Fantastic to see Karen Allen is involved. This is the first bit of news on this movie that makes me think it might be worthwhile. Shia is like the anti-Allen: he's a likeable kid, but is he on a mission to fuck up established franchises (hopelessly miscast as Chas in CONSTANTINE - haven't seen TRANSFORMERSKABOOOOM! - hopelessly miscast in INDY IV????)

Nothing beats seeing that smile, though. Marion is BACK - and she has more balls than any man in this series!!!

The Ark must be in this movie. IndyCollector is right, the only numbers that differ from the box with the ark in raiders is 5 & 7, so that must be a typing error, or (not likely) the error has been deliberately made to confuse the fans, to keep us guessing...

I'm amazed at how few leaks there are from this set. It shows how seriously everybody involved is taking this. Even if the movie doesn't live up to expectations (and how can it?) they are working hard, not relying on CGI, and seem to be having fun. It's in contrast to the "soulless" reports that were coming back from Episode I.

They played clips from Good Luck Chuck and 3:10 to Yuma. For Good Luck Chuck they trotted out Jessica Alba and Dane Cook, and the director. After they were through, I noticed a lot of people streaming out. For 3:10 Peter Fonda and Ben Foster appeared. The clips for both flicks look interesting. Director and Cook both say Alba shows some serious comedic chops. Overall, the star appearances were not especially enlightening.

Third group out was for some Clive Barker horror thing, Meat Train something or other. Clip had great train in a tunnel cinematography, but otherwise didn't grab me. After some cast members and Clive Barker were introduced and Barker started talking, I couldn't stick around. Something about Barker bugged.

Regarding Karen Allen's still being "hot"
by ConanBaltar
Jul 27th, 2007
02:28:50 AM
That's such a fuzzy AND far away picture that it's hard to tell whether or not she it still "hot". She COULD be like one of those Monet paintings where the closer you get to it, the more it breaks apart. I submit to you that she probably still is good looking, but in a more post-botox, post-facelift, early-fifties sorta way. Either way, she is still a MILF....though perhaps she has graduated to GILF.

The issue of the actors' ages and appearances
by tylermo
Jul 27th, 2007
10:25:29 AM
Most people have complimented Harrison and Karen on the their time-worn appearances, but I'm still amazed at those who want to nitpick Harrison Ford's gut, or Karen Allen on the special features of the IJ dvd box. Hell, I bought the IJ set and the classic Battlestar set the day they were released, and yes, Allen looked older. ANd, judging from some screen captures of the set footage, she looks better now. But for Christ sakes, the woman is 55 or 56. As for the dvd interviews, I salute her for not having stretched her face like Mary Tyler Moore and Dolly Parton. As for her looking better, it's probably makeup, or whatever. Don't really care. Seems like(from other stories) that she's a class act, and I'm excited to see her return. Probably just going to be some talk about Indy getting back in the saddle, or our kid blah, blah, blah. I would rather see her in some action sequences, but I doubt it. Here's hoping she and Harrison can deliver a little of the old Raiders magic. Let's face it, it's hard to recreate iconic films, songs, tv programs, etc. Original SW vs. Prequels, Elton John 1970's vs. the Lion King music are two good examples. As for tying in the ark too much, I'd rather they not do it. If they pull off, they're shit on a stick. If not, they're just shit, and have tainted the great ROTLA. ANyway, I'm pumped, and will be the first in line for the midnight show!

I don't know about you fanboys out there but I gotta tell you, I'm a little dissapointed in the new Drew Struzan artwork for the posters. The large, silhouetted, worm's eye view of Indy is a just a tad bit conventional and not in keeping with the painterly style of his other examples. There is the painterly collage of previous indy images but the poster as a whole, just smacks of laziness and is largely unimaginative. The most promising example is the one where Indy is on the horse, but it doesn't make any logical sense with a younger, more buffed star. What's wrong with depicting an older Harrison Ford?

