Gee, are Red Arrow and Vixen gonna die? Oh, dearie me! Gimme a fuckin' break. Talk about melodrama! What a huge waste of Gene Ha. Meltzer was all like "C'mon guuuuuuys. Lemme do this fill-in issue like I do my books! It'll knock 'em dead." Except that it's cheesy. And it's boring. And so obvious a fill-in issue. Pap.

I said it last week. I'll say it this week. Marvel. Introduce Sam Wilson (Falcon) as "The New Captain America." Relaunch the book at #1. Have the Winter Soldier be his behind the scenes "spy-dekick." Keep Brubaker and Epting on this title for as long as they're willing to stay. Joe Q, put your money where your mouth is. Make Sam Wilson Captain America. I dare you. Stir shit up. Sell a million copies. It would be awesome, and EVERYONE knows it.

I've been preaching Sam Wilson as Cap for a long time on another comic board. He just makes the most sense to pick up the shield and carry on Steve Roger's legacy.

I also like the idea of winter Soldier as a black ops partner.

That's awesome, man. I've been saying it at my local comic store for a couple months or so... It's the best and most logical choice. And I don't want to refer to him as the Black Captain America. It's obvious and redundant. New Cantury. New Captain America. There's a million different ways Marvel can promote this. It'd make the cover of EVERY newspaper, news magazine, and news program. I think it'd be bigger and WAY more important than the Death of Superman. It would break down walls. "The New Captain America" issue 1 would become the single best selling comic book of ALL TIME. And with Brubaker and Epting on board, it'd be tasteful, classy, and kick all kinds of ass. Also, I said it last week: Sam Wilson is every bit as cookie-cutter of an American name as Steve Rogers. Do what's right, Marvel. Make Sam Wilson the New Captain America.

It's illogical because some editor told the writer "I need an excuse for the Hulk and the X-Men to fight! Now!" and the dude had to come up with SOMETHING.

Besides, the fight I REALLY want to see is Ultimate Hulk vs. Ultimate Wolverine. How many years has it been?

...since DC is finally giving this horrible title the "Old Yeller" treatment with #57. I'm just hoping Tempest gets his powers and hair color back before the end.

And I'm having a hard time getting pumped for Waid's third run on THE FLASH, knowing that he's only on four issues. Hopefully, this will lead to Geoff Johns returning in #235...

Skip Johns on Flash..

Blasphemy that it may be. But Johns was making the Rogues too grim'n'gritty, which itself was a bit of a blasphemy.

But look at the solicits: John "Blue Beetle" Rogers is being groomed to take the reins after Waid, and nothing could be better than that!

And speaking of Rogues, the Suicide Squad mini coming up looks like it's getting more and more interesting.. Anyone read Checkmate last week (the very last panel)? And as for All-Flash, what's this about Boomer Jr. taking down Weather Wizard and Heat Wave (along with the rest of the Suicide Squad)? Anyone read that Outsiders "Pay As You Go" arc? I missed the deets on how he switched sides..

The index of past DC fanfic issues may be found here: http://tinyurl.com/3x83p3

There's also a special teaser for.. *preemptive yawn for the length of this title* The Crossovers: Crossing Over, part 3 of 6: Questions and Answers.

http://tinyurl.com/2vu47g

You may now all consider your sorry be-hinds *KICKED!!!* Is it too much to ask for feedback to issue 2? It's personal. I'm starting to not care whether I hear anyting on it or not, as it is, it'll be too little too late. I'm forgetting I ever had dreams of something better and my soul's hardening and crumbling every day that goes by, I'm not making this up. Clearly no one thinks an effort that took a year and a great outpouring of love is worth shit-all, so why even try some of the bigger things I have in my head?

See you next week, maybe. *HULK-SMASHes out* (don't worry you won't hear from me for awhile)

Bloody Charades and WWH: X-MEN

I'm an idiot. I can't believe this didn't occur to my "continuity freak" mind until just now.

But how did Hulk KNOW that Xavier is a member of the Illuminati? Most folks on THIS planet don't know, and he's been OFF planet. I looked into it, and to my surprise, there was a throwaway line at the end of WWH:X-MEN 1. Hulk casually mentions that he beat the info out of Black Bolt.

So not only are we supposed to believe that BB gave up the info on the rest of the Illuminati (and how come there is no WWH:Submariner series? Because that would not deprive as many people of their money as an X-Men spin-off)...but since Black Bolt is the one character WHO CAN'T ACTUALLY TALK WITHOUT DESTROYING EVERYTHING, are we to believe that they engaged in a game of charades while being held, bloody, in the Hulk's grasp?

"Two..words...," a half dead Black Bolt manages to sign, then pretends to wipe something from his head.

