the humor, tone and music all fit andersons style, which i couldnt be happier about. while i am a huge fan of the hilarious life aquatic, it is nice to see that maybe anderson has toned down the quirkiness a tad with this one, get back to more of a tenembaums drama/comedy blend.

first, this movie kind of flew under the radar because we were all thinking that Wes Anderson was going to do that "Fantastic Mr. Fox", so I am esctatic that it is coming out in just a few months. Secondly, I disliked the life aquatic, I only saw it once. Third, I think that movie "Charlie Bartlett" is a ripoff of Rushmore.

well...I like THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS a lot. But somehow the story and characters of LIFE AQUATIC weren't that accessible to me, which showed me that Anderson's good filmmaking actually consists of more than just stunning visuals. However, this trailer doesn't do much for me. Really. I mean, there are some great images in it and I'm actually looking forward to the film but...somehow my worries about the story aren't eased by this little montage...maybe I have to watch it again...

I think this will be a great adventure movie as I am guessing a lot of it takes place during the train ride but, and I know this is sooo trivial, it feels like the same thing as LA because the posters look too much alike with the yellow and blue. kepp the font but just make it orange instead of blue to give it a more India-like quality...(I realize how trite that sounds but it is just what comes to mind).

and since both of my parents are indian, this trailer definately brings back some major memories. However, sometimes white literature like that of EM Forester, and Rudyard Kipling, can make india look too quirky, without really giving any social depth to the countries problems, or even giving the characters any real complexity, kind of like the "magic nigger" phenomena. Whatever, it looks funny, Just remember INDIA ISNT A RIDE FOR YOU WESTERNERS TO GO SMOKE DOPE AND ESCAPE SOCIETY. THE PROBLEMS OF THE WORLD MEET YOU FACE TO FACE, DON'T IGNORE THEM.

Like his films or not, enjoy them or not, I can't think of many directs that have such a distinct style. Within frames of his images, people are concious that it's a wes anderson film. His films grow on people. I didn't care for The Life Aquatic until watching it several times and listening to the commentary several times. Of course there is the argument that a film shouldn't require multiple viewings in order to stack up - but his talent is undeniable. and his ear for music outstanding. anyone have $2500 they can lend me for tix to opening night New York Film Fest? If not, i'll be there on opening night in wide release.

India is a land of extremes. And I really don't mind Spielberg or Wes Anderson making a big cartoon of the place, but there has to be some balance. There are serious fucking problems there, it is really disturbing. I guess that is why Deepa Mehta and Mira Nair make such serious films, it takes one to know one.

He puts more good stuff in one frame of his movies than most directors do in their entire career. "Dry"? Perhaps. anderson may be skilled - and i still think he's got one trick up his sleeve, note he has never tried (or bothered?) to make any film that deviates in tone or storytelling method from all his other films, including the excellent 'bottle rocket' - but he IS NOT BETTER AT DIRECTING THAN MARTIN SCORSESE. i gotta stand up to you on that one, jimmy. he's certainly better than a lot of people out there clogging up film canisters with their dogshit, but he is not better than the man who directed 'taxi driver', 'raging bull' and 'goodfellas'.

I love use of the Kinks' "Lola/Powerman" tunes. Strangers and This Time Tomorrow are transporting. That being said, the same Broken Relationship Repair theme seems to be present here just like all other Anderson fair. Maybe I should watch Life Aquatic a few more times. I think the movie picks up HUGE after they get the bonds guy, before that, I feel it's kind of dull. Still say PT Anderson is the better of the two.

Just a fabulous movie. The scene with Dignan running through the warehouse. James Caan. Here's hoping Darjeeling gets a nice fat Criterion release. And remember, for good or for ill, without Wes Anderson, we wouldnt have Luke and Owen Wilson, and thus no Frat Pack or Shanghai movies or million others, Bill Murray - the actor, and a solid Gene Hackman role amongst all the paychecks he's cashed in the last twenty years of crap.