...I've nothing against Harrison having a gut - cranky old bastard's 65, of COURSE he's allowed a gut. I just don't think anyone should be making an Indiana Jones movie at this point. Hybrid16, you said "I'd much rather see an older Indy than Ford pretending to be a younger Indy and looking stupid", but the latter is exactly what you're gonna get. Harrison Ford's gonna be pretending to be about 15 years older than he was in Raiders Of The Lost Ark, when he's actually 26 years older. Shia LaBeouf should be playing his GRANDson, for crying out loud.

So yeah, he's not going to be in the best of shape. I'm sure that will be the point of the movie. And I'm sure he will get his ass kicked in the film a lot because of it. He's not a fat bastard by any means, and look at Connery in his later years. He was still able to more or less pull it off. No, if the tone and look is still there, and Harrison's heart is in it, then we'll have another good Indy film.

Abom, those are indeed handcuffs. She likes it rougher as she's gotten older. Dirty little minx!

so if that's fat, I guess I'm fat. But he looked okay in that flick. No, he was never 'ripped,' but what college professor is? Jesus Christ, he's just a GUY, like John McClane. His occupation doesn't call for him to be ripped, nor do his extracurricular activities as an adventurer and "obtainer of fine antiquities" necessarily mean he'll be buff as a result. The only people who should be allowed to tease harrison about having a gut are people who are skinnier than he is. Or better yet, skinnier and over 50. Cut the guy some slack. For his pants.

. . . airing of the Spielberg message from the set. He, Ford, Winston . . .

You can't help but feel the positive vibe from the message; you could almost guess Spielberg was gonna say something like "this one's for the fans" something along those lines, 'specially being that this'll probably be the last Indy for Ford. Seems like they're having LOADS of fun in these prelim' filming stages. Ford and Spielberg look a little grey, admittedly. To me, the decision for Spielberg's making this fourth one is, "oh, OK, so, uh, heh, 2 and 3 wasn't to your liking? Ah, I see. You . . . you honestly think I've lost the magic, eh? Oh, heh, see, who put d'is t'ing togeder? Huh? Me, tha's who; who do I trust? ME!" This movie's gonna kick major. At the end of the segment, Speilberg brings out a director's chair with, I believe I saw "Marion Ravenwood" emblazoned on the front of the chair's back support. And none other than Karen Allen comes out to join the crew -- doesn't look like she's aged a day from "Raiders."

And, heck, in old age? I'm looking FORWARD to the damn spaghetti arms and leg and fat belly. Church, damnit!

Harrison Ford looks amazing for a man his age! Besides, Indy always was the rumpled everyman who get's into (and out of) extraordinary situations using his intellect and sheer determination. Old characters from the series reappearing... exotic Hawaii locations, pictures of South American pyramids, rumours about aliens. It looks more and more certain that this movie is inspired by the last couple of really weird Tintin adventures. Which is a good thing, that's basically like returning to the orginal source of Indiana Jones. I loved those books as a kid, and if Spielberg and Peter Jackson are making a Tintin movie trilogy afterwards, then it'll be like getting four Tintin movies in a row.

Is it in any way surprising that thousands of male geeks' got crazy over the appearance of the hero's most interesting FEMALE companion? Now just think of what's going on in our female cells when we see Harrison Ford in motion. Uh...Speaking of gender BS....don't Ray and Shia make a wonderful team giggling in the background? Their constant chatting and chuckling in the background is so sweet.

Not that y'all give a rats ass about my dreams, but after seeing the pics of Karen Allen with the gang last night, I was guite excited. ...anyway, in my dream last night, I dreamt that I was at that panel, but the stars were there in person. Spielberg and Ford were there and everyone was in huge anticipation of some new info. As Spielberg said there was another character... out comes Kate Capshaw dressed in full "Anything Goes" sequined red dress and full musical number. The crowd started booing, and Spielberg says... "I'm Just Kidding", and out comes Karen Allen and everyone cheers... I woke up and was laughing to myself for about half an hour before I could go back to sleep. Would have been so cool if thay had done that.

We get it. You're old but you're not irrelevant dammit!!! Yes, 60 year old men can remain sex symbols!!! (barf) I swear, the culture is in decline or something. Endless nostalgic obsessions with former successes instead of dreams of a better tomorrow. It's frustrating. Do we REALLY need a sequel to Raiders ~25 years after the original? Can we just move on please? Write another story for Christ's sake.