"He's BALD?!?" the Hulk snarls. "Uhn..Absorbing Man! Radioactive Man! Uhn..."

"No, no..." Black Bolt signs with his non-broken arm, and motions for his writing pad.

"He's bald and he's a writer!?! Fricking BENDIS? I should have known..."
It would have been a fun conversation to see, Rock Me..

You would think that if Black Bolt had to keep things all pent up for so long that maybe he just blabbed and blabbed and blabbed in his battle with the Hulk since it was a good opportunity for him to unleash his power full on.

Hulk would be like "Who are the Illuminati?"

Bolt bellows out with thundering power: "It was Professor X, ok? And that bald bastard didn't even show up for the taping of the video. He was all, 'We are working for co-existence with the human race' and 'Poor poor Jean Grey how I empathize with her troubled soul and the way her costume clings to her netherparts' and "Waaa, the Quinjet doesn't have a handicap accessible ramp.' I tell you, for one of the most powerful minds in the world, Xavier sure does have a martyr-complex."

Then Black Bolt would go on: "And another thing, I'm sick and tired of finding ten foot hairs in my bathroom sink. Do you realize how hard it is to find a bottle of Liquid Plummer on the moon? If I told Medusa once, I told her a thousand times, comb that shit out in space where it can drift off in the galaxy. And be sure to keep clear of Lockjaw's doghouse when you're doing it. Last time Lockjaw coughed up a hairball that looked like something that dropped off of the Man-Thing and rolled around on a barber shop floor after Carrot Top came in."

And the battle raged on: "And another thing, Triton smells like the Jersey shoreline during Indian Summer..."
When good reviews can't make comics interesting

I thought the review of The Order was pretty well written, and very positive. Yet, that sounds like an extremely awful comic. In fact, none of this week's comics sound like anything I'd want to buy, except Super Villain Team Up, which I already bought (and was the bomb!). Kudos for the Siamese Human Knot pix!

YESS!! Probably my all-time favorite series (not the Giffen abomination) is returning! Hoo-Rah! And the last panel of Checkmate is promising. I also love Checkmate, probably the closest thing currently running to the classic Suicide Squad.

Based solely on Agents of Atlas, which was a lot of fun but a bit scattershot, I stll prefer Slott, who's funny and clever AND writes very tight plots. Still, the fact that guys like these are taking over the Marvel Universe is a very good sign.

And it's stealing Manhunter's art team of Pina and Riggs. I have a feeling we'll be seeing lots more collared Rogues too, so it's good they'll be getting face time and that'll make for some interesting interaction between them and the regular Squad members.

My spidey-sense tells me despite all the excess crap DC's putting out this year, following the villains in Checkmate, Suicide Squad, and JLA (and maybe the Trickster/Piper line in Countdown) might be worthwhile.
However...

You know, Homer, you do bring up a good point, and I think I might be biased. I REALLY likes STRIKEFORCE, and this comic reminds me of it, so there is a nostalgia factor that may have influenced me. But the fact is, Strikeforce was canceled, so clearly it didn't appeal to the masses. Its neat, though, that even though I personally liked it, someone could read the review and tell that THEY probably would not.

And it was just luck that I found the same picture George probably used for reference, but I WAS kinda proud of that. Thanks.

I have the complete run of the first volume and it was great. There have been so many knock offs since then, but the original runs of S.S. and Thunderbolts compete for the best villains as protagonists. I loved Ben's (Bronze Tiger's) progression through the original S.S.

It's not Skrulls...from all these "One More Day"/"Brand New Day" previews looks like they're restoring Spider-Man's secret identity with DOCTOR STRANGE MAGIC. Doing your best to fuck up the status quo and then immediately reversing it? That is just SHAMELESS.

But...with Dan Slott, Bob Gale, Marc Guggenheim, Zeb Wells, Steve McNiven, Phil Jiminez, Salvador Larroca and Chris Bachalo on the back to basics AMAZING SPIDER-MAN...eh, I'm weak.

Are we all avoiding the interent to read Harry Potter? But I have good news. I have a comic shop now. Very small. Big on special orders. But still. Thank you comic shop guy. Brand New Day should be retitled Spider-Man: Fuck Yeah. As for that Jimenz dude-I've only seen his art in New X-Men and Infinite Crisis. I say MJ will look like a transvestite, but not a weightlifter. Only Power-Girl looks like that.

Okay, deadest talkback EVER, let me just say that I didn't buy the thing, but i flipped through it, read various pages and said "Hmm. While it puts a smile on my face to see Batman kicking the crap out of children, all of this cosmic "bigger story" stuff really puts me off and basically keeps me from getting into the thing." Then the guy standing next to me said "What the crap? I'm trying to read Wolverine, creep!" We fought. It was awesome. I slapped his ass from here to Nantucket.