...but being there as a westerner, especially when you're young, is an extremely whimsical and rigorous experience. That is, after you get over the crushing filth and poverty of the cities. Still the funniest, most friendly people I've ever known, even when they're trying to fleece your white rube pockets. And there are plenty of temples that do allow photography.

He doesn't care about story or plot anymore. He just wants geometrical compositions and bright production design. Good soundtracks, sure, but that doesn't make up that nobody in his last couple films has even come close to resembling anything that could even pass for a human being. He should have been a music supervisor or a production designer instead of a director. People who think he's the greatest just don't know that much about film.

My mom remembers all the hippie jackasses who came to mumbai during the 60s and laid around the train stations, while everyone else was trying to make a RUPEE. i was born and raised in india and ive lived there 22 years. In mumbai to be exact. I know what the country is and I know why its so hard for people to pin down and how Indians have been stereotypically portrayed in western film and literature. But this trailer didn't seem to be Indiana Jones and the temple of doom to me. It seemed quirky and fun. If we can watch Peter Sellers "The party" and laugh at it, we can do that for this one too. I hope Shantaram is the movie that portrays Mumbai as the fascinating, crazy, dangerous, frustrating, beautiful, haunting, charming in an old world meets new world way...and i hope Mira Nair can do it. Till then, lets just watch movies like these with a little sense of humor shall we.

What I'm happy about is the use of the two Kinks songs that arent widely heard. Everyone who likes what they heard go pick up The Kinks - Powerman/Lola CD, its great. That made my day.

Come on, the "you don't know much about film" argument is so fucking tired. All that means is that YOU have a limited idea of what a film should be. What's wrong with a film that's more art than story? Tell that to Kubrick, who's famous for his long static shots, that resemble photographs or paintings more than anything. Anyway, I'm not a Kubrick snob (or a Wes Anderson one, for that matter) I just think a film can be enjoyed on a different level than just character interaction. (Though Wes Anderson always does pretty great in that department, too, I think.)

And mumbai is hardly what anyone is talking about....India is not simply a portrayl of mumbai, and I know that for sure. My dad is from Indore, and the culture is vastly different.

I thought RUSHMORE was brilliant. A revelation. when I first saw THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS in theaters, I enjoyed it, but I felt disappointed because he reused the "Label with White Text" technique that I thought was original and hilarious in RUSHMORE. I was annoyed. But since then the film has grown on me considerably. As much as I love the humor, what I really treasure is the emotion of the film. It works. I have watched the film almost two dozen times and I only love it more and more. With LIFE AQUATIC, I don't feel that much of the emotion works. The serious moments are much too stark compared to the lunacy of the rest of film. Anderson thrusts the serious sadness into your face, and it does not ring true. The comedy and action are great, Fantastic! But sadness that Anderson tries to wedge in there undercuts the film.

I love him, and I was really disapointed with Life aquatic it was my least favorite film hes made but the strange thing was I'd keep watching it, after the 5th time I told my friend that I kinda liked it and now after watching it more than any of his other films it may be tied for my favorite, Life Aquatic really does grow on you and the there are always new things to laugh at everytime you watch it. for people who have seen it once I think it really takes about 4 viewings to really get into it than after that it will soon become the best thing ever!

Really, there's so much detail packed into them all (except Bottle Rocket, which is probably his most immediately enjoyable film) that it takes a few go arounds to take it all in. The Life Aquatic in particular is one that is funnier and deeper each time you see it - whoever compared it to The Big Lebowski in that respect was spot on, I think. Anyway, I really love this guy. Very talented. Four films, four goals, as far as I'm concerned. Can't wait to see the new one.

I loved The Life Aquatic, but I get why so many people just couldn't connect with it. First off, there are the dipshits who don't get the effects (hey! those fish look fake!), but I think the rest of the Zissou haters just haven't reached a point in their lives yet that lets them identify with the character. It either clicks or doesn't, and if it doesn't click now, odds are it will in 10 years. Anyway, I'm dying to see this one, lack of a major role for Murray notwithstanding.
