although the monster / disaster near a tourist attraction has been done to death already. Honestly, if you want to survive a STAY AWAY from well-known landmarks! The reminds me of the opening scene of Team America, where the entire city of Paris was reduced to its touristy highlights. Eccleston´s Doctor Who also made a funny remark along those lines - commenting on a space ship crash into the Big Ben with: "Well, I thought that was a bit dramatic".

So it would seem that for now they are indeed going with MONSTROUS. Then again, the Con will tell more and maybe that is just a working marketing tag line. Monstrous really sounds like a faux trailer from Grindhouse 2. They should have stuck with no title, that would've been really cool (but also highly impractical, like when Prince disposed of his name and became an unpronounceable symbol). There just seems to be no surprise left in big filmmaking anymore--you can see all the big films coming from a mile away and know exactly what they're going to be like. The ambiguity of what the heck this project was opened the cork on the film fantasies that so many people have been carrying around--a movie that approached something familiar like Cthulu or Voltron in an entirely left-field way, full of grandeur and not pigeonholed from the start as just another niche film with merchandise-marketing at its core. It's the same kind of excitement that fluttered up when the Blair Witch Project was emerging--some loved it, others hated it, but it made us think about a filmgoing experience that really messed with our expectations and took us somewhere else. So whether Cloverfield is that or not, if Hollywood can find a way to tap into that untapped approach, the results will, after so many disappointed hopes, be magical.

Have you seen that really hot chick dancing in the trailer and the one who asks 'what's this for?'. Ok , the guy kinda looks like Jake Gayenhall when he first comes in the room and they all shout 'surprise'. But we can forgive him for that, cos after all 'he is the main dude'. I don't know or care what Voltron is, for all I know it could be a new car from Honda, I just love the mystique surrounding this film. Too often , trailers, featurettes and press blurb ruin movies to the point that you've virtually worked out out or been told the plot of a movie before you go the cinema. Personally I think they've 'shot their bolt' a bit too soon with movie and in a few weeks the fuss will have died down and by the time January 2008 actually comes round they are going to have to regain everyone's interest once more. This 'campaign' should of started some time in October or mid November. Get everyone talking over Christmas and shit. 1-18-08 but knowing our luck in the U.K they might as well rename the movie "1-18 - download it off the net or get it on dvd from the USA before it comes out here - 08." Not that I'm cynical of course ;)

For the people who don't know Voltron was a cartoon ( it wasn't anime to me) that played weekday afternoons in the 80's. It was about a a couple of guys and a princess who fought giant evil monsters, robots, and other various evils in the galaxy. They had these lion shaped robots that formed into one giant robo named Voltron. He was a kick ass who hd a huge sword and could beat down nearly anything in the galaxy. This was back before us kids knew what anime was (speaking for me and my friends who were all of abouy 8-10 years old) and the toys for Voltron were just fucking excellent. Use Wikipedia and you'll see. As far as the other subjects, over reacting, 9-11 jokes,and bashing (ball busting in some cases)gays,christians,jews,and republicans, i've got nothing for it. Everyone's idea of funny is different andwhen someone tells them "hey thats not cool or funny" then of course they are going to get pissed and push the envelope even further. Thats the great thing about the internet,you can get on here and say JJ Abrams sucks or one of your fellow talkbackers is an idiot,pat yourself on the back,signoff and not have to worry about getting your ass beat. Entertainment Weekly has an officially released image of the poster, sans title and copyright information. It's not cropped, it's just absent from the image. It appears in their August issue and on their website. It's the same image as the Monstrous poster, which at this point we can pretty much say was a leak.
