charge on the Virgin end of the event and would love to see as many fans as possible! Edgar seems a bit nervous that folks may not show up! He is a GREAT guy and loves his fans.

DON'T! i tried twice to watch this. couldn't get past the first half hour. if you can't get a chuckle out of me in the first half hour, ur in BAD SHAPE because i'm easily amused. as far as i'm concerned this can go in the bin with Eli Roth's masterworks.

The "Hollywood" aspect of the town only makes up a small percentage of the total population. Most of us in LA are regular working people. The city itself is like a loose collective of smaller cities and suburbs. Hell going down to Orange County (away from the rich beach areas) reminds me alot of the midwest where areas used to be rural, but became residential. I do have to agree about the traffic, but any large city will have that problem. The most telling part of your complaint about LA is that the Golden Apple is a highlight. You obviously have not seen the real LA. You've only seen Melrose and Hollywood, the 2 worst places in the city. Even the natives hate those phony money grubbing fucks. There's alot to like about the city if you are willing to go away from the tourisy bullshit. That being said, sounds like fun. Hot Fuzz may not be as good as Shaun of the Dead, but it is still sooo much better than the crap we are being fed now.