That said, Karen Allen looks nice. It would almost be worth it if they were going to reboot the series with Indy and Marion's son (not played by Shia LeBouf), and have the two of them remain out of the action for the most part. But as is, I am skeptically optimistic. It can't be any worse than the Prequels...

For those who are worried that Spielberg is making this more for the fans than himself, I personally think this is GOOD. War Of The Worlds was one of his own personal ambitions and look how lame it turned out (bar a couple of effects sequences). He's making this for the fans. Last Crusade was made in the same way, I'm sure. If it even comes close to Last Crusade quality I will be pleased.

this is looking pretty damn exciting. There's just the right mix of awe for what they've done before, a splash of the new, and heartfelt affection not only for the characters, but between the heavies(no pun intended, I swear) who are finally bringing Indy back to life. This is still very, very early, but I don't think it could be progressing any better than this. What more can you possibly ask for? I think that what was missing on the prequels was this kind of camaraderie and mutual respect. Everyone felt they were in a toy commercial and they were partially right. If you saw Lucas's AFI thing, even when Ford, Fisher, and Hamill were onstage together again after 20 odd years, you could still see that little bit of chemistry or love between the actors. It just goes to show that all the money, CGI, and script rewrites in the world can't replace good casting and good chemistry between actors. Even though I'm not as fond of the LOTR trilogy as I once was, I get just about the same feeling watching this as I did watching their behind-the-scene stuff. Hopefully it continues to be this good... damn, this takes me back to seeing the Last Crusade teaser... and then finally seeing it, getting out of school that Wednesday and my mom taking me straight on over to the theater for a 4pm showing. Shit, I can even remember my dad taking me to see Temple of Doom on a rainy day at the age of 7 and getting a cool movie program. How time flies...

02:19:32 AM
You know, who cares if she had any so-called work done or if she just naturally looks glowing because she's been away from the Hollywood grind for an extended period and is simply all the better rested and aged for it? I don't care, I'm just happy she's back. She looks fantastic in the Quicktime clip and in the official still, so like all other geeks I'm ecstatic to see her back since it instantly makes this new film "feel" right -- far more so than any other addition could have added to the film's appeal.

As a result, seeing her back and suited up -- much like seeing Ford the same way -- goes straight to the heart strings of every movie fan, and I think that's the real reason you're seeing so much love being poured out for her. It just feels great to see them together again, to see them looking good together despite the years apart, and it just makes all hopes rise even more that maybe...just maybe...they'll get this thing right.

Well, I think that's why there's so much love being show. Unless I'm mistaken about a whole shitload of you and you really DO have a private MILF fetish that you've been hiding!

By the way, in reading this Talkback, I noticed how more than a few fessed up to having had a teenage hormonal surge when first seeing RAIDERS and Marion in her white gown. In wanting to check out something about Karen Allen, I went to IMDB and discovered something.

If you go to her Photo Gallery and to Picture 8, you'll find a verrrrrrry nice shot of her in the RAIDERS gown. I can't recall seeing it before, but I'm sure it will inspire many here to relive their teenage warmth in the theater.

Best of all, you can now look at her in the privacy of your own home, which means you also don't have to shift that large bucket of popcorn over your lap to hide anything awkward...ahem!

But it's even getting worse. That new video on the official site is amazing. David Koepp sitting in his freaking chair...rewriting stuff. The video, especially the appearance of Karen Allen, was like a huge shot of nostalgia, I'd just woken up and it was almost overwhelming. It's rare to feel like a kid again, even momentarily. I hope the film is a worthy addition, and I don't see why not, Spielberg is still a great director when he's working with the right material. He's probably the most technically proficiant director in the world, Munich was awesome, he just needs the right script. See the much maligned War of the Worlds for example, stunning first half, then falls apart due to a weak story. Anyway, Indy 4 and John Rambo next year, fuck yeah!

Seriously he does a bit in these warped and blurry pics but he always looks kind of fat in his films. Take 6 Days Seven Nights, when he had his t shirt on, he looked a bit bloated but when he was topless, he was lean and had a sixpack, he always looks a little 'thick' but its pure muscle.
